A swan has been visiting Dulwich Park recently. It may be one of the siblings from Crystal Palace Park. It's lovely to see it but it looks very lonely without a mate.

Buses on diversion from Lordship Lane
tfwsoll replied to louisemurray's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Lordship Lane is open again....hopefully the buses will be running on their normal routes by tomorrow -
The contractors reckon the Townley/Heber junction will re-open tomorrow as single lane with temporary lights. Having watched several huge Morrison/M&S trucks having to reverse back up the road or turn round as they missed/ignored the road closed signs, it can't come soon enough.

The foreman says a length of pipe that looks like a post-war repair ruptured above where they are working.

Lordship Lane is closed again this morning so buses back on diversion.

Recommendation for catering for a party

Ambra's Kitchen is very good and local too! https://ambraskitchen.com/pages/catering -
Lordship Lane is open again although it's single lane through the temporary lights at Heber/Townley so the bus stops are still closed
-
Lordship Lane is still closed but I've noticed more large vehicles (including a couple of buses) coming down LL having to do 3 point turns as they can't turn into Heber Road. Aside from the night working, it's been much quieter without the lorries and boy racers.
-
They were working through Friday night and are on site today so hopefully the road will be open again soon. I watched a 185 full of passengers do a 3 point turn at the roadworks as the driver clearly didn't get the message about the road closure!
-
Lordship Lane is now completely closed to through traffic where the roadworks are so all traffic is going via Heber Road or Townley Road.

Thames Water were out there today but don't think they carried out any work. It started leaking before Xmas.

Pret A Manger coming to East Dulwich! (Now open)
tfwsoll replied to KateFord's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It has very little to do with independent coffee shops 'upping their game' to compete. A lot of independent coffee shops buy their coffee from roasters who support small, independent growers who use sustainable farming methods. That's why their coffee will cost more. -
Egyptian goose attacked by dog off lead in Peckham park
tfwsoll replied to staplemeg's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The Egyptian goose family are still in the pond, minus the adult male. -
A pair of Greylag geese with 5 or 6 goslings were by the lake this morning in ED Park.

That's great to hear. I know that Egyptian geese are considered an invasive species but didn't realise it was illegal to rescue them! Does the same go for Canada geese? -

I wondered where the other parent was. I hope it recovers as it's been a real pleasure watching them over the past few months. I recently told someone whose dog went for the goslings that his dog shouldn't be off the lead. His answer was that the dog had never done it before but sadly it only takes one incident to maim or kill. We are extremely lucky to have open green spaces with an abundance of wildlife locally and dog owners should avoid areas where the wildfowl are breeding or keep them on a lead. -
They certainly are invasive according to most of the studies I have seen. They nest in existing tree cavities, which has an impact on smaller native birds. They also dominate supplementary food sources in the winter months - I know that they attack smaller birds that come my feeders.

I know that nature isn't always cute and cuddly but the parakeets are an invasive species and a pest. I used to love them as they are so striking and intelligent but the novelty has worn off.
-
I've seen a flock of parakeets attacking a comorant in flight above Brockwell Park and Sunray Gardens. I think they are just aggressive pests. >>>I saw about a dozen parakeets buzzing/strafing a heron on one side, with a crow doing likewise on the other, about 150 feet up near to Village Square??I had seen a crow doing the same to a heron seated high up in a tree in Peckham Rye, near the lake. Don't they get on or could it have been staking out nests, etc?

I go out for my walk around 7am and am still having to dodge into the road to avoid joggers or having them pass me very closely from behind. I should say that the majority are being considerate but it only takes one to infect you. As for the 2 meter rule, that is nowhere near enough according to thus study: https://medium.com/@jurgenthoelen/belgian-dutch-study-why-in-times-of-covid-19-you-can-not-walk-run-bike-close-to-each-other-a5df19c77d08

There is a big fire in a cafe on the Walworth Road and buses are on diversion. 176 and 40 turning right via Albany Park and looping back to E&C via Heygate Street. Traffic is very slow.

I'll check out the North Cross Road stall - thanks for the recommendation. I do understand that if there isn't a market for a product then a business isn't likely to survive. My point is that people were saying Burro and Salvo was overpriced, which would imply that they were comparing it with an equivalent product. The stuff they sell in supermarkets isn't fresh and I find it tasteless so I'll go back to dried pasta. In a world in which people are increasingly relying on food banks I count myself lucky that I could treat myself. PS DulwichFox freshly made pasta needs to dry out for an hour or so before cooking otherwise it will turn to mush.
