  1. Be prepared to iron on a new label every time you do the laundry ...
  2. I've read back a few posts and the new opening date appears to be Feb 2011. Or am I wrong?
  3. I have spoken to six Goodrich parents today. None of us have received any texts. I feel sorry for the staff but this is shambolic.

  5. I would be interested to hear more about this, if possible. Closing the school for at least two days has such a huge impact on parents and carers. I do hope it was done because there was absolutely no alternative whatsoever.
  6. "From the people I've known since teenage years I think the proportion of those who've managed to give up smoking cigarettes (for EVER) is less than the proportion who've managed to give up heroin." I'd say 95% of my friends and acquaintances who have smoked in the past have now given up. Am talking about people in their 30s and 40s here. I can't say if I/they have given up for EVER because, thankfully, we are not dead yet. It really is not that difficult to give up smoking, come on. It is difficult not to succumb to temptation and have a fag with a drink when you're a little bit pissed, tis all.
  7. Absolutely definitely not, because my friends don't live there. I am a sociable soul and I couldn't bear to be lonely. I did move to Devon for a couple of years (husband's job) and hated it. Couldn't wait to get back to lovely dirty congested Lunnun.
  8. I think it probably is damzel. Just think how marvellous you are for resisting through all the many thousands of drinks you've had since giving up :)-D

    Thanks for replying.
  10. Today there were signs up in the windows saying that it is closed until some time in September due to major renovation/ building works.

    Ask Admin

Dear Admin, Is it just or me, or is the thread entitled "Previously The Uplands ..." in the General ED Issues/Gossip section, nothing more than one long promotional thread about a forthcoming business venture from someone (possibly the owner?) very strongly connected to The Bishop? And, even though The Bishop is a much-loved ED business, how come "Scott" is allowed to post repeatedly about his plans for the Uplands premises and, in effect, conduct a continuous PR campaign for his new business for free on the Forum, when other businesses are not permitted to do so under your Terms & Conditions (from my reading of which, they are allowed one "free" mention of their business, and then that's that)? I have no axe to grind with the OP of that thread, or The Bishop, or any of Scott's other business interests for that matter. But it seems to me to be a quite marked exception to the rule. Would be interested to hear.
  12. If you haven't been already, I am certain you would enjoy a visit to the Sir John Soane museum in Lincoln's Inn Fields. Amazing place.
  13. DJKQ: I am almost certain that what you say about ownership of what as person writes on an internet forum "coming under intellectual property rights" is not true. But I'd be happy to be proved wrong, if you could point me in the right direction ... I have good reasons for my questioning of this point. I think it is a common misconception. Am not being arsey, honest.
  14. I lurk but don't post much on EDF because I spend way too much time on another internet forum - and I liked to pretend I have a real life as well. Anyways, on the other forum (I mainly live on) we get loads of trolls AND journalists. Because its fairly highbrow people are usually quick to sniff out a fake. Then they fall in to, broadly, one of two camps: (i) don't give a s*&t about trolls and (ii) oh b@~ls, I've been had by a troll, that's really annoying. Amazing.
  15. Dear God, I really have to wonder how come I can lurk on this forum, and read most threads, almost daily, for - what is it? 3 years now - and never have registered the name jrussell before now. My senior moments are all blurring in to one.
  16. I am not sure of its current name. Its been Budgens, I think. I just think of it as 7-11 as it was 7-11 when I moved here 14 blissful years ago.
  17. Does no one go to 7-11 any more?
  18. Did you see the driver of the Sixt van drive off and abandon the scene?
  19. I would imagine they could trace the account number of whoever withdrew cash immediately before the OP. Unless the OP didn't withdraw cash at all and just happened to see the cash left there.
  20. I find Northcross Road market slightly irritating, wholly irrelevant to me and my family, and were I to look at the prices on the bits of frivolity on offer I am sure I would find them on the high side.
  21. How does an utter newb make themselves known at these drinks? Should I come in wearing a badge saying Dorothy? I'd probably try and persuade a real life friend to come with me but what if no-such friend could be found that night?
