  1. This is a good watch https://www.facebook.com/814966608530843/posts/3532354170125393/?vh=e
  2. Let?s overlook the Cheltenham races, overcrowded tubes, packed beaches, packed parks, queuing for ice cream, coffee, VE celebrations! People haven?t been social distancing for a fair while. At least this is for a worthwhile cause. Furthermore most people were wearing masks unlike those on the beaches/VE celebrations.
  3. Thank you for understanding. It?s the only way to (hopefully) move forward by ensuring every child from young are educated on their ancestors history factually, in order to be the generation that makes society a fairer and more tolerant place in the future. 4. My family are mixed heritages hence we are very passionate about racism, injustice and inequality. Again, my emphasis is on not treating people less than you or a non indigenous would like to be treated. Nothing to do with handing over land. It?s about not assuming your needs and rights outweighs theirs just because of race. Spartacus Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > And that's the paradox, your family are appalled > at the way the indigenous people are treated, yet > your very ancestors treated them badly and stole > the land from them in the first place and treated > them as second class. > > My comments aren't about actually giving the land > back but that there is a limit to how much people > are prepared to give to have true > equality.😱
  5. But people aren?t asking for their land back per se, they just want to stop being treated as if they are the immigrants when it?s been their home and their ancestors forever. My family in Australia are horrified by the way the indigenous people are treated and have been protesting but is a very real issue trying to get people to understand that no one owns the planet. We need to share and stop treating people like something they have just stepped in.
  6. Same as the ones packing out the beaches and the parks on hot days, no social distancing there either. uncleglen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > DulwichBorn&Bred Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Some guidelines if people do go: > > > https://metro.co.uk/2020/06/04/how-protest-safely- > > > pandemic-12803809/ > > Guidelines? 8. What is your point? We can?t highlight inequality at the same time? But we can celebrate VE? Queue to go to McDonald?s, Ikea, go to the beach etc but we can?t sign petitions. Really? https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/jun/05/reeks-of-hypocrisy-what-uks-minority-ethnic-mps-say-about-covid-19-death-toll Clutterqueen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > We are in the middle of a terrible Covid situation > with Britain having the most deaths.
  9. It?s shared in the family room because the petition is for families to put pressure on SCHOOLS to add more diversity in class so this is the right place. I?m a woman and a mother myself.
  10. Let?s start making changes by teaching our kids, they will be the generation that can make the important changes that we need, if they are taught from young the truth about our history. https://www.instagram.com/theblackcurriculum/

  12. Interesting the lack of comments, black squares are ok but no comments towards making a real change via education?
  13. And another petition if you please. Good way to get the kids in school to discuss, they would all be able to contribute to the discussion as part of their ongoing education. https://www.change.org/p/department-of-education-battle-racism-by-updating-reading-lists-at-gcse?recruiter=false&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=psf_combo_share_initial&utm_term=psf_combo_share_initial&recruited_by_id=5fb981b0-a460-11ea-bf6f-b53bdaea1b41 TheCat Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Blah Blah Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > The problem is Cat, that you have alluded to > open > > discussion being suppressed from white people, > but > > haven't given a single example and I would > still > > like you to list just who has been stopped from > > airing views on social media. 15. Sharing this incredible organisation, The Black Curriculum. A section of their website is below: "Currently, the national curriculum and exam board specifications are limited in providing Black British history. Furthermore, Black history is not mandatory in schools which follow their own curriculum. Without the resources, time and understanding, we are still going to face the same problems of historical inaccuracies, bias and a lack of enthusiasm in teaching and delivery. In the same manner, we can not simply rely on parents and carers to provide this material to young people. Black British history is not merely a theme for October, but started hundreds of years before Windrush and pre-dates European colonial enslavement. Our work aims to address and overcome these limitations by seeking to provide a contextual, globalised history that roots the Black British experience in histories of movement and migration - 365 days a year. We want to help prepare students to become fully rounded citizens and ready for an increasingly globalised world. Our curriculum is grounded in the arts for young people to engage with history imaginatively, encouraging student satisfaction and critical thinking skills. Through our holistic approach we aim to remedy a wider systemic issue." Changing the school curriculum would make a difference in the fight against systemic racism. All children need to learn about a diverse range of voices, histories and perspectives in school. If you could spare 2 minutes, please send an e-mail to Gavin Williamson - The Black Curriculum have written a fantastic template. Thank you! www.theblackcurriculum.com
