New Shops in East Dulwich and Nearby - 2025 Edition
a_m replied to Joe's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If JoJo can't afford the increasing rent there (which was one of the reasons a staff member gave when I asked why they were closing), it's odd that a charity shop could - not doubting what you've been told, but it just doesn't make sense! -
Another big thumbs up and recommendation for Aston. He was super helpful and fitted us in at very short notice when we realised we needed to sort out the silicone seal on our shower tray to prevent a leak. As always he was incredibly professional, friendly and did a brilliant job. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him.

If you're talking about prescription medicines or anything you bought or picked up in a pharmacy, you should take them to any pharmacy for safe disposal. If you mean products you bought "over the counter" with no prescription, depending what they are, there may still be advice or limits on them that would usually be handled at the point of sale, so caution is needed. You could speak to a pharmacist for advice. Appreciate you're trying to do something positive and helpful, but please also bear in mind potential safety risks.

Sad to see that Marvellous Greens and Beans on Grove Vale is closing down. Kitchen shop next door looks like it might be too...

Without a CPZ, motorists pay zero to park their private vehicles on council streets. This one is...37p a day. Yes but it can be a lot more than that - any time anyone visits a resident in the CPZ, or you have a tradesperson doing work on your property etc, you have to pay for visitors’ parking which can make it a lot more than 37p a day, even in the current 2 hour restriction.

Totally agree with you both. In my view there was insufficient evidence for Southwark to introduce the PW scheme in the first place, and no clear need or reasoning for its potential extension (other than Southwark's obvious wish to raise more revenue). If you agree, please say so on the link for comments. The only way we've got of stopping this is to tell Southwark there are no clear grounds for this. Granted they'll probably try to find a way round that but we've at least got to try... www.southwark.gov.uk/zonePWreview

Would rather not say seeing as I've disclosed my house number! But just in case anyone happens to have found 2 blue bins or spotted them and notices 63 on them....
-
Last night I heard some loud/drunken voices in the street passing our houes and something being dragged along - I assumed it was a suitcase. This morning I woke up to find that both our blue recycling bins have gone missing. Don't know if stolen or moved for a joke, but highly annoying. Before I order some more from Southwark (and wonder what to do with my recycling for the next 10 days as that's how long it takes them to deliver), has anyone seen two stray blue recycling bins with "63" in white numbers on the side where they shouldn't be? Thanks in advance.

A repeat recommendation for Tom who is consistently super professional, efficient, and a pleasure to deal with. He supplied and fitted a new extractor fan in our bathroom super speedily with absolutely no fuss. I have no hesitation in continuing to recommend him!

We re-homed our cat from Battersea - they always have a lot of cats there waiting to be re-homed. You can see a gallery on their website.

Brilliant service from Tom at Top Signal - he sorted out a tricky internet connection issue for us and was absolutely fantastic. Super professional, efficient, quick and courteous and a really nice guy to deal with. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him and we will most definitely be using him again. -
Will Southwark ever collect my garden/food waste bin again?
a_m replied to a_m's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks James, I appreciate your offer of help. It took four missed collection reports but my brown bin has now been collected! I also had a call from the Environment team and asked about the question of food waste. Apparently you can put food waste loose into your garden bin, but shouldn?t use compostable bags. Thanks again. -

Thank you for flagging that Zak - that?s super helpful but a shame the Council couldn?t have let me know directly - I thought the refuse collectors left little labels/tags on your bin if you?d put the wrong things in it. Also I have to say I?m quite baffled at this separation between garden and food waste as up till now they?ve been collecting mine combined every week since the garden waste scheme began with no issues and none of my immediate neighbours (who also subscribe for garden waste collection) seem to have separate food waste bins either, so not sure what?s going on - but I appreciate your post nonetheless! -

It's been four weeks now - I've reported every week's missed collection - and now have a cloud of fruit flies greeting me every time I open the brown bin as four weeks of food and garden waste sit in there rotting. Completely appreciate these are trying times and there are more important things in the world, but how can the Council justify charging us an additional ?40 a year for this service on top of our council tax and then fail to provide it for so long? I've submitted a complaint - the reply to which was that Covid and "adverse weather" in January had caused service problems but all missed bins have now been collected (clearly not true), I've emailed the Environment team several times with no answer, and copied in our Councillor. Is anyone else's brown bin also not being collected?
