This thread is getting nowhere. All of us who support the firefighters will continue to do whatever we can to help them get the outcome they want and those who dont obviously have their reasons. I for one hope the non supporters are right and the changes will be for the better but i very much doubt it. The guy in charge is nothing but a corrupt fat cat who will do nothing but harm. Ive never been more sure of anytthing.

I think its a shame its coming to this. I really dont see the ff have any choice but to strike. On the other hand though i dont think this strike will make any difference. Its sad.

No i dont. You use the road then you should be tested on road safety and have a road compitency test. You should be insured to protect yourself as well as everyone else (non motorised vehicles cause accidents too), and you should be licenced to ensure you adhere to the law (red lights, one way street etc). Just my opinion.

i think it 1 oclock. Im sure older children are allowed in the school holidays??? You may want to check though. Other than that theres Gambados or little rascals soft play.

I think anyone using a Car, Bicycle, Motorbike on the roads should have to 1) pass a test 2) be insured and 3) be licenced. I dont see why cyclists should be treated any different from anyother driver on the road.

BBB i used CHELSEA because my brother is stationed there. PECKHAM and FOREST HILL because they are either side of DULWICH which is where i was when i wrote the post. Not that it actually matters because it was an EXAMPLE.

A man has died following a fire in a sheltered accommodation block in Balham this afternoon. Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters attended the incident, which was in a ground floor flat of the Block in Bedford Hill. The Brigade was called at 1534 and the fire was under control by 1632. Crews from Tooting, West Norwood, Norbury and Clapham fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is being investigated. Tooting fire station has had one of it's 2 fire engines commandeered by the management this last week. Who knows the outcome of this fire had 2 fire engines been available from TOOTING!!!

Unless im mistaken LondonFireman outlined the reasons for the strike??? This is what i understand from what i have read and been told. Please correct me if i am wrong?? There are threats of sackings if they dont sign new contracts changing shifts to 12/12. This they believe will then allow the lfb to out scource the nightshift eventually and close stations etc. This will also they believe delay response time and therefore put people at risk. At the moment the shifts are 9/15. If they stop the night shif now and put ff on 4 days (insted of 2 days 2 nights) thats only 36 hours and not the 48 they should be working. Put them on 12/12 and then it will make no difference if they do 4 days as its still 48 hours. So they are free to cut back nighshifts and close stations at night.

Are you SERIOUS? If you get statistics that there is 1 fire every week in the whole of London it doesnt mean to say next week there wont be 10 a night! Id rather there were a few FF sleeping soundly at night safe in the knowledge they're there if we need them.
