Is there a folk version of Bach to Baby
beababies replied to Ellie78's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hello everyone! Bea with Bea's Baby Bop here, love love love this post :) ! Ellie, what a brilliant idea, there SO should be something like this :) ! MiaoMiao, I've heard such great things about Bach To Baby, it looks like such a brilliant program, I wish I could make it to one of your concerts but I'm usually teaching at the same time :/ ! Ellie, that's really sweet of you to include Baby Bop in your folk for babies thoughts :) very happy about that! Just seen this thread and thought I'd let you know that I have a folk band called "The Hobos" where I sing and play guitar with full band (so percussion, drums, banjo, accordion and bass). You and your son would be so very welcome to come along for a listen and a dance with us sometime :) ! We do sometimes play gigs during the day that are baby friendly. We've played some gigs at Rye Books in East Dulwich. . .I'll have to let you know when the next baby friendly gig is! You can have a listen to us here http://www.thehobos.co.uk We have a gig coming up on February 5th in East Dulwich at a very baby friendly venue but it's just as a duo and on a Wednesday from 7pm so not ideal! Will let you know if I hear of any other folk-y weekend baby friendly day concerts. This is a great CD if you're wanting some baby friendly folk too :) http://www.putumayo.com/content/sing_along_putumayo_0?section=kids Incidently,Miaomiao, if you ever fancied having a folk band for a Bach To Baby session, we'd be interested in getting involved :) ! Thanks so much to Rebeccaben and everyone who took the time to message with venue ideas! As of this week the Tuesday/Wednesday afternoon sessions will be meeting at the lovely Locale on East Dulwich Road! Please see more details and the updated class schedule HERE! Best, Bea x -
Hello! Happy Friday afternoon! As some of you know, my afternoon drop in baby toddler music classes that usually meet at The Plough need a new home as of next week! I'm scrambling around for good, potential, nearby venues and am in talks with several but if you have any more venue suggestions, they'd be much appreciated! Thanks very much to everyone who's already helped! Will update with our venue options if and when I have them :) ! All the best, Bea xx

hi Trish, So so sorry to hear about this tragic story, thank you for putting up all the details as well as the intricacies of the attack. The fact that it happened through play and a seeming accident only makes it even more sad and it definitely serves as a caution for dog owners like myself as I know I can get quite relaxed with dogs meeting my dog in the park and tend to think that if dogs are off the lead then they must be socialized. I just wanted to say if you are looking for free legal advice, you can go to your local Citizens Advice Bureau and see / get help from a lawyer for free. Best, Bea

Not strictly family but a head's up...mugging
beababies replied to jennyh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Jenny, so sorry to hear about this and to also hear how it has happened to several other people as well. I can't believe it's occurred in the middle of the afternoon as well as when with children, quite shocking and scary! Hope you're doing OK today. Out of interest to everyone else that was mugged in a similar way, did you have your Iphone out at the time? I.e., were you talking on it? I follow Fapl's advice and stick to my cheap plastic Nokia for this and other reasons one of which being that essentially Iphones are very expensive small computers. I completely understand the need for them, especially in your case being self employed, and the convenience they provide. I think the thing is that Mobile companies have now made them so accessible and easy to afford and they are therefore becoming so widespread that it's easy to forget what an intricate and expensive piece of technology they are. I try to keep that in mind and I advise friends to put them out of sight when on the street at night, although, I really wouldn't have thought you'd have to do the same in the middle of the day! I do feel like your post served as a wake up call for me though as I have found that often when multi tasking, walking and texting I can be so absorbed and completely unaware of what's going on around me. Hmmm I suppose the answer is never to use our phones when in transit?! Oh regarding lost photos and videos, I swear a friend who lost her Iphone said that miraculously all her photos were on the new replacement phone, as they were stored on her account somehow through Apple, is this possible or have I been a bit gullible as a non Iphone user?! -
With no experience of my own to draw on, I'm calling in Supernanny's advice :) ! Sorry, I don't know if you like her methods but the above advice seems similar to her sleep "technique" when putting toddlers to bed, if they start crying then she advises parents to go into the room and to sit at the base of the cot, or nearby and to face towards the door, and as the advice above states, not to engage with the child, or pick them up but sit there, and in Supernanny's (!) opinion to face the door, without moving or talking, so that they feel comfortable knowing you're there to fall asleep. From episodes I've seen where parents do this, in really difficult cases, the first night around this is really tough, with parents having to sit through quite a bit of crying, but the nights afterwards are almost instantaneously much better. Might be worth a try?! Bea x

Hi Lucy, Dulwich Library has a free baby/toddler session from 1:30-3pm thursdays otherwise there's Crystal Palace or Brockwell park one o'clock clubs free from 1-4pm. Gymboree toddler play in Herne Hill has a toddler session thursdays but it's at 1:30pm and requires a term commitment. Best, Bea x -
