Southwark Parking Wardens - setting a poor example
Mscrawthew replied to Gimme's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It seems the good people of Camberwell are also on the case http://www.southwarknews.co.uk/00,news,17287,185,00.htm -
Totally agree Huggers but even Dulwich park packed to the rafters on a sunny afternoon in the summer is not suitable for even the best behaved dogs, Far to little space for a dog to have a good run without being knocked over by a jogger or a cyclist :))
-
Hi Molly I also avoid the park at peak times as my dog is also very friendly and as responsible people we know that not everyone enjoys having a dog sharing their space. The one thing that drives me mad are the people who have their dogs off lead and at the sight of them running towards my dog who is always on lead in the park, Will wave and say "Oh, He/She is fine" How would she like a total stranger bombing towards her whilst being tethered to something and not having any way of escaping. Problem is a lot of people have no idea about dogs body languange and warning signs given out by even their own dogs that they cause problems for other people. Sadly again, if more people were confronted/fined for not picking up life would be a lot easier for all the dog ownwers who do take others into consideration. No point in having laws if they are not enforced and no backing for anyone who would be willing to confront someone either. This debate could go on for another 20 pages but until the law is enforced, Things won`t change.

daizie Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hit scum where it hurts , the pocket :) Sadly daizie, The type of person who will turn a dog into a weapon will just about put their hand in their pocket to feed them let alone buy a dog licience. Dogs are not neutered, innoculated, socialised, chipped or even have a collar. Yet again the law is an ass as owners of dogs off lead in the street and without an identification tag attached to their collar should be fined but when does it ever happen. The only way to stop the sale of puppies at ?10 a piece is to enforce manditory neutering, which again will never happen because of lack of funds and other worthwile causes needing funding. Hundreds of dogs a day are pts because of overbreeding. It`s all about a quick buck, Ban the owner not the dog.

Hi Huggers As I said before, There will always be ignorant people who disregard other people space, The Rye is more than big enough to have a large area just for dogs who, like you say mostly plod along and have no problems with others. Goose Green is a far smaller area and is used by quite a few dog lovers without major problems apart from again the ignorant who think they are to good to pick up after their animals. I am not saying this would mean all dogs would have to be on lead all of the time and totally argee that although the area`s for people are empty through the colder months, The Childrens play area and the picnic section and other sections should be kept dog free and if there was a large dedicated area for dogs to free run then they would be more unlikely to use the dog free area`s. It would also ensure that in the summer months when everyone uses the space that the amount of dog feces that is left behind (By all class of resident) would be in a concentrated area rather than spread all over which isn`t nice for anyone. Of coure there will always be a small percentage who will disregard any thought for other`s. As for De-clawing cats, No we are not the states but unfortunately also not the animal loving nation that we like to think we are.
-
I think its time for dedicated dog areas in local parks, With a dedicated, fenced area for dogs to free run (As a dog owner , I know how important this is for them) and then there wouldn`t be the problem of dogs being let loose in enclosed area`s which are quite rightly meant for children/families and non dog loving humans. The problem at Goose Green highlighted the fact that you couldn`t have your dog off lead outside the enclosed area ( With 3 different entrance gates which are left open most of the time) and the enclosed non dog area being the safest, which was why it was used by walkers wanting to let thier dogs have a run. Maybe it`s time for a reversal of using enclosed area`s to keep dogs in and not out? In the States they have dedicated "Doggie parks" that seem to work well and as we have a growing population of four legged friends it is maybe now a necessity? As we all know there will always be a minor percentage of the population who will disregard any rule or regulation but as been said time and time again, There are a lot of very responsible dog owners out there including Bull Breed owners who are cast with same reputation as the people who should never be able to walk the streets, Let alone with a dog beside them.
-
Again, its not the breed it`s the deed. Any dog that isn`t socialised properly from a young age is a risk. Because of all the media hype regarding Bull Breeds they attract the wrong kind of owner and sadly they are cast as a "devil dog" when the real, respnsible owners know it`s a completely different story.

It`s not the dog`s fault he ended up with a stupid, ignorant human, I hope Woody is feeling better. This man needs to be found and banned from owning dogs. Unfortunately, the dog would probably be pts and through no fault of his own.

I don`t have the need to convince anyone of anything Sue, Just stating some facts from someone I know and trust ;-)

When plain clothes officers are involved in a situation they will wear something to identify themselves as being part of the operation in progress, would be a bit stupid if officers from another unit couldn`t identify them as being on the same side. A cap is small enough to be hidden whilst they are acessing a situation and blatently obvious when used. This method is often used. I heard the helicopter that evening and am not to far from you.
-
I also know of someone who was caught up in this incident and I think it is insulting to those who were disturbed or genuinely frightened by what happened the other night to be told it was a figment of their imagination. Thankfully it was over and done with in quite a short space of time considing how many officers were invovlved but just because it wasn`t outside your front door, it doesn`t mean it didn`t take place.

North Cross Road sub station - art installation

So this piece of "ART" will spell out NCR just above the road sign that is already there? What a waste, where does the funding for this idea come from? Council Tax? I`m sure there must many more practical things it can go towards? Which part of this proposal is in fact making Dulwich cleaner, greener or safe? Isn`t it about time Southwark residents had a say in where their money is spent? -

Thanks for your replies everyone, I have called the theatre and the show is on so we will try and get there this evening. Please try and avoid Crawthew Grove as lots of cars are having a lot of problems getting past the Crawthew/Worlingham Rd junction because of ice. I have just been out there helping a car roll back down the road be cause he was sliding everywhere. -

Has anyone done the 176/40 journey from Lordship Lane today? I am taking my Son to see "We will rock you" at the Dominion tonight and thought we would go by tube via Elephant and Castle or Train to London Bridge From East Dulwich and then the tube. Not sure which would be the most efficent and how long either will take? -
Try www.hotukdeals.co.uk. You can normally keep an eye on whats around when you have the deals/computer tabs highlighted and you can also find lots of discount codes on the site as well.

Makes you wonder where on earth all that money is going from the adverts as it doesn`t seem to appear very often through anyones letter box? -
I have seen the 2 young foxes quite a few times in and around Archdale/Frogley Road. I would say definately the same young foxes that have been in Sue`s garden. What worries me is the fact that they don`t seem to be to frightend of cars or Humans. I drove down Archdale at 8.30pm last Wednesday and one of them was sitting in the road and the other on the pavement near bye. I drove slowly expecting them to run but we just sat looking at each other for about 5 minutes until another car came flying up in the other direction. They are absolutely beautiful.

LMAO It wasn`t that interesting ;-)
