He didn't have a problem with increased rent. He owns the building. The Italian offered him a lot of money for the lease and he accepted. Koz will re open in beckenham. Will be more like the Hisar. A takeaway with a restaurant next door.

its the head gasket that has gone and apparently damaged the engine. Not sure if this could have been seen on a service? The guy who sold the car has since told us the head gasket was changed but apparently not. No paper work says sold as seen but i would assume all private sales are?

Need a bit of advice please. My parents bought a car from a private owner. Had a service on it and all seemed well. 2 days later it broke down and they have now been told it needs a new engine. The garage have told them that the previous owner would have known this as they can see recent work has been done on it. My question is do my parents have any legal standing? Would it be worth suing? If so where do we start? Any advice would be really helpfull.

This has really niggled me all day! After loosing my poppy time and time again i had a search on ebay for a poppy "brooch". I came across some beautiful Buckley Diamonte Poppy Brooches. The prices were from ?40 to ?150. Fair enough as they are 18k gold plated. Then i investigated further and found out these Brooches are Buckleys limited edition for the RBL priced at ?9.99 (all proceeds go to the RBL)!!!!! Is it just me or is buying one of these from Buckleys at ?9.99 and then selling them on ebay for ?40 plus just plain wrong! I sent messages to the various sellers asking if the proceeds would be going to the RBL and only 1 (selling at ?96) said that 10% would be donated!

I did contact the local authority who informed me that they sent the PCN to the address on the DVLA system and therefore it was the DVLA at fault. Of course DVLA are taking no blame! So back to southwark i have gone! Its now in their hands again! I have heard this has happend quite alot with the dvla not maintaing their system with the correct information. Very frustrating!
-
This happend to me. PCN sent to old address because the DVLA had not changed it on their system. I had the new reg document with my new address but the clamping company said as the address hadnt changed on the system they were in their rights to clamp! Had to pay ober ?500! Still in disbute with the DVLA to get it back but not having much luck!

Sarcasm really is the lowest for of wit :-S Fact is the Ffs said this was about cuts. Nobody believed them and now surprise surprise 16% cuts! In less than a week!!! So in all honesty I think the Ffs have won this argument as they have been proved right!! It was never about shift changes! It was always about cuts!

The LFB are not trying to close stations or reduce the number of ffs here. It's simply a change to make the way the Fire Service works more efficient. It's worked elsewhere. The LFB are thinking of closing stations and reduce ffs. I quote from a document written by the LFB Points to consider 1. Reduce the crewing level to 4. The appliance could continue to operate at 5 but would not attract a standby if reduced to 4. 2. Reduce the crewing level to 4. Reduce the establishment to 6. Loss of either a CM or FF post. 3. Produce a nighttime schedule for the removal of 10 appliances. Staff on this system would spend both nights conditioned to day duties. (There will be a slightly increased impact on attendance targets) 4. Produce a schedule for the removal of 10 appliances on a fixed basis. Then provide appliance standbys to those locations. Those are just a few! I didn't copy anything Kbabe...would you like to list the unwelcome strings attached to the LFC's offer of the 11/13 split? So that you actually back up your claim with some evidence? Because to be honest there's been more thsan enough claims and no data/ evidence provided by those supporting the strikes on this thread already. Sorry just your post and the LFB website are nearly word for word?? My mistake (tu) Below is part of the memo sent out: At this morning's meeting, the brigade made another slightly amended offer to the FBU. The offer did not seek to change the brigade's longstanding position of either a 12/12 of 11/13 shift pattern. The so-called "incentives" included a mere ?5 increase in the allowance for direct stand-bys; a withdrawal of the proposal to scrap the reimbursement of medical, dental and optical charges (which, in any case, is hardly a concession, as members who qualify for such payments are entitled to them under the Grey Book); a withdrawal of the proposal to scrap the allowance paid to mess managers; agreement that firefighters may stay at stations ? but only where they are "significantly delayed" beyond the end of shift; and some revised arrangements around leave and mutual exchanges. In addition, the brigade did not move its position that all remaining uniformed non-operational personnel must either leave the Grey Book* or be sacked. *National Joint Council For Local Authorities' Fire and Rescue Services, Scheme of conditions of service The Grey book covers the national pay and conditions for operational and control staff of local authority fire and rescue services

If im not mistaken Yorkshire were set to go on an 8 day strike regarding shift changes to 12/12. The union called for national arbitration and the fire authority agreed. The union negotiated 11/13 shifts, and the ffs voted to sign new contract of 11/13 with new benefits. The fbu in London would have agreed to the same but the lfb attached "strings" to the new contracts. This wouldnt be in what you copied from the lfb website though. Formal negotiations regarding shift change times only began in June 2010, just 4 months ago!

Do you believe the fire service does not deliver? They are trying to serve US! They don't want night cover contracted out to assetco. They are not moaning about having to work 12 hour shifts. The effects I speak of are because of this 188. Do you think cutting a night shift by 3 hours will stop sleeping? Stand down is from midnight until about 6 I think so that won't change much will it? My dad had 3 jobs when I was a kid to keep us afloat. Was he wrong? LFB give permission for Ffs to work second jobs and that will not change.

