Advice please on waterproof outerwear...
Gussy replied to Pam50's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Have a look on muddlypuddles.co.uk. I got an all in one suit and its brilliant. Just goes over clothes and is totally waterproof. I always pack it in the bottom of the pram. -
Hi Gina, yes have 2 of these in childrens room. They are good, they hold a fair bit of stuff and are particularly good for lobbing bits of lego, or other small toys in like puzzles, dolls etc. Just one down side I've found is they are quite light and the kids can pull out the drawers and once they nearly pulled the whole unit down on themselves (it was the tall one on its own). If properly installed - secured at the top to the wall maybe, they would be totally safe. I'd def buy some more if I could - same as you, its a pain without online delivery.

Anyone interested in sharing a Ikea run..?
Gussy replied to GinaG3's topic in The Family Room Discussion
BeccaL, sadly most of the stock is not available to buy online, particularly the smaller stuff. Its normally a handful of sofas and wardrobes and thats it. Really annoying. Gina have sent you a PM! -
Hi Ruth, you could still go to the PR 1 o clock club. Its only the new bit - outside the club - which is a bit unsuitable for toddlers. The gate is now bolted shut (so no escape possible) and the water tap is turned off, so no wet toddlers either. Still places to sit down and all the toys are out in the outside bit, plus you can always go inside if it rains. Just thinking its closer to you on the bus....opens at 10.30am. Also, the new/existing play equipment is due to open soon - I was told it was this week, but think it was a tad optimistic. Either way, still a good option in my opinion x

RE: playbuilder and equipment for older children, I'm not quite sure where the mini roundabout fits with this? It's being used mainly by the under 5s as far as I can see. This leads to lots of little ones right by the cycle path and oncoming dogs/bikes etc. Also, it would be good to have somewhere to sit down. I can see the bench has been reinstated in the club but I also see a lot of parents perching on the balance bars whilst watching their children. Plus my friend had to breastfeed sitting on one of those post things while her toddler was on the roundabout. Re: dogs, one managed to 'break in' to the 1 o clock club yesterday! It ran around inside the club much to the shock of the parents and children. Most of us saw the funny side and I'm sure it was just a one off, but it had come from next door play area where the owner was sitting (on balance beam!). Re: tap, perhaps it could go up the other end? So it's at the 'top of the hill'?! -

I agree with everything Molly has said. Just to add, I saw the workmen installing the 'old' railings behind the back of the new 1 o clock play area today. So at least they are reusing the stuff instead of throwing it away. -

> > Can anyone explain what the posts are for? > They're too far apart to be used a stepping posts > (and quite frankly the last ones are too high!), > just couldn't see what use they are and that > whatever they cost was a waste of money. I had this discussion with another mum when I was there a few days ago. Even I wouldn't attempt to 'jump' from one to another - too far apart and too high. My toddler climbed on the first one and that was about it. Have no idea what they are for? The water was also turned off when I was there, which was a huge disappointment given it was the hottest day of the year. I 'cautiously' asked at the one o clock club staff* and she mumbled something about the turf not taking so they had to turn it off. (i know, doesn't make sense to me either). *lets face it they're not the friendliest of ladies sometimes(sorry but true) However, to end on a positive note, the new play equipment currently being put into the side/back bit of the club looks good. I think the swing set will be ok for little ones - need another look. -
Sorry zzzz I know....2 yr old sleep opinions...
Gussy replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi I get this with my nearly 3 year old. The only way to crack the staying awake for ages at bed is to skip the lunch nap. Then she goes straight out like a light. The afternoon is tricky though as she is very grumpy. I do make her sit and have quiet time for a few hours while youngest sleeps. This seems to 're-start' her a bit and then she will sleep through until a decent hour in the morning. If she wakes around 5.30am then its a classic overtired sign. Only way to combat that is to just keep doing the nap and normal bedtimes and wait for them to sleep through in their own time. Can take several days though and is unpredictable! There is no magic solution. I think between 2-3 years is a very tricky time for naps/bedtime as they are gradually needing less sleep. Its a real transition time and very hard to manage. I know I drive myself a bit nuts trying to keep on top of how much sleep she needs. Plus my youngest always throws a spanner in my works by waking early and wakes her up. You have my sympathies. Maybe try a day here or there without a lunch nap if you can bear it and see what it does to bedtime? I am currently doing 1-2 no lunch naps a week, depending on how she is/how tired or busy we've been. Good luck x -

Well, don't forget everyone, there's a nice big stash of money to completely re-build the one o clock club at some unidentifiable point, plus the funding withdrawal next april to run it. All sounds completely sorted and well thought through doesn't it? For what it's worth I think the new play area is a good addition and I'm grateful for the improvements. However I agree with everyone that the lack of fencing is an issue for me with 2 kids under 3. The 'road' that runs along side the club/play area is fairly busy with cyclists. I've had many an near miss with my toddlers running out only to narrowly miss bikes, rollerskates etc charging down there. Also had a close call with the tractor that cuts the grass the other day, but that's another story. The water tap thing needs to be moved for sure and the gates need to be more secure. My 15 month old can open them. Not good. -
Yep that's what I heard too.

