Shame most of these school sites are so small! Growing up, my primary school had loads of open space and I feel immense guilt looking at the lack of open space my children have.

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
EDmummy replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Does it really offend you that much, Mamora Man? Not everybody will feel consoled by exhibiting their grief in this way but some will. Have you never been to Italy? These types of shrines can be found everywhere and offer comfort to some and a warning to others. Ignore it and let others feel comfort by it. -
Thanks squiggles, I get that. Just wondering where this extra yr 1, yr 2 etc class will go when the school has already got rid of it's art class because of the need for classrooom space. Perhaps there is a broom closet they are not using.

Without condoning their behaviour in any way (I've seen it!), Princess, you did know there was a school across the road when you moved in;-) I am still struggling to envisage where the extra 30 kids are going to be placed. There are two classrooms which have open access to a play area and as I understand it, access to open playground is a must for reception provision. Where will the 3rd classroom be? Also, where will the children from the bulge class be placed once they move on up through the school? Will it only be a bulge for one year?

It is going to be a squeeze! Hope the quality of the education is not affected by this and that the promise of additional funds over the next few years is not compromised should there be a change of council and/or govt. There must be reassurances but I am not sure they can be guaranteed from one financial year to another. I am hoping I am wrong. Playgrounds are going to be a bit fun at drop off/pick up time!!

Good Nursery's and Schools in SE22
EDmummy replied to charlotte endacott's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Nelly's 1 in Dulwich or Nelly's 2 in West Dulwich. We have had children at Nelly's 1 for over 7 yrs and have found it fantastic. Waiting lists can be long, though. -
Were the birds quieter this morning as a result of not having to compete with the planes or was it my imagination?

Abdominal separation ! any top tips for labour !?
EDmummy replied to Vangough's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Gosh, that sounds awful. Poor you. Sadly, I cannot offer any advice but it might be useful to talk over your concerns with your HV or Doctor if you have not already done so. They may have more information on your birthing options. One thing I would say is that you probably need to manage your expectations now rather than when you are about to give birth. My much wanted first home birth went terribly wrong and I ended up in hospital, I felt such a failure and became very depressed for some time afterwards. The second time around I approached the birth with a much less narrower view so when I again ended up in hospital I was not disappointed and was just thankful that my baby was healthy (after a small stay in ICU). Good luck. -
Being woken up at 3am every morning by Great Tits and Coal Tits! Bl***y annoying!! On the brighter side, saw a lovely collared dove on Overhill the other day.

Advice needed - forceps recovery!
EDmummy replied to born&brED's topic in The Family Room Discussion
It has been incredibly interesting to hear from the professional end of this discussion. Thank you very much SBryan and sillywoman. I really hope that this information/advice helps other expectant mothers. I was pleased that my midwife (Oakwood) helped me stick to my guns as I healed superbly even though I did end up having two 3rd degree tears. I am perhaps one of the lucky ones to have no lasting effects. SBryan, you advice about pelvic floor exercises is spot on! -
Perhaps someone needed an ambulance ;-)

Advice needed - forceps recovery!

But ventouse without > episiotomy was definitly not offered - must > remember to write no episiotomy in my birth plan > next time! Veryseriousgirl, I was not "offered anything" but demanded not to have an episiotomy for both of my ventouse deliveries. This decision was supported by my midwife. I did not have an opportunity to discuss my choice with the doctors beforehand as both were emergency procedures so as soon as I heard them say they were going to do an episiotomy I shouted my preference for a tear. Maybe things have changed in the last few years. -
Might need to have balls that a slightly weighted. Not sure how normal ones would cope with the wind. So, who in the council thought this was a good use of budget?

Oh God, poor you. I cannot believe something like this can happen during daylight hours in a residential area. This guy is a complete sicko and the police must have some knowledge about who he is. Hopefully he may be someone they are aware of through the register kept for people who have previously committed these sorts of crimes. They better get this guy before he does anything more serious (no intention to lessen what he has already done!). My thoughts are with you. You are probably still in shock and may find that it hits you in a few days time. Please speak to Victim Support if you can. If they are not able to offer you support and advice they may be able to signpost you to another organisation who can.

Advice needed - forceps recovery!
EDmummy replied to born&brED's topic in The Family Room Discussion
To clarify my post, I knew you needed an episiotomy for forceps but both of my ventouse births were delivered without this procedure. I stated clearly each time that I wanted to tear and not be cut and the doctors allowed this to happen. I am so sorry you all had such a bad time. -
Advice needed - forceps recovery!
EDmummy replied to born&brED's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Poor you. It may take a few more months but it will all feel normal soon! I am surprised about the number of episiotomies mentioned by others here. I had been told by my midwife that it was much better to tear than to cut as the tissue mends better. Two tears, both 3rd degree, and back to normal within a month or so. Was never going to be able to avoid this happening as both babies were whoppers (9lb and 10lb). -
7 month old baby water v. milk question
EDmummy replied to Lochie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Lochie, they all dribble it out at the beginning. If baby is breastfed then drinking from a beaker is a whole new experience to get used to. -
I suffered particularly badly with growing pains when young so when my children complain I have absolute sympathy and get out the Neurofen (not without checking for any glint in the eye that happens when they are telling porkies).

4-5 yr old boys are the most wonderful! My almost 5 yr old tells me how beautiful I look/smell, loves to help and copes with his own car sickness by singing Abba or Michael Jackson songs to himself. He hasn't quite managed skipping in the conventional way.

Ooops...correction. It was a bubasling that we used so successfully for so long. Really loved this sling. I had heard that Babybjorn was not suitable for very young children for long periods of time because of the pressure they put on the developing spine but a quick internet search has found that this is not based on any valid research.

Surprised that you both had trouble with the Huggabub. We used baby bjorn until baby had good neck stability then it was huggabub on the side from them on. Never used it in the baby lying position but was especially good for feeding when out. Used it until baby No. 2 was about 3 yrs old. Best buy ever.

New Parking Restrictions East Dulwich Road
EDmummy replied to suzyq's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks for sorting out my confusion. Gosh, I can now imagine how annoying it must be then for this very narrow road to have restrictions. I do have a great deal of sympathy for those living along this road.