I think theres one at Dog Ken Hill adventure playground on friday.

No Pearson i do not believe everything the Union says. I dont believe much of what is written in the press. I have taken the time to speak to the people involved. I would do the same if it was any other workforce. Ive seen the effect this is having on ffs and i do not believe they deserve to be treated this way. They do an amazing job as do the other emergancy services.

DJKQ i assure you you do not pay my wages! I am not a public sector worker. Public sector workers do not owe you anymore respect than YOU owe them. You think everyone owes you something because you pay tax? Everyone who works pays tax. You are not the only one. The fact is you will not listen to anyone with a different opinion. Fire Fighters have posted on here telling you the reason for the strikes and telling you why they think the new shift is a bad idea. Still you refuse to believe anything that is not a written document. Why will you not believe what a worker involved is telling you before you believe press and politicians? Do you not think fire fighters who do this job every day are more equipped to tell us what changes are needed? Shouldnt they have a voice? Or just sack them and let some desk jocky make the decisions.
-
If they were being paid that would really annoy you wouldn't it? Unfortunatly they are not being paid to strike! You can rest easy. Today your taxes were not paying for londons fire fighters. I will dismiss the BBC if it's reporting utter crap like most. They rely on people like you to not have the sense to not believe all they read.
-
Bully tactics from the union! Not from Coleman and the rest of Toad Hall then! Do you always believe everything the press write? All youve done is list everything ive read in the daily mail! Are you a reporter?
-
DJKQ how is it you know so much about every FF in London? You say you know what they do? How? Were/are you one? Or are you just spouting what you read/hear in the press?
-
Can i just say that the FFs of Forest Hill and Lewisham that we took donuts to today were very welcoming and prepared to answer any questions anyone walking past had. Every other car tooted in support so they are getting support from somewhere. It was a pleasure to speak to them.
-
Loz i think you have a good point about the 2 ways it could go. I think the union could have handled it a bit better but still support the ffs. I think if there is an incident with lives at risk ffs would break the picket. Just like they did 2 weeks ago. I dont think anyone wants to see people hurt over this. In fact even if Coleman himself was to catch fire i think they'd break picket to help :)

Like Moflo said go and speak to a fireman because it is clear some of you have no idea what they do. This strike is not because they dont want to work 12 hour shifts. Its because they know if they do change the night cover for YOU and YOUR homes will be reduced. FACT. This is why the 188 was issued. To force them to sign this new contract. LFB wont listen to any other option. All LFB need to do is lift the 188 and talk without the treats. They wont. FBU suggested 10/14 and 24 hours. If they are prepared to work 24 hour shifts 12 is not problem for them is it? So if as you say they just dont want to work 12 hour shifts why put 24 to the table? Because they know 1 12 hour day and 1 12 hour night can be made into 2 12 hour days to leave the night cover to assetco. THATS what they dont want. Their pay wont change. Yes their family life will be affected and of course they dont want that but these people work bank holidays, christmas weekends whatever so family life is disrupted anyway. This is about the bigger picture. Im not denying the ffs could have got more public support if the didnt decide to strike on 5th november but on the other hand there was hardly a mention of this dispute and the strike 2 weeks ago until 5th november was mentioned. Please dont try to tell me what this strike is and isnt about because you have just read it in the press. Go to the station and talk to an actual person involved and then make up your mind.
-
I'm not a public sector worker. I do however think they are entitled to what they get. Just because I dont get it doesn't mean they shouldn't. Especially emergency services. All of them.
-
They have not been negotiating for 5 years. There has been a yearly memo sent out but nothing else. Talks started in June this year and 188 was issued in august this year. The LFB want to change shift to 12/12 in order for them to in time be able to reduce night time cover at some stations. This isn't made up. Press have had the document that was "leaked" headed Actions to Consider. Not surprisingly press such as the daily mail have decided not to let you know this. Instead they decide to print names and locations of ff that dont live in London. A bit pathetic seeing as London weighting depends on where you work not live. Good old Tory newspapers!! But if you believe everything you read then that's up to you. I can tell u most of it is bull! Regarding pensions sounds like a case of I don't get so why should they! Again. Pathetic.

Bob thats the wrong facebook page. The one moflo talks about is I Support London Fire Fighters. It has over 19,000 "likes".

The strike action is because of the sackings and nothing else. If the threat was removed there would be no strike. They are not striking because they havent got their way with the shifts. They want to discuss but the management refuse to discuss and have therefore started the process of sacking every firefighter in london if they dont sign new a contract. I dont care if its legal or if it happens with other peoples contracts its just wrong. Shift changes aside. Does noone else think its wrong to threaten them with the sack? This is the fire service? Whats next? Sack all police if they dont agree to work for free on a wednesday? Sack all nurses if they dont agree to not treat smokers? When does it stop? We should support our services. They are needed.
