  1. What food do you do?

I am a Chartered Accountant with an Economics degree but bloody hell, the FT is boring as it gets. Poorly written articles, whose authors do not seem to understand that news needs to entertain as well as present facts in the most sterile manner possible.
  3. All the good looking men in East Dulwich are at home with their partners. ;-)
  4. As it happens, the Hide Bar on Bermondsey Street SE1 is doing a cocktail at the moment for ?4 called the Credit Crunch!
  5. To be honest I am not sure why anybody shops at that supermarket on LL. Overpriced, poor quality crap. If you want crap food go to Iceland. If you want nicer food go to Sainsbury's. Bring on the Co-op I say.
  6. Had my credit card cloned in April, wasn't sure whether this was the well known 24 hour shop or the well known supermarket. Suspected the 24 hour shop at the time and accordingly have not used replacement card since at said establishment. However, had a call from card provider today saying somebody had tried to withdraw ?200 in cash. Therefore by process of elimination it must be well known supermarket. I am going to the police station tomorrow.
  7. Have seen loads of these up for rent recently so I hope you bargained a good deal!
  8. Thank god. Hopefully Co-op's ethical dimension will improve the quality/price ratio at Somerfield LL. Forget the big ones (Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Waitrose etc) - Somerfield are the biggest rip-off supermarket I have ever come across. And one of their staff had the cheek to tell me that my Five Pound Sterling note was no longer in circulation. I knew she was wrong. It was only when I checked Wikipedia at home that I realised that the Five Pound note was last revised in 2002. 6 years is a very impressive lifetime for an expired note!
  9. What's wrong with Ocado? Waitrose food at Ocado is cheaper than Somerfield (and better quality - has anybody tried the bland Somerfield cheese)? E.g. one of my staples is Tropicana Orange 1.75l. ?3-something at Somerfield but ?2.57 at Ocado. If you are going to shop regularly at Somerfield you are better off going to Lidl. Same (or better) quality, but half the price.
  10. We have been to Si Mangia. Although the menu is quite simple, the dishes we had were perfectly acceptable for the price. Not too much food from a local Italian, which is a refreshing change.
  11. Last night there was no salad in either Somerfield or Budegens. I was reduced to Iceland crappy iceburg-lettuce/bit of carrot/bit of onion mixture. How depressing.
  12. London Bridge (More London on Tooley Street). Usually cycle in 20 to 25 minutes from SE22, if not 8.15 or 8.35 train. Wish there was an 8.25!

I agree. But like anything there is a price to this value. You might, say 15% extra per month to 'own' your home on an IO mortgage, but would you pay an extra 20%, 30% etc? Even then you will never own the home until you can stump up some extra cash to repay the capital.
  14. Yes that's right.

That is just my best guess. A good two bed flat in Se22 is currently let out at about ?1250pm asking price, or nearer ?1150 actual price. That is the same monthly cost as an interest only mortgage for ?230k at 6% (not readily available ATM). Why would anyone buy if it is significantly cheaper to rent (as it is at the moment)?

Not stupid know I need to be > flexible. Getting a bit disheartened with the > estate agents as I think they are so unused to > this market they don't seem to know whether they > are coming or going!. This sums up the London property market at the moment. Those who are already on the ladder can't quite understand why their property is not selling, but the reality is that first time buyers just simply can't afford/unwilling to pay the asking prices being demanded. You will find plenty of people who are looking to upsize who are ready to make serious offers, but until they get realistic with the price of their own property no chain can ever complete. A 2 bedroom garden flat on my road originally came onto the market at ?350k, and went SSTC. Obviously didn't complete as it is now back on the market at ?332k. I would imagine that the purchaser either couldn't get a mortgage, or couldn't sell their own smaller 1 bed flat. I estimate that prices in East Dulwich have to fall about 30%. At 3.5 times household income, you need to be on joint income of ?85k to afford a ?300k mortgage. Is it really sustainable that only couples of bankers, solicitors, accountants etc can afford a two bed flat in East Dulwich, which I remind everybody, however much we all like it, is 15 mins on a bus/train away from the nearest tube line? Add to that mortgage companies at the moment are insisting on at least 10% deposit - which first time buyers have ?30k in cash around?
  17. Makes a change from the: "WE HAVE LOTS AND LOTS OF CORPORATE TENANTS WHO ARE WILLING TO PAY LOADSAMONEY!!!!"
  18. It is definitely not a cash machine for me as I have never used my credit card (Egg Money) at a cash machine. Somerfields and Budgens are both possibilities!
  19. Rubbish is a key issue. I would also like to see a ticket machine on each platform. There have been times in the past few months when the actual ticket office has been closed on weekday mornings with no explanation, and the queue for the ticket machine has been horrendous. Surely these machines aren't that expensive?
  20. Completely overdeveloped and ridiculous.
  21. Had a similar thing with my Egg card being used in Morocco. Have used this in Budgens so who knows? I loved the way the girl at the call center said "don't worry, we have blocked your card so your money is safe now" IT IS YOUR MONEY NOT MINE!!
  22. I am currently working in New York for a number of weeks and have tried a number of burger places which typically get 'best in NYC' on the important websites (www.menupages.com etc). To be honest, GBK is up there with the best of what New York has to offer. I haven't tried DB Bistro Moderne's burger with flecks of foie gras, but GBK does compete with most of the specialist burger joints. I guess there is only a certain level of taste to which minced beef can aspire!
  23. Are any flats actually occupied in this block? I keep seeing them both for sale or rent on Rightmove.
  24. Are you going to do takeaway pizzas? In desperate need for something local!
