  1. Not the 'Bull McCabe', but close enough. Well done and top marks for knowing who the Bull is. McCabe.
  2. Missed the last one so this one is in the diary..... thanks Muckers for the reminder on Saturday. Will join you guys, Dom, Katie & Lady D for a couple of early swifties - Also, will let the rest of the team know too. Good Job! McCabe.
  3. Harry, feel free to come along to our Sunday Cycle group - its FREE! The main thread is on 'Whats on in ED', but in short we cover typically 30-miles on a Sunday morning, and once a month (like yesterday) we did 60-miles, with the option of taking a train back at certain locations. We wait at the top of hills for the rest of the team (as we take it at an easy pace), and once out of Croydon, we take to the lanes. Mountain Bikes & Road bikes - all ages, all abilities attend. 9-15am start on Sunday mornings, meeting at the Dulwich Tollgate / College Road..... the first 5-mins is up to Crystal Palace. As a bit of fun yesterday, we decided to ride up Box Hill on the way back from Gatwick. And I agree with Moos, lights and bright clothing even during the day during low light / drizzle or rain. McC
  4. hey guys, ECG doesn't do it naked, but the rides are varied. We did Farthing Downs on Sunday, then the longer riders headed off to Reigate. If you want to ride, the cold days for some of those on the thread have long gone..... even the rain this Sunday had zero impact on the riders. And the Reds keep cycling on! PLH
  5. This time next week! Take out pizza etc......! PLH
  6. Ouch! Toes falling off :-( Good point on the water shower! There will be a bunch of us at the 7.5-mile point....as you go through Deptford there will be a massive turn-out with music etc.... as you go through we will be just up the road on the LHS, we will be by the Fire Station. Best, McCabe
  7. OK, I started the thread so I'll make the first comment. If its your first event, take it easy and enjoy it! Consider the after event, make sure you have a good gentle stretch at the end - your muscles, tendons and ligaments deserve it! You probably won't have much of an apetite for a number of hours, but have something ready in the fridge - in other words, do the prep work in advance.... even if its a microwave ready meal. Fill your ice containers so they are ready when you get it. In the week leading up, check the current advice on how long to apply ice indirectly (put them into a bag, then roll in a tea towel around it etc..). McCabe PLH
  8. Marathon Runners of EDF 1-week of training to go, so go light and gentle! Good Carb loading, and no sugar rush.... I made that mistake many many years ago before a hilly 1/2 Marathon. What are you doing to prepare for the week leading up to the Marathon? * Food * Drink * Training * A ban on S#X? After the event * Massage * Ice bath * Developmental stretches c.30-sec only to release the latic acid * Food & drink Please share, and good luck next Sunday! McCabe PLH
  9. Mazza! What a super idea! PLH will support you 100%, and as its a triathlon maybe we should do something around your event? BRUM, that will be on our list too. We have never heard of this charity and will slot it into one of our FREE events. A number of us will be outside the Deptford Fire Station for the London Marathon. Where are you based....? McCabe PLH
  10. Sunday 22nd May - put it in your Diary! This ride covers 95% of the London Marathon, and its your opportunity to taste the runners run! This is a pilot event that is limited to c.75, so you need to respond pretty quick! Further, you need to be part of the FREE ECG cycle group so we know you are fit enough. Interested?! Please respond.
