It's the front roof and rear (but not the ground floor extension or loft box)

It's a standard Victorian terrace up and over with a rear loft extension and rear roof. Here's a Google Earth image

Hi - we are being quoted for a new roof and want to sense check any quotes. Has anyone had a Victorian terrace roof replaced recently and could share the rough costs, please?

Our wool stair carpets have taken a battering over the years what with small kids and home improvements. I had them cleaned a few years ago by someone recommended on here and I ended up several hundred pounds lighter with damp carpets that smelt of wet dog that weren't any cleaner to the naked eye. Carpets are pricey and they've only been down 6 years, so before I look at replacing them I was wondering if anyone had any more success with carpet cleaning?

where to go for an adventurous summer holiday??
bobby's bear replied to HannahSE23's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We went to Sri Lanka last August with our then 4 and 6 year olds and totally loved it. It was tropical and exciting but still easy travelling and the food was amazing. On the whole the weather was great, we saw a little rain but the majority of the time it was hot and sunny. However even booking the flights 9 months in advance we paid over ?3k for the four of us to fly direct (might be cheaper if you are happy to stop over en route) which eats a lot of your budget. -
My wallet was stolen in the EDT last night about 10pm. The cards were used in the co-op before I cancelled them. There's an outside chance it was then ditched so if anyone finds a blue square purse in the lordship lane area containing the usual library cards / picture house membership etc then PM me. Thanks

Holiday clubs for the end of August/early Sept

The Gowlett - noise abatement
bobby's bear replied to mancity68's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks Renata, That might make a lot of sense because surely if any issue is to do with the licencing hours or the fact it is a pub then it is a licencing issue rather than a noise abatement issue. In fact this would be an abuse of the noise abatement powers. I know there was a private party there over Easter but that's not normal. The Gowlett is great place and has offered something very different from other places here for many years so it is important to protect. It would be heart breaking and negative if this was a straight forward case 9f someone moving next to a pub amd complaining that the pub is there. Both y -

I was wondering if anyone else who is trying to apply for a sibling reception place is having a similar problem when trying to complete the form. Basically when I select my 1st choice school and then tick the sibling box I am directed to enter the sibling?s details. The dropdown box from which I am supposed to choose the sibling's school says 'no school available' which means I can't enter a school which means I can't save or submit the application. I am finding this very frustrating and have gone round and round with the council and the e-admissions technical support neither of which seem to be able to help me!! I am assuming it's a problem with the site as the school drop down box isn't populating with data, but if that's so then I assume others will be having this problem too hence my post!

Suggestions for living in house during building works...
bobby's bear replied to MM22's topic in The Lounge
We're currently 4 months into it with two pre schoolers and I'd echo the posts above. We waited until Spring to start which means we can have picnic lunches and teas in the park and happily eat cold food sometimes. Downside is we have no garden to play in / dry clothes. Couldn't imagine going through it in the winter. -
Feedback on the gumboots after school club
bobby's bear posted a topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi there, I was hoping for some feedback / thoughts on the after school club runnning at the Darrell Rd Community Center as I am considering it as an after school option for my daughter when she starts reception in September but know nothing about it!! Thanks in advance -
We are thinking about a habitat kitchen but can find no reviews on line so I was wondering if anyone had a habitat kitchen and could give me some feedback. Thanks in advance

Side Return - ground floor layout advice
bobby's bear replied to lucy_n's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We are starting ours soon and have decided to keep the two entrances as I worried that if we shut off the access from the hall it would make the dining room end of our lounge a glorified corridor to the kitchen. I envision the dining room end will become a playroom for the kids with easy open access down into the kitchen from it. But we'll see!! -
We used an excellent childminder called Lorraine, she's based off Nunhead lane, so about a 15 min walk from ED. We live near Goose Green but felt she was worth the walk as both of my children really thrived under her care. She can be contacted on 07535 038050 Good luck

I am also following this with interest as what impressed me most about GG was the head. Given that the turn around has been relatively recent and under her stewardship I feel anxious about the future of ongoing success / improvement without her there. I also understand that there are not loads of primary heads floating about waiting for a job so also worry about what might happen if the post remains unfilled as has happens a lot across London We are in the process of choosing primary schools for September and had set our minds on Goose Green but are now left feeling very uncertain! So others thoughts welcome!

I used a fantastic child minder called Lorraine for three years to look after both my girls and I am a big fan of the home from home environment that the right child minder gives a young child. Lorraine provided both my children with excellent care and attention and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her. She is based off Nunhead lane, an easy 20 min walk from East Dulwich. There is parking on her street and she is near Nunhead station for travel into town. We felt she was worth travelling for! She can be contacted on 07535 038050 or PM me for more info.

We have had nothing but good service and advice from Bells. We were delighted with the bathroom they helped us choose both in quality and price.

Canary Island reccomendation
bobby's bear replied to bobby's bear's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We really liked the playa flamingo part of playa blanca on Lanzerote. Playa Flamingo is a lovely quiet beach with a board walk with lots of little restaurants. We stayed in a James Villa's villa, can't remember it's name sorry. The Playo Flamingo resort (thomas cook I think) looked nice too, just behind the beach. Lots of easy outings from there, make sure you get up to wineries!! -
