Thanks Burbage. Do I lodge a complaint with the CAA?
-
It's near the Upland Pub. Facing North Cross Road, it is on your left - viewing from the top of North Cross Rd, it is on your right.

It might just be me but as a plane passed overhead a few minutes ago I swear I smelt jet fuel. I know that planes often do jettison fuel before landing but should it be happening over a populated area? On the other hand, it may be another odor entirely.

Loving the new footpath in Crystal Palace Road. Why here? Is it going anywhere else? Edited to correct my language - where I come from a footpath is a pavement is a sidewalk - all the same.

Hate being political but it is a fine thing that the Lib Dem councillors are waking up when the horse has truly bolted! I understand your concern Cloudnine - which is why, since my child got in to our first choice school I have previously been reluctant to post here - I am concerned about bulge classes and their affect on my child's education.

primary and secondary schools in dulwich and ED
EDmummy replied to inglesa68's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Gee, over ?13k a year before you buy uniforms, sporting equipment, pay for school trips. Even with scrimping and saving a vast majority (very vast) would not be able to afford that so how can there possibly be a balance within the student body? -
Advice needed: will I need a moses basket?
EDmummy replied to Jo's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Did the same as Fuschia with no. 1 and 2 - sheepskin/sofa for no. 1 and moses basket for no. 2. The moses basket was a god send when having to deal with demands from more than one child and baby no. 2 spent a great deal of time in it (he was a feeder/sleeper for the first 3 months). We borrowed one and then passed it on to the next person who needed it. Perhaps someone on the forum has one they could let you have/use. -
I heard that plane as well, Michael. I thought it might be a military plane as it did not seem on a regular flight path and sounded very low.

That made me laugh, Belle. Sounds like he is going to be a very interesting individual. I am saying that from experience although mine was a screamer who also didn't like sleep (at night at least), also a dummy lover. He is now a wonderful 8 year old who still has better things to do than sleep, loves intelligent conversation and is incredibly interesting (although has a low boredom threshold). It takes all types. I am happy with 'interesting'.

6 weeks! Give yourself a break and start off with some gentle walking with baby.

Steve T, I agree that it is a shame that the pool will still be the same size in ED but at least disabled people will be able to access it! I am also more than glad that the changing rooms will be improved!!!

If the kid/kids are going to be out of your house, I would suggest staying home! It is unbelievable luxury to have the house to yourself with no kids to wake you up in the morning (I have an 8 yr old who has never slept past 6am!). Start with cocktails and then lots of great restaurants on your door step. Wake up with a morning paper and coffee without any demands!

I think visibility is the problem here. I now avoid the junction because I find it difficult to see traffic coming from the top end of Barry Rd when driving out from the LL end of Underhill. This is not a matter of skill or ability of the driver (especially in my case!;-). A set of traffic lights would not go amiss.

Possibly because I'm a little stressed with other things at the moment but I seem to have come up blank for ideas for a boy's 4th birthday party. Don't want JAGs or Peckham Soft Play (there have been plenty there already this birthday season). Would like something a little different and not too expensive. Prefer not to have it at home (fine if weather is good, gets a little hot and sweaty indoors if it rains). Any suggestions?

Baby seat isofix points: UK versus Australian use
EDmummy replied to skip's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks for clearing that up Ted. My brother always seemed to know what I was talking about when I discussed with him so assumed the terminology (and system) was the same. My brother usually borrows car seats from colleagues or we have hired them with cars so never had to worry about different systems. Won't stick my oar in again! -

Found this pdf from Aust Govt which uses the term 'anchorage'. The description would appear to be the same as isofix here. Good luck. -
Baby seat isofix points: UK versus Australian use
EDmummy replied to skip's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My brother in Sydney uses the term isofix and did have an Aussie car. We also caught lots of cabs who had then in their boots then fix them to an isofix point when you book. -
Baby seat isofix points: UK versus Australian use
EDmummy replied to skip's topic in The Family Room Discussion
How weird. Last time we were in NSW, 2002/3, they were definitely compulsory. Haven't been back there since but have been in WA and NT where I am afraid I cannot remember what we did for car seats. Have you tried contacting Aussie friends to find out what they do for car seats? Perhaps it differs in each state. -
Baby seat isofix points: UK versus Australian use
EDmummy replied to skip's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Don't worry, Skip. Isofix have to be used by law in Australia and it has been the case for over 8 years. I was horrified when I saw that they still used 3 point seat belts in this country. -
Gosh, Have to go for ANOTHER scan at Kings!
EDmummy replied to Dulwich Born And Bred's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I do think it is all about perspective. Two great, fantastic pregnancies, two babies struggling at birth. Nothing ever came up as a problem in my scans (2 with 1st, 3 with 2nd). Attempted to have first at home with home birth team until rushed to hospital with medical emergency - thank god for quick thinking, well trained medics - ended up with healthy, wonderful baby. Second time, opted for hospital birth after difficulties first time and experienced fantastic response by Kings team and baby was in absolute right place when he needed and required emergency treatment in special care. I love all the teams at Kings so much for their attention and support. HeidiHi, all of this will pale into insignificance once baby is born and develops into a loving child. I completely understand your concerns but I hope you can let it go and look forward to the many years to come. -
I live reasonably close to this junction and my husband gets annoyed when I go out of my way to avoid it (which is not always possible). I should think after this last accident a serious review of the junction should be done by the police and the road authorities (is this the council?). In the meantime, I really hope the moped driver is OK. Not sounding too good if helicopter was called. Poor lad.

Not sure why I am bothering but would like to try and raise the intellectual tone a bit because I really care about what is happening to our young people. The cause? Lots of well worn arguments about cause across all sectors interested in trying to stop this cycle of crime, injury and death. There is no magic wand. Young people having children before they have grown up themselves could be a major factor. That is not to point blame at this group - they are very often victims of emotional and other abuse from a young age. It is a very vicious cycle that many can not step off. Edited for spelling mistake (picked up before someone else does!)

I co-slept and breastfed both of mine on demand as a very natural response to each individual child (although baby no. 2 took to the bottle without fuss after spending time in Special Care - where they said I would "never get him on the breast now!")....and never, ever read GF (GF only just out when 1st was born and was old hand by the time of second). I am no hippy mother earth type but quickly caught on that in order to be close and loving to my children this approach was what my children responded to the best. I do feel that many mothers feel that their child should conform to their lives which makes me sad although I would NEVER criticise another mother's approach - god knows we get blamed for enough things (see thread on the attack on LL). And...I once met Fuschia (you bought my breastfeeding chair).

Swine Flu at St John's & St Clement's School
EDmummy replied to Bellenden Jo's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Please, unless you are a health professional please don't comment on the medical aspects of this infection! Misinformation and rumours can cost lives!! R&A, just for the record the lady who died in Glasgow had underlying health problems (stroke in her mid-30s) in conjunction with being pregnant. Women do not have "lower immune" systems during pregnancy but changed immune systems - fight bacterial infections better, less well at fighting viral infections. If anyone has any questions about symptoms, risks and treatments please refer to this website. -
attempted mugging - North Cross Road
EDmummy replied to myrmidon's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
In those bleak days before the Forum I believe just as many incidents occurred - the only difference - it used to be a yellow board that told you something had occurred. That is not to say that everyone should always be aware of their own personal safety as you would if you lived in a big city anywhere.
