  1. Hi Having moved out of the ED/FH area to experience life further afield, we are deeply unhappy (am not liking my new job and husband's commute means that he hardly sese the kids), so we are seriously considering coming back to old territories to bring back some happiness in our lives. The problem is that we have a 4.5 y old who is due to start reception this September. He is currently in an independent pre-prep in Kent. Any experience of mid-year school intake in state/private schools? We have a house currently rented in FH so could move back there, bearing in mind that we moved out as we outgrew that house or would consider renting anywhere else nearby. My 'good' head tells me to wait for the following summer to come back and my 'selfish' head tells me that we have been in that new area for a year and we don't like it so another year could be long and coming back in January and start afresh in 2016 could be a possible challenge for the family. So if anyone has been in this situation and had to move, not really knowing where their child would end up in school, please share your thoughts/tips/concerns. Thanks in anticipation
  2. Hello I am wondering if anyone on the forum had a garden office installed recently and whether they could recommend a company or similarly advise against one. I have had quotes from the qube and Garden Spaces. Many thanks Oddiegirl3
  3. Thanks for all the contributions. Got the feeling I will end up leaving this completely outgrown tree where it is and keep enjoying a wet non-sunny garden (!) as I can't justify spending so much money on a tree now and don't have the skills to tackle it or as suggested to get some frogs to help with the project!
  4. Hi I thought I would ask the experts and there are always knowledgable people on the East Dulwich forum. I have an elm tree to get rid of at the back of our garden and I have just had the first of several quotes to come but one thing left me perplexed. The quote included ?300-400 to get rid of the wood once cut. It is elm wood which I checked and is a burning wood, not the best maybe but it can be used. So, I was wondering whether it would be worth asking if people were interested in cutting off the wood in smaller pieces that can be dried and then used as burning wood. That shall reduce my quote and surely would provide some free wood ( not labour free I suppose). We would do it as I hate the idea of paying to dispose it when someone else is going to sell it but we simply have nowhere to store it. I am French and in France this is the kind of initiate that exists, you get a tree surgeon to do the big job and then you enquire whether neighbours finish the job and take the wood away. Our friends there basically spend a couple of saturdays working on this but then get free wood for a whole season. Do you think that's something I should explore or is it a lost cause? If it could work, how should I proceed? Thanks in anticipation Oddiegirl3
  5. Hello Could anyone recommend a cleaner in Forest Hill to start asap? or if you have a good cleaner with some spare hours please get in touch and provide reference and rates by private message. It would be for a weekly 3-hour cleaning job, probably 2 hours cleaning and one hour ironing. Many thanks in advance A

  9. Hello I was wondering whether some of you on this forum have a child in this nursery. I have a place there for my son in September but a friend who also had a place there for a daughter was really not impressed on a recent visit (young staff sitting around in shade while babies were in sandpit, quality of food etc). I know they have just sacked their manager so maybe there are in need of some staff changes but I was wondering if any of you had a little one attending this nursery and therefore some feedback. Many thanks

  15. HI I have a question regarding sterilisers and bottles. I will soon start expressing and I have a Medela pump. I have been told the Tommee tippee bottles are very good and I was thinking of buying those. I also need to buy a steriliser and there is currently an offer on Avent ones on Boots.com but I don't understand how steriliser work, can you only use the bottles from the same brand as your steriliser or is there a steriliser that would sterilise all bottles. I heard people have to try several bottles to find one that their baby likes, I would hate to think you need to buy the same amount of sterilisers! Also, recommendations for bottles/sterilisers are most welcome Many thanks