Not sure if it's going back in but most of the old play stuff is still stashed behind one o clock club so perhaps all is not lost!

When to remove the baby set on the Tripp Trapp?
Gussy replied to ClareC's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I think it was just after she was 2. I agree it was a struggle to get her in and out, but she is quite slim. I think I took the pillow off too and adjusted the top plate so it was as far back (as comfy) but it opened up a big more leg room. In terms of her escaping, I had to make it clear that there was no getting down until you ask mummy and hands/face are wiped (took a few times but ok now). (we never used the harness btw). -
This does look like a great day out but at ?80 for the 4 of us we can't justify it. What a shame that only under 1s go free. I'm not paying ?23 for my 15 month old!

Oh my god hookey is that a joke?? Am I white middle class? Do I live East Dulwich? You know nothing about me you fool. Not that its any of your business but I live in PECKHAM - that's SE15, spit. I frequent WG a lot and I think its great. I was merely posting my support for some new play equipment for older children. I'm sorry if that's offended you. I was just saying that on the days I go (twice a week) I hardly see a soul there. That doesn't mean I think it should be filled up with 'kids stuff'. I think a few people are getting a little oversensitive here. Perhaps your energies could be better spent on focussing on the other users of the park, like those that let their dogs crap everywhere.

I do 6.30pm for 15 month old and 7pm for 2.8 year old. Both of them were going to bed at 6pm up until the age of 1. They just couldn't stay up and/or got harder to settle the later it got. I think the earlier the bed the better they sleep at night - in my experience.

Thank you so much for your replies, all very reassuring. I watered his milk down 50/50 this morning and so far so good. Here's hoping it stops soon.

Hello, just want some reassurances really. My 15 month old has been throwing up and off food for a week now and it shows no sign of stopping (was very sick today). He's not got a temperature anymore (did have at the start), but has a very snotty nose/cold as well (started a few days ago). He managed to pass it onto his sister and myself, and we were both sick with flu symptoms for about 24/48 hours but then recovered and stopped being sick. I'm just concerned that it has lasted a whole week. He's visibly lost weight and is just eating the odd rice cake or breadstick. He drinks, but not as much as he did. He is not dehydrated, but it's still a worry. I saw the GP and he checked all the usual (throat, ears, chest) and they are clear. I got no advice really. Just wondering if there are any other stories of vomiting lasting this long, is it a particularly nasty bug going around? Any tips on easing the sickness? I've stopped his bedtime milk (was sick after) but have been giving into the morning bottle as he goes ballistic if I don't give it, plus he's totally starving by 5/6am. Heard a tip about watering down the milk today, so will try that tomorrow morning. Or should I totally stop the milk altogether? Dr seemed to think the advice about avoiding dairy didn't really apply anymore.... Thanks

This together with the money > already allocated by Greener Cleaner Safer means > that the facility will be rebuilt. > Renata Renata, I just don't understand why on earth would there be money to rebuild, but there's no money to run the place? Why are they allocating money to it when there is such a dire need to make cuts everywhere? For goodness sake the libraries might be closing down, but I know, we could really do with a nice shiny new 1 o clock club. Totally doesn't make sense and is awful awful planning, it makes you wonder who on earth is running the council. Does the Capital Building Program generously give money to building places, but then thats it? Set it up yourself and good luck? Rebuilding is good, of course, but at what cost? A nice new building that we end up having either a small allocated slot for, or to have to pay for some 'class'. If that's the case I probably won't use it. There's enough other things like that available in the area. The main reason I use the 1 o clock club is because its free and a DROP IN. I really hope the future 'vendor' retains this ethos, but I'm sceptical. Personally I'd rather keep the old shack that it is and it stays open as is. -
Huggies do some (well actually a ton of) night-time pull ups that have characters on them - we call them Princess Pants. They've got sickly sweet princess type ladies on - not my thing at all, but my little girl loves them and they make her feel like they are her special night time pants (come in S, M, L) . They can also be adjusted at the side to make them loose/tight. We've actually grown out of them a little, since we ran out and I just reverted to Easy Up pants which I use in the day for my littlest one.

I tell you what would be good, if you could HIRE buggies. It seems we all end up with about 3 different combos and none seem to work out and then you end up selling them or they get shoved in the loft/garage/shed. I would buy a Maclaren and then hire the rest if it was at a good price!

I know I was one of those people too and I never heard from the two ladies (scotchrita.brown-elliston@southwark.gov.uk and maureen.banton@southwark.gov.uk) at Southwark council either. I'm not giving up though! -
Just wanted to say, I use this group on a semi-regular basis and it's great. It's one of the best for big open indoor space for the toddlers to run about and play in, and has nice little areas for babies. So great if you have more than 1 little one or a toddler/baby combo. Sadly I'm moving in a few months, which will mean it will be too far for me to attend, but otherwise I would have put myself forward. I hope it doesn't close and you can find some local mums x
