Recent experiences of Kings College Hospital maternity unit
MrsAk replied to lizined's topic in The Family Room Discussion
First baby in 2011 I was in labour for nearly 3 days and thought that the care at kings was amazing (I started a thread on here at the time saying how pleased I was). I went though at least 6 midwives and every single one of them was brilliant and I truly felt they cared about me and my baby. I had my second baby at kings in October and the thing I was worried about was not getting a room on the labour ward as they were so busy. Got my lovely big room but unfortunately we later discovered that 4 midwives had phoned in sick that day so we had an agency midwife who was just horrible. It felt like she didn't want to be there, didn't read my notes, didn't answer our questions, gave us conflicting advice about when to/not to push, got cross with me for not using the gas and air properly, told my husband to press the emergency button without ever explaining why and generally made us feel like we were a burden amongst many other things. I wish we had spoken up sooner and made sure she was nowhere near us when our baby was delivered. I still feel angry about it especially as the last time all the midwives were amazing. We told the main midwife on duty and she said she needed to know this so they could act accordingly. All the doctors and the midwives on the post natal ward were lovely, it just seems were were very unlucky with this woman. My advice is if you are not happy or feel uncomfortable with any health care professional you need to speak up. -
Jags is very good, there is a parent toddler class on at 9am on Saturdays and other levels on after that. I enrolled my daughter last year and had to get there early and take a number but once you are in you have first chance of renewing for the next lot of lessons. The next lot of lessons start next sat -Dean from jags is very helpful. We have also just started lessons for my baby son at peckham pulse - no queuing to get on, Roxanne who sorts out the lessons was also extremely helpful. Not sure how you would take them together but jags may be your best bet. Good luck!

We have the Ikea expedit bookshelves, they do a variety of different light weight colourful boxes - my friend uses gorilla tubs in hers. We have a single width one for my son's room due to space. The picture is from google to give you an idea. http://housematekate.com/2013/01/17/ikea-expedit-4th-rooms-a-charm/

We took my 2 1\2 year old to the planetarium this morning to see "space safari" aimed at children aged under 7. She loved it - it's on until the end of Feb! http://www.rmg.co.uk/whats-on/events/space-safari

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had been to a 'feather down farm' and if so which one they would recommend. Thank you!

Hi, We are trying to organise a trip away in June and are looking at properties in the South of France. It will need to be minimum 4 bedrooms - I was just wondering if anyone has been away and has a recommendation? Alternatively if you have suggestions on other villas in other countries we would be open to that too! Thanks in advance!

Last year we went to Battersea Park Zoo for a day out and went to see Father Christmas even though we hadn't planned it. It was lovely, no queue, lovely pressies and 'elves'! It was only ?5 but you have to pay to get into the zoo which isn't particularly cheap. Went to the horniman this year but wish we had gone back to battersea! http://www.batterseaparkzoo.co.uk/index.php/events-information/item/visit-santa-at-the-zoo

I have also been trying to decide the best solution to this problem. In the end I have just bought a second hand p and t which I will probably use for a few months and then sell it on. I have decided that I'm not a sling type of person and my daughter likes to run away from me as much as possible! For my own sanity I think I'm going to need them strapped in... We'll see how it goes in a few weeks!

Hi, We are thinking about moving my daughter from her cot into an adults size single bed. Can anyone recommend a make of single bed which has worked for their child. Thank you in advance!

Baby/Toddler Swim School needed in ED?
MrsAk replied to Salsie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We also went to the privately owned pool near Dulwich college and it was brilliant. Unfortunately the neighbours complained about the cars coming and going and I think the owner had to apply for a different type of licence so the lessons stopped. They had baby swimming on a couple of days and aqua tots I think on the others. -
I also recommend Dulwich college old library which is where we got married. You hire it for a couple of hours and then have to pay for the registrar to come out. I think it holds about 100 people. Good luck with your search!

yes we have some. They were a little big for her last winter when she was about 7 months but they stayed on. The only thing is they don't have a place for the thumbs - they do keep her hands warm though!