  11. Thank you 'O', I will contact Underhill Road tomorrow. Super! PLH
  12. Do you know anyone who is partially sighted or blind in the E'Dulwich area? Many 5Km, marathon and triathlon places are taken by partially sighted and blind people who are assisted with a buddy. PLH would like to get a small team together who may or may not have taken part in such activities and give them the opportunity to aspire and achieve! Once we have received a number of responses, we will hold a consultation to establish the key components of what the aspirations are and use that as a 'Starting Point'. Thank you, PLH
  13. Good Job! Will advise my colleague, he is 6th Dan and will be over the moon! McCabe PLH
  14. Hyde Park tomorrow, 9am Goose Green Texaco Garage. This is a flat ride, 5.5-miles to Hyde Pk, and 5.5-miles around followed by a coffee! McC
  15. Might be..... I understand there is restoration work at Toad Hall, He's a rather busy person, but will communicate. McC
  16. Best do! If you look at Nadia Sawalha, Julia had her shaped up in 3-months and with a tiny waist! Infact, they are doing the London Marathon this year. And if you met Lorraine acouple of weeks back on the Rye fitness group, she lost 3-stone! So beware, Julia will have you lunging to the bar and doing tri dips at the bar. Honestly, she is so grounded and funny - she will talk about anything but exercise unless you ask :-) McCabe
  17. Lady Muck, Hibbs & Mazza.....Cathy...Guy? Well done for today! Julia & I will be joining you guys on Friday, as Hibbs knows, becareful as Julia may have all your drinks group doing lunges & squats in between rounds! I hope I don't get a reputation as the ECG (E'dulwich Cycle Group) will be in the EDF the evening before on Thursday planning the next lot of rides. Looking forward to meeting the rest of your team! McCabe PLH
  18. ECG (E'dulwich Cycle Group) River Wandle ride: Easy going ride This Sunday we are heading to Morden Hall Park, one of key area's where the River Wandle was used to power the local Mill. Its a great ride with and equally good stopping point for a spot of tea / coffee in their team rooms. When: Sunday 6th Feb Where: 9am Goose Green Texaco garage.,
  19. Hi Ms_Lilith, Yes, LOL me too! Commmunication is so important, high level expressions are fine but not if nobody knows what it means. Whether one participates for a power walk, jog, cycle ride or a standard walk the endorphins start spinning within a few minutes. Best, McCabe
  20. G'day Peckhamgatecrasher, Reflected on your comment and changed the Subject bar. Within the healthcare profession an 'exit strategy' relates to the positive progression after treatment. But..... good catch anyway! McCabe PLH
  21. Patient 'Exit Strategy' (Returning back to a Health & Wellbeing activity) Project London Health are looking for GP and Healthcare surgeries that want to provide a FREE patient 'Exit Strategy' in health & wellbeing. This also applies to community halls & other social groups. PLH have 4-specific groups that meet in E'dulwich on Saturdays & Sundays: Fitness in the Park, Parents & buggies, Walk & Talk and easy cycling. Regular updates are fed into S'wark Council and the Primary Care Trust; we would like to expand these health and wellbeing schemes to include more of the local community. If this is of interest to your surgery, please email PLH at [email protected] (Active-Healthy-Mind) and a poster for your board will be emailed back to you. Who attends? We have doctors, nurses, healthcare professionals, prenatal, post natal, parents with buggies, those getting back to exercise, diabetics, in remission, fibromyalgia and the list continues; all of which want to improve their fitness level or to help tone their body. About the Groups They can all be found on the EDF 'Whats on in ED' & 'Family Classified' Fitness in the Park: Sat @ 10am, 1-hour of relaxed CV, toning & stretching Parents & Buggies: Sat @ 10am, 1-hour of the above with varied abilities. ECG E'dul Cycle Grp: Sun @ 9am, c.15 ~ 25 miles on mountain / leisure bikes around London (every other Sunday) Walk & Talk: Sat @ 11am, 1 hour of local casual walking (due to start in the coming weeks). 22. Happy New Year to all! The ECG (E'dulwich Cycle Group) starts again next Sunday, 10am meeting at Goose Green Texaco. The first ride will be very easy along the Thames, just a couple of hours to get those joints & muscles back to shape. This group is FREE. Also, if you are feeling guilty about those extra pounds over Christmas, the Fitness in the Park restarts next Saturday on the Rye, meeting at the Caf? for 10am. Its completly FREE and aimed at powerwalkers, joggers, with some stretching, toning and Chi Gung exercise thrown in too at the end. See you there on either Sat, Sun or both. McCabe.
  23. If you go to 'Whats on in E'dulwich' you will see FREE! Fitness in your Park. This contains powerwalkers, joggers and runners - working together, they meet at 10am on Saturdays at the Rye, or contact [email protected]. There will be a 2.5Km & 5Km on the Rye for February, so you have an event to focus on. In this group, you will work your way up from zero to the level you aspire to. Tuesday evenings Loulou takes a FREE jogging / running group which meets at the bottom of the Rye. If you are looking for a Personal Fitness Trainer, I can recommend a lady who works in Schools, outdoor groups and trains celebs for events or getting ready for filming. One of her clients has Fibromyalgia and have been training together, starting for her first 5Km last year, then increased to a 10Km and completed a 1/2 marathon in september. For 2011, Project London Health will be setting up specific 5Km, 10Km & 20Km (1/2 marathon) trials....... I hope this helps PLH
  24. BTW, VeryBerryCherry, brilliant! Your comments and quotes are super! Best, McCabe
  25. Lets all be Frank! Click on the link to aim and inspire for in life: If you get to this chaps age, and achieved what he did at 90, then we should all have what he drinks too! Yet, this is still only but a portion of 'Life's' tapestry. Best, McCabe
