We got ours from Habitat- it's really comfy and hard wearing, on the expensive side full price but they've got a great showroom clearance of furniture currently on at the Kings Rd store and they regularly do 20-25% off promotions if you are happy to wait for one.
  2. Yes there was a H&I direct train daily up until a few months ago, oddly I think they may still run on weekends but not weekdays, I could be going mad but I'm sure I saw one on the departures board at Peckham Rye on the weekend?
  3. Completely agree JoeLeg, well said...
  4. The air con is the biggest issue for me, yesterday was so unbearably hot I left after 20 mins (and I'm an Australian who isn't afraid of hot weather), they used to have freestanding units but these seem to have disappeared...bring on the new management! However must say, I hope they keep the really nice, helpful blond guy on reception, he is one of the few who is genuinely helpful.
  5. Hi- I've read some really good reviews for a New Mexican restaurant on Rivington St in East London called 'Santo Remedio' may be worth having a look...

Really damn annoying that they all deliver to Camberwell but not Nunhead (even Burger Bear) 😡
  8. I often get frustrated with Louisa's 'blow in' comments too. However she definitely has a point on this one. I love food and wine but also like watching sport, playing pool and talking to other locals in a pub and I think we need a mix of all in the area rather than every pub appealing to the same demographic of people. The Prince Albert on Bellenden rd is a perfect example- great local pub to play some pool which has now transformed into a smaller version of the Victoria 5 doors down the rd. I do think some pubs have done a better job in attracting new customers but still having a place at the bar for locals- ie: in the Gowlett and the Montpelier, Old Nuns Head and the EDT,(though apart from the EDT these are all independents, which possibly says something) I often see the regular old boys propping up the bar in their regular spots (albeit possibly not on a busy Fri or Sat night) but more and more all the pubs are blending in to one. Just glad I live in Nunhead and can get a good mix of everything.
  9. Peckham Rye or Denmark Hill are only 10-12mins to Victoria. District line one stop to Sloane Square.
  10. Had it in Nunhead too...

  12. While we have plenty of pubs in the area, we are limited to good beer gardens, the Rye in Peckham being the only one of any note other than the Crown and Greyhound, which is currently closed. This is a huge opportunity and massive shame. Whilst they are doing a boutique hotel at the G & G they could still do a great pub and B&B on this site (similar to the Victoria on Bellenden) and do a roaring trade due to location on the South Circular and proximity to the schools. Oh if only I had the money!

Sorry 'centre forward' not 'centre half'!

Pretty much agree re: Liverpool, centre half and GK are priorities but also centre back to fill the gap (again) that Loveren has failed to fill. We just can't seem to get the back line sorted, Toure best option currently, that in itself is a worry!

Well done Stevie G, shining light in a slightly improved but still very average LFC performance tonight.

Love the sourdough, it's what just edges FrancaManca for me. Gowlett a close second then Il Mirto, been wanting to try Sodo for ages- need to give it a go soon to have a true comparison....any excuse for a posh cheese on toast ;-)
  17. While I agree that location and competition has a lot to do with the failure of the latest incarnation of the Mag/Magnolia site I think you only need to look at the Crooked Well in Camberwell as an example of somewhere where the guys who have taken over clearly had experience and vision, had done their homework and clearly weren't afraid of hard work. That site had failed so many times over the years and these guys moved in and got it right from the start and built up loyalty and business by great service and food and by tapping into what was missing in the local market. They've had great, well deserved success so it's not out of the question the Mag site could succeed one day. The cinema could also really help that site in the future for none brave enough to take it on...
  18. Yay, the lovely people at the Crooked Well won best pub in Camberwell.

Happenned so quick, won't really know until MOD tonight. Doesn't really matter now though, it's the points that count and there aren't many coming for Liverpool currently. Utter disbelief in the Kop though when he took of Coutinho and Can. Can looking tired but had a good game and Coutinho easily the best player on pitch for Liverpool at that point...baffling.

Alan Medic, I was at the game behind the goal and not sure if it was offside but did look like it came off Cahills hand before he kicked it in. ref not great but neither were Liverpool.
  21. Valencia or Seville. Weather, food, wine, not too big, not too small etc etc...need I say more...
  22. It's actually Skehans in Nunhead.
  23. People who think everyone wants to hear their extremely loud, hands free, phone conversation on the 19.39pm train from London Victoria when you've spent the last 11hours at work listening to other people having very loud phone conversations in your office.
  24. Louisa, I used to work for a well known Ladies High St. retailer and there is definitely a demand for Lordship Lane due to local demographic and catchment area. The issue is getting the right property at the right price in the right place. Unfortunately whether we like it or not Lordship Lane will become Northcote Rd mark 2 at some point.

Ha, I never learn, tripped up again by not sticking to the old triple check before sending rule.
