I can't believe this is happening. Cycling is not really an option when you have to get 2 small kids to get to school and there is literally no other way that the South Circular and a car, electric or not. The standstill traffic is horrific for pollution and traffic AND not all the schools have even gone back yet. We might have to take ours out of their school as we just cannot afford a 1h 45 min round trip twice a day when we're both working. Totally mismanaged and selfish by the looks of what I've read. You cannot just do this to people. It stinks of NIMBYism

Thank you to @EastDulwichNewbie for raising this. It's a heartfelt plea to those who love our community: Please can all those who can afford to - and we appreciate that many people can't right now - find time to go into or call up their favourite cafe /bar/restaurant/pub etc in the next couple of days and hand over a chunk of money for credit when this madness ends? Yes, it maybe not be enough to save everyone and that is a risk we will take, but if lots of people give a little, it will make a huge difference to those businesses we all know and love. I'm talking about V?ro at the French Cafe Bistrot, those lovely Italians at Signoria. Places we love to be in, not just 'a place' to get something to eat and drink. Expecting these establishments to suddenly develop a voucher system is unfair, so we are asking them to get hold of a small notebook - a 'book of hope' to record people's details and offerings. If we are truly a community, this should be enough. Many of us are on first name terms anyway with our faves. Who's in? #LoveEastDulwich

Supporting local businesses
Mrs Nicklin replied to EastdulwichNewbie's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm going to start another urgent thread about this. I know many of our community are freelancers and just lost all our work, which is devastating. Some on salaries can afford to help a bit however, paying for a few meals up front for when the coast clears at your favourite cafe or restaurant could be life changing for the owners. -
Thank you, I will pass this in. She is keen. You haven't said which caf? though, Please confirm! Helena

Hi Woman of Dulwich! I found this old thread but would love to know if you still do your classes on Thursday mornings/ I have a new au pair who arrived today from Spain (she is 26) Thanks Helena 07980 311525

We've just done the same on a tall house with three landings but with only one door to paint. It cost us double that... I actually think that's not too bad at all. Does it include the paint? if so, I would say it's a decent quote.

Hello everyone, My daughter will be starting in Reception at Rosemead in September. We live in East Dulwich (Marmora Road) and wondered if anyone one else was close so we could potentially start sharing some picks ups and having play dates after school so the kids are not always having to do the after school club. Please PM if interested!

Getting au pairs insured on your car. Help!
Mrs Nicklin posted a topic in The Family Room Discussion
Please forgive the 'first world problem' nature of this message, but has anyone managed to insure an au pair who has just arrived in the country to drive their car? Are there any companies that will do this? It's kinda crucial to our whole childcare set up in Sept. Thanks for any advice! Helena -
Another massive thumbs up for Elliot the carpenter. He's so polite and communicative (yes, that is important!)his work is excellent and his rates are fair. Highly recommended. His tel: 07857 115 971

Please return my bin! Marmora Road
Mrs Nicklin replied to Mrs Nicklin's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I should have signed off as that! -
Due to overflowing recycling in our blue bin, we put our big Brabantia bin out when we heard the recycling men this morning, but I think someone thought we were leaving it for people to help themselves. Totally fair enough they would think that but it wasn't being given away. Please return it if you have it!! We're at 60 Marmora Rd. Thanks very much :)

Wanted! Night nurse who can help with bottle feeds
Mrs Nicklin replied to Mrs Nicklin's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you so much everyone. I called nightnannies and managed to get a lady to come the next day who used the NUK bottles and managed to train Cora within a couple of hours. It has changed my life. Cora is now putting on weight before my eyes and we are all sleeping better. It was sxpensive, but well worth every penny. Feeling the forum love big time. xx -
Wanted! Night nurse who can help with bottle feeds
Mrs Nicklin replied to Mrs Nicklin's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I don't think it's a growth spurt as it has been going on too long. I'll have a look at that site, jacks50. Thank you all very much! -
Yes, we did this with our victorian semi on upland road. We unblocked the original and put a lovely edwardian metal one in. It cost about ?1500 all in but was worth it. We used Bob who was at the junction emporium just off LL. I think he's gone now though. Casa on bellenden road does all this stuff too.

Wanted! Night nurse who can help with bottle feeds
Mrs Nicklin replied to Mrs Nicklin's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks Strawbs. Yes, we've tried 4 bottle teats now. The nuk is showing the most promise so I'll stick with that and a gently gently approach for a few days. Tried my mum and my partner feeding. I've had the best success so far though, annoyingly! She hasn't taken a proper feed at all today. Argh! I feel I meed someone to help break the 'making up for it at night' cycle! x -
Can anyone help, please?! I'm looking for a night nurse who can help get my 12 week old baby girl to take a bottle. She was a great sleeper and feeder until 3 weeks ago. She took a bottle at 2 weeks but we were advised to stop util breastfeeding was established at 4-5 weeks. What a mistake! Now she won't take it at all. Her sleep pattern has regressed so much so that last night she woke up every hour after 2am until I gave up at 6.45. My milk supply is now pitiful and she's not getting enough food, so the cycle is getting worse. For the last two days she has been refusing day time breastfeeds and I'm at the end of my tether... Any suggestions very gratefully received. H

Thanks everyone for all the information. Much appreciated. I agree with Zedd too: if you're worried, get in touch with Harriet Harman. It's not too late to change it!
