London Victoria had loads of delays/cancellations, I ended up catching the bus. Had a bit of a slide in car trying to reverse park on upland road but now home safe and sound!

Could anybody around ED today give an update so those of us not there know when/if we need to rush home? I'm concerned about getting the car down and parked on the residential side streets after the chaos of a couple of years ago..

Where do foxes go in the daytime??!
-
Baby sensory is great for the little ones!
-
Yes that's it, it's foxes! Directly under our window and shrieking for 10-15 minutes at a time ALL through the night! Is there anything we can do to make them go away?
-
Anyone else heard these really loud "howling" sounds over the last few nights? What are they? Where are they coming from? And how do we make it stop?! I'm knackered!

Have you tried contacting dulwich helpline? I known they're looking for volunteers at the mo http://www.dulwich-helpline.org.uk/volunteering.html

I don't know if its classed as a carol concert, but the horniman has a Christmas do next weekend and there's carol singing on the bandstand there at various times, info on their website.

I was going to suggest trying goats milk too, my 2 year old has been on it for about 6 months and I've noticed a definite "reduction!" I was brought up on goats milk (fresh from our own goats no less) which is the reason we put it on her on the first place, it's also rumoured to help with dry skin/eczema.

Very tempting, I've just got in my head how nice it would be for her to experience it all, the crackers and hats etc...though to be fair she's only 2 and probably won't remember a thing!

I'm doing our first one with toddler too this year, I was wondering about timings as I'd really like lo to experience her first sit down Xmas meal but she naps 1230-230.. Is 12 unrealistic for getting a whole Xmas meal ready?! If not I guess we'll go for 3 oclock but selfishly I was also hoping to use the nap time for a post eating coma myself!

Another thread on here got me thinking about this, especially as Christmas party season is nearly upon us. Anyone fancy joining a babysitting credit circle? The idea is basically taking it in turns to babysit (locally) for each other in return for credits. There's even a fancy website which can organise it all for free! http://www.thebabybank.com/ Let me know and I can sort. Here's to nights out! Emma

Best place to watch fireworks and when?
emza78 replied to Toby's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I don't know how many displays will be on around London tonight but last year we went to the top of dawson's hill and had an amazing panoramic view of all the fireworks in London! -
Any recommendations on which is best for my LO's 2nd birthday? She seems pretty interested in other kid's scooters but would be nice for her to learn the pedal action of a trike also - I'm torn! Or maybe just get both? It is nearly xmas too after all..

Major Works by Southwark Council...should I be worried?
emza78 replied to sedm's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We've just had major works in our block, if southwark decides it needs doing and youre a leaseholder you have no choice but to pay. They do offer some payment plans if this makes a difference to you? Spread over 3 years interest free, there is a 25 year option but you need equity in the property so probably wouldn't apply to a new purchase. We also had a letter through saying they wouldn't do any more major works for the next 5 years now. I think bills for tens of thousands of pounds are quite rare and probably only apply if there's a new lift etc being installed? Don't quote me though! -
Hi, We've just had a new bathroom fitted and need to get rid of the old suite, has anyone been through this this and found the best way? Just been told southwark bulky waste won't collect and don't really have the means to transport to the dump. Thanks

Fun things for kids to do in central London
emza78 replied to emza78's topic in The Family Room Discussion
That's it! Thanks -
Dear all, There was a thread on here about 6ish months ago I think regarding fun places to take kids in central London, one place came recommended a few times but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called - I think it was around Clerkenwell area and was a large green space with a playground (possibly a farm?) Thanks in advance, extensive historic searches are proving fruitless! X

Hi, Does anyone have the latest on whether this is actually open? I've tried googling but can't get to the bottom of it, looks like maybe it's been scrapped?

Holiday tips for Pollenca, Majorca
emza78 replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Ooh yes we went there in June, it's beautiful and perfect for kids. On our last night we caught a little show on the main square for kids, characters dressed up on stilts etc and ended in a little parade. I think it was on every night, around 8pm, definitely worth checking out! The restaurants are all very child friendly which was convenient as we have a very active 18 month old! Best tapas we had was one of the restaurants on pine walk which runs along the beach, I forget the name but they also did ice cream outside, the last restaurant on the left if you're looking at the beach. Also nice cocktails at a bar which juts into the water, think it was part of hotel Bahia, we managed to have a whole one each in quite a civilised manner before LO got bored and it was time to move on! Enjoy! -
Early learning - free nursery hours - how does it work?
emza78 replied to rebeccaben's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I was under the impression that private nurseries had to apply for this from the council and pass some criteria before they could offer the free 15 hours? -
My next question was going to be how to cope with a non-napping toddler?! She is not a fan of "quiet time" of any kind, gets bored with books etc. Also, how early is too early for bedtime if there's no nap? I caught her rubbing eyes at 6pm last time but thought to myself surely that must be too early.. then I probably missed the window.. then she got overtired.. sigh!

My 21 month old has always struggled to go down for naps but for the last 6 months or so has been pretty good, going down happily just after lunch for 1.5/2 hours. Lately though she is not into this nap at all. At nursery (3 days a week) she will still nap for 1.5 hours around 1ish but at home it?s an impossible task. I wonder if she?s just ready to drop all naps altogether? Apparently my siblings and I all dropped all naps by 18 months.. On nursery days when she does nap she then won?t go to bed until 9pm which in my opinion (and for our own sanity) is too late! I then find I have to wake her every morning at 730 and she?s still tired. Just looking for some advice really, I think she?ll have to carry on having the nap at nursery as that?s what they do, although they have offered to wake her after 45 minutes/1 hour ? I feel wrong doing this though as think if she?s sleeping she must need it?Perhaps I should try keeping her up at home 4 days a week.. except then I find if we go out in buggy or car in the afternoon she drops off, but then as this nap is too late she?s up till late at night again, aaah!
