  1. It is appalling and has been going on for years. I'm certain that there's no engineering on this line. Its just a thinly veiled excuse to not have a service, for whatever reason . You don't have this kind of disruption for 5 years with frequent whole weekend shutdowns on most other lines. People in our area obviously don't complain enough.
  2. i could rant all day about this topic........ many a weekend looking forward to having a nice pint and lunch in herne hill or east dulwich pubs then having it thoroughly spoilt by screaming babies and toddlers at the bar, and ignorant parents. extremely annoying.
  3. these people are animals . wrecking the peace of our city. it's a blight. what on earth is wrong with them.
  4. The Dog has gone seriously downhill in the last year or so - not sure if there's been a change of ownership or management but the food is now appalling, it used to be just about passable - great waste, partic for what could be such a great place in the village. Very sad state it is in at the mo. maybe this will improve things. A sensitive, not corporate makeover is required.
  5. we just installed one of these. http://www.shieldsecuritydoors.co.uk/ with that, and secure locks on aluminim framed double glazing, its hard for anyone to get in.
  6. the only way to make your doors really safe from burglary is to buy a proper security rated door. we have a Shield security door. it cost lots but really gives peace of mind - bolts shoot out on all sides, the locks are undrillable and withstand battering with axes and jamming crowbars etc. that, combined with aluminium framed double glazing with proper security locking systems makes me feel safe , although 100% security is never possible. on the continent people put security shutters on their windows, its not a uk tradition but that may also help. to make your house super secure against burglary sadly costs thousands if you live in an older property without existing measures but if you think how much houses cost nowadays and the potential damage that can be done to possessions, fixtures and fittings it is perhaps worth spending some money.
  7. looters know police are stretched and doing it deliberately where there are no cops.
  8. where are you & which way are the youths going?
  9. i think it would be a great idea to get people doing this around tree pits. it does seem to happen in parts of london, someone mentioned Islington, have also seen it around Kew. Great idea and not much work if you plant fairly hardy plants. yes they may get bottles and rubbish chucked around them from time to time the parade of shops up norwood road from herne hill has seen a lot of planting around the tree pits. the local traders are fab and have really softened this area which once seemed very cold and urban. thinking of doing it around the tree pits at the bottom of our road. maybe its something to be done in Springtime to get a good display in summer.
  10. i thought it was just southern gas works doing their thing of digging up most of south london at the moment. Is it related to the bus crash? how can a bus crash mean they have to dig up all the roads?
  11. PS I think the delays often happen on Sundays due to the route going through Clapham Junction and the congestion on Battersea rise. Perhaps there could be a fast route which went around this?!
  12. countdown timers at the bus stops would be great .there was a consultation locally ( by a prospective parliamentary candidate) before the last election and i think many people would appreciate countdown timers if TFL could do this. It's an OK ish service and great that it is 24 hours, but we could do with a 10 minute service all day and every 20 mins overnight, rather than the half hour after 11pm as is currently the case.
  13. the trouble is, get controlled parking in place, free to begin with, and 5 years down the line residents permits are ?200 a year. has happened all over london.
  14. you could get the council & police to declare it a dispersal zone where no more than 3 youths are allowed to congregate at once. they are quite effective.
  15. I also like Dulwich Tandoori and always come away stuffed and happy. A little further away, Babur in Honor Oak Park is an absolute must and one of the best curry houses in the UK. i've had a few curries in Brick Lane, and always wanted to enjoy them, but always been disappointed and left feeling ripped-off, with small portions, high prices, etc which is a real shame.
  16. i think everyone knows this isnt about graffiti art but horrible tagging and slogans - that's what people object to.

  18. i used Lordship Lane carpets last year & found them & their customer service absolutely appalling, really disappointed as we wanted to "go local" but will never use them again. they really messed us about, got loads of things wrong and we had to chase constantly for anything to get done. they treated us like they were doing us a favour, bad service, bad attitude & bad value for money.
  19. it's the usual thing. the first warm sunny weather and all the great unwashed come out & litter everywhere. Brockwell Park was the same. some of it is down to overflowing bins. much of it is just anti social littering by uneducated trash who's own homes are probably in a similar state. it will be ok in a week or two, the novelty of first spring warmth will have worn off & they'll be back to watching Trisha & Sky Sports (bank holidays excepted).
  20. There does seem to be a spate of muggings at the moment in the area. It is disgusting, and whilst it is always advisable in a big city like London for people not to flash expensive equipment around, it says a lot about the state of our country that such violent robberies ( which is what they are) are becoming so common place. Sad.
  21. cycle every time. takes 20 mins to the thames then another 10 or 15 to ox circus.
  22. there seem to be quite a few burglaries at the moemnt. Have the theies generally taken advantage of single glazed / sash windows, or broken down doors etc? Bit worrying.

I'm staggered by how offensive some > of the posts on this thread have been. and i am quite staggered how naive some people are about the realities of inter generational social problems in London i say again, 13 year old lads dont just go out tooled up with a gun without there being big issues at home, the like of which most genteel EDFers can't even start to imagine. The calls of "racist" at me & others are laughable.

Yes but it does seem to be pretty much all black teenagers who are stabbing and killing each other. Its hard to deny this. Certainly doesnt make it racist to point it out and it does raise questions . your post smacks of defensiveness to be honest ok there are problems in all communities but a lot of young lost boys in the black community and i think the community needs to examine why this is the case and try and act to stop it, rather than somehow deny it & blame it on white racism.

I bet you ?1000 the murderers and victim came from highly disfunctional, disadvantaged backgrounds with a history of big trouble and probably parents and relatives doing time for all manner of crime and well known to the police. You don't accidentally become a thirteen year old waging war with a gun whikst skipping between piano lessons and speech and drama classes, onr a 15 year old ready to knife another teenager to death with a mob. Honestly , these predictable, head in the samnd responses are just laughable and deny the reality of this lost generation of young men. i want to mean well too and don't want to automatically "assume" a detailed profile of the killers and victims when i hear stories like this about the east dulwich murder. It's just that 95% of the time, the profile is correct. as someone else posted they rarely fall outside this profile of the underclass.
