I drove through there on Tuesday morning, around 7:30 am, on my motorbike. The water was insane, a torrent coming up through the pavement which looked completely blown apart. Nearly a foot of water in places for about a 100m stretch.

Hi there I couldn't find any info about bookings at the hotel on that link and I may need to book a few rooms for relatives around the beginning of September. Do you have another link? Thanks TheCat Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The 'Travelodge' located where the Dog used to be > is taking room bookings from late august.... > > https://www.innkeeperslodge.com/london-dulwich/ > > Not sure if that means the associated 'Harvester' > opens at the same time....

A very friendly black and white cat has decided to it wants to live in my house since this afternoon (Monday 6th). As lovely as she is, my other 2 are seriously unimpressed and she obviously belongs to someone. Earlier she was wearing a red collar with "Micro-chipped" written on it, when I returned home this evening the collar was missing on her but she is still hanging around outside my house and meowing plaintively. I called the neighbourhood vets this evening to report her and I will take her there first thing to get her chip scanned. I have decided to take her in tonight in case she is properly lost and so that she is safe. I am at the Tyrell Rd end of Hindmans Rd.

Anyone up to create a new East Dulwich Brewery?

If it's so easy and cheap then why don't you start your own microbrewery? You could clean up by flogging your own brand of hops and water to all us gullible mugs. numbers Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > But why would anyone buy beer from a local brewery > when it's much cheaper to make it at home etc > etc...? > > It's just water & hops FGS. Used the Nunhead guys last week for the first time. They did a brilliant job, helpful and friendly and you get offered tea and coffee too.

I would agree with everyone advising to get the wall built as a joint wall on the boundary. This gives you the option to build off it too, even if you don't want to straight away. Even if you don't want to at all, it's an option that a potential buyer might like as and when you come to sell. I would also be inclined to go for the joint surveyor. This helps keep lines of communication open and will speed up the process.

Petition for reasonable rents from Dulwich Estates
Willard replied to bumpy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I don't think the "charitable" Dulwich Estate has a right to hike up rents by 70%. I'll sign off by quoting Rayner: "The Dulwich Estate and its Chief Executive John Major (no, not that one) can point to Charity Commission rules which require them to get the best financial deals they can, and therefore argue that they are merely performing their legal duties by pricing out the toy shop. Except they?re not doing so consistently, because, for example, they?ve left the Half Moon Pub empty for over two years, when it could be earning them rents. They don?t even seem to be applying their own policies as laid out in their Scheme of Management drawn up in 1995. That requires them to behave in such a way as to have ?a positive impact on the community, is attractive to the public and thus stimulates local businesses?. There is nothing attractive or stimulating about their current behaviour. Indeed, the Charity Commission also requires trustees to consider ?reputational damage? caused by their trading policies. Right now they are doing themselves enormous reputational damage. So much so that there are many of us who question why a body like the Dulwich Estate, with property worth hundreds of millions, should be a charity at all, given the tax benefits that status brings." -

Over 85% of their revenue after costs goes to 3 very expensive fee paying schools. Dulwich College is ?38,000 a year for a boarder. -

Fantastic article by Jay Rayner: http://www.jayrayner.co.uk/news/dulwichcollege/ -
"What the police fail to realise is that this is often how psychopathic murderers begin" You honestly think the police don't know this? Even Martin Clunes knows this: "Research in psychology and criminology shows that people who commit acts of cruelty to animals don't stop there - many of them move on to their fellow humans. That is a scary thought indeed," Clunes added. Hope they catch this person soon.

I have to say I was disappointed by the food. It took ages to arrive and was cold when it did. If I hadn't been so hungry I would have returned it. I ordered the fish (cod) and chips which should be easy to get right but still a good benchmark. Instead of one nice large cod fillet it was 2 rather sorry small pieces. It was too much batter and not enough fish. Mrs Willard ordered the polenta gnocchi which she said was good. Perhaps mine was sat around waiting for her's to be finished. As for the "decent music"....if you think the Best of the Beatles on loop is decent then fair enough. Personally the strains of "Obladee - Obladaa" and "Octopus's Garden" blasting out far too loud (so everyone has to shout across their tables to hear each other) contributed to the indigestion of my average food. If this sounds a tad harsh, then it is because I was expecting better and also because I think there is a lot of potential there. The opening weekend of any new pub, restaurant is never easy and I will certainly give them another go in a few weeks. If they get it right then it will be a good addition to the local pub scene. -

looks great, will be checking it out soon ! -
Better still why don't you tweet a link to this page on the forum, mention @virginmedia with #crapservice (or something). I would do it but my service seems ok (for now). I will keep checking my speeds though. It dips from 40mbps in day to around 15mbps at night. I think it's awful people are paying for a service they're not getting.
-
I think this could be a luck of the draw thing as my Virgin service is good. I regularly get 50mbps down & 3 mbps up. (speedtest.net). The superhub is good too as it's both 5ghz and 2.4ghz. I bought a USB 5ghz wifi adapter for my laptop as it's 5 years old. The 2.4 ghz bandwidth can get clogged with your neighbours' competing routers. Also routers tend to default to certain channels so its worth looking at software like inssider which identifies all the routers you can pick up in your house and what channel they are on. You can then switch your router to an empty channel. Other factors like proximity to other electrical gear (especially cordless phones and microwaves) can affect it. I hope this isn't grandmothers and eggs.
