They disagree on the cocker spaniel and the Stafford doesn`t appear to be in the bite statistic survey and surely even if the Kennel club has it`s faults it wouldn`t be stupid enough to recommend a dog as a child friendly dog if they were as bad as the press and everyone who believe`s what they spout were true, Surely?

Staffords were also breed to herd Bulls but they haven`t been specifically bred for dog fighting or Bull herding for years. They have been family pets for a long time and up until the media started scaremongering and helping to increase the problem of twats owning a bullbreed because of the hype and misinformation they have spouted, Staffords wern`t even mentioned in mainstream gutter press or anywhere else for that matter. Because of a very small minority a large majority get slated. Stafford owners are not all Chavs and young adolesent boys. I have a closed mind because I own a Stafford?

It`s also a pity that people pick holes without offering any alternative information. You may have provided the fact that cocker spaniels may or may not be suitable to have around children but for someone who can make a statement that a certain breed of dog is soley bred for dog fighting really needs to open their mind! Just because The Sun prints something it doesn`t make it gospel either.

I cannot understand how so many so called intelligent people can class one breed of dog as being a bad breed when common sense tells you its down to the individuals upbringing and treatment by the owner. Yes, there a lot of idiots out there who do not know how to treat their dogs properly and use them because they have small penises and couldn`t fight their way out of a paper bag and therefore have to use a dog to make themselves look macho and listened to the media hype and accuired a bull breed. But there are many more individuals that have bull breeds who know the real facts regarding their characters and take time to train their dogs to be very well behaved members of their families. There has been an explosion of bull breed owners and therefore it makes total sense that reported incidences with a breed which is probably has the highest population in the country will be higher. If this country was full of a certain breed of snake then it would be that particular species reported on a regular basis. Do you not think that everytime an incident is highlighted regarding a bullbreed that responsible owners don`t care? We fight everyday for common sense to prevail over what is now becoming a witch hunt for particular breeds when it is the owner and not the breed who needs to be locked up and then pts on a cold , hard metal table with a lethal injection because it certainly isn`t the dogs fault.

With respect Chica, This woman does look the part and is very good at what she does. She knocked on my door in Grove lane about 3 years ago with the same story but failed when she said she had moved into a flat down the road and I knew the occupants. She is very, very good at what she does and unless you have had the experience of this very good conlady, it`s really unfair to judge peole and say they are gullible and easily conned.

Well said Lawrence, I too work in a Shop and am constantly amazed at how some parents just ignore the way their children act and let them run riot. Some children are obviously to precious to hear the word "no" or even worse have the parents "I can do what I want, when I want" attitude rub off on them.

There seems to be a certain amount of serial offenders where I live, one of them being a large off lead weimaraner who`s owner just walks on in front and ignores what his dog is depositing. Problem as usual is very few give many a bad reputation.

Spot on firstmate, I think Labradors can be added to that list as well.

That you firstmate, I know Stafford and English Bull terier owners who foster dogs until they are re-homed all of which teach foster dogs how to fit into a pack without using aggresion or dominance. It`s the same old story, Hundreds of dogs get along fine everyday and nothing is mentioned and the one`s that don`t are highlighted, Everything gets blown out of proportion and the scaremongering starts.

This is where the problem lays, People believe the hype.

You type a lot faster than me firstmate :)) Yes, hundreds of Staffies in rescue because of people breeding them and then realising it is a buyers market as there are hundreds to choose from because of over breeding. There is a group on facebook called "Staffies aren`t dangerous" with 30,000 members they can`t all be wrong regarding how loving, loyal and intelligent this breed is. Also lots of small independent rescues on facebook who will climb a mountain with no rope to save a lot of dogs including Staffies. New-hope animal rescue being one of them.

Totally agree with you Cassidy, I am a Stafford owner who is also very well socialised and as daft as a brush. I have people look at me with disgust, Grab their children when they see me and even when she sits to let people pass on a narrow pavement and I smile at the people passing they don`t even acknowledge me. As Stafford owners we know what the breed is all about and it isn`t what is put out in the media. Fine example, walking her recently a man was approaching with a Jack Russell, My dog was wagging her tail wanting to say hello and his dog was snarling and barking and trying to get at her. She done nothing but look confused at why the dog was acting up. Amazing how things like that are never mentioned but it isn`t Jack Russells that are crucified by the media. Dogs such as Akita`s, German Shepherds and Dobies are more likely to attack a person because of their strong instinct to protect their owner a stafford would lick you to death. Maybe if the Government realised how much tax they were losing from money being made by back street breeding they might just get of their backsides and do something?

I work with various rescue`s ( all volunteers) and people who dedicate almost all of their time to trying to save dogs from being pts after their 7 days are up at the pound. Yes, thats 7 days. If they are not claimed or a rescue has no space or funding for emergency boarding isn`t available then they are pts. these animals are also treated for worms flea`s etc and also in a lot of cases other medical problems through mistreatment or pure ignorance. Boarding costs an average of ?6.50 per dog per day. There are thousands of dogs and cats pts evey year in this country because of over breeding. Like Brendan said it is easy to not think about it but if people don`t help or campaign for something to be done the situation will just get worse. I just want the government to wake up and realise that unless something is done the problem of stupid people breeding dogs only makes the already dire situation even more of a problem with dogs in the wrong hands. I love dogs and would love to see the suffering stop not wipe them out completely.

The main thing to start with (which will never happen) would to be able to stop all back street breeders, This of course is inpractical but if these sources didn`t have demand it wouldn`t be worth their time to supply. All rescues neuter and spey before adoption or stipulate the animal has to be done at the right age as part of the adoption agreement. If the only way you could actually have a dog would be through a rescue or registered breeder (even though there are still problems associated with breeders handing in unsold or non-perfect litters to rescue) Funding should be given to rescue`s to enable them to ensure that all unwanted dogs are neutered and that the have the funding to keep any animal until it is re-homed. All dogs are assesed before rehoming and are matched to a suitable home. This of course does not happen with back street breeders. Again, if people continue to be allowed to sell animals through the free-ads then the wrong people will always be able to own a dog.

Compulsory neutering should also be enforced as well as all the free-ads (pre-loved, Gumtree etc) being banned from advertising and puppy farms should be shut down immediately. Back street breeders pockets are lined from people who pay them for animals and just encourage more unwanted animals. Hundreds are pts everyday (all breeds) because of all of the above. It`s going to take a lot more than a muzzle and lead to ensure that irresponsible people turn innocent dogs into walking weapons. Another problem is because of the media, Bull breeds are used by the irresponsible when in fact it takes a lot to make them aggressive and it all entails mistreatment and cruelty. Again it`s the deed not the breed and if the media didn`t continue to feed misinformation regarding these breeds then Joe Public wouldn`t be as misinformed as they are. And they would never have become a "Status" Breed.

Both my Son and Daughter have had no or very little reception on tmobile for the last 4 days. Rang customer services last night and they said there is a problem and it should be resolved in 24 hours but I wouldn`t count on it!

There is also a gentleman with a 9 month old American Bull Dog who walks around NCR, As so many people don`t know their Staffords from their Pitbull/Boxers/Mastiffs etc, this is another responsible owner who has nothing to do with poor Woody.

Yes, the park is for everyone, including 99.9% of the responsible dog walkers who use it.
