  1. An idea what happens when these traffic measures are proven in court to have been illegally implemented ? I'm assuming that the councils that get caught out won't be rushing to issue refunds.

I believe that their 'logic' is all the massive lorries, juggernauts, multi-trailer vehicles that routinely use and speed down this and other local roads (according to Nigello et al) will not slow down for the bumps and this in turn will shake their homes to pieces. It's all very tinfoil and flat earth. Not sure why they couldn't just renew the red ones they had before. More delays for the emergency services and no doubt the same people will complain about that. Good to see that Southwark are spending our millions wisely. Resurfacing apparently on Melbourne Grove so the road is even smoother for all the darlings to cycle on. SMH.

This tells you all you need to know about Southwark and the lobbyists that they support. What an insane waste of money.
  4. According to a resident I spoke to earlier, Upland Road is being resurfaced in order to replace the smaller (emergency vehicle friendly) red speed bumps with the old style 'sleeping policeman' that runs kerb to kerb. Seems though that 'some' residents are more worried about the potential damage that traffic passing over these sleeping policemen will cause to their homes (& house prices 'natch) than speedy access for the emergency services. LAS must think that all of Dulwich has gone stark raving mad.

Why do this after the schools have just gone back? This is most definitely a theme with Southwark. They skew the playing field to meet their objectives. Look at the Court Lane/DV junction roadworks. It made the junction worse but when even that wasn't enough to get the 'data' they wanted several people incl some on here predicted that they'd have another crack at it; they did just that. By removing the priority of traffic crossing into Court Lane, they manufactured a bottle neck and lo and behold the junction was jammed up with the slightest hint of traffic. If memory serves it took 3 cars to block the junction at this point. The cost to Southwark residents for this? Phase 1 was >?1.5 million. Not sure on Phase 2 and then the closure of the junction but I'd say north of ?2 million. The geography of Dulwich only allows 3 routes through it - South Circ, DV and Herne Hill. Take one away and you add at least 50% additional traffic to those routes (unless people are swapping their cars for unicorns). Then all it takes is a set of road works, an accident and you have gridlock. The week after they closed Court Lane, a motorcyclist was knocked off his bike at the junction of LL & Overhill so LL was shut coming through from the South Circ. It was carnage and a glimpse of what was to come. If we the residents of Southwark could see it coming then there's no excuse for Southwark to not. Perhaps if Southwark councillors spent less time on Twitter berating local business owners like Franklins and the Melbourne Grove businesses, they'd have more time to do their jobs properly,

The very "vocal minority" they claim there is no data to prove exists..!! Also, just how short sighted are these people?? Life in (the already highly afluent and leafy) DV has been improved. How did they ever manage before (clutches pearls..) The disconnection between them and us is like something out of a Victorian nightmare.

People like my late partner. Remember the old maxim: If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

The GPS systems used by hauliers 'usually' default to roads only suitable for HGV's, much like on Waze you can choose car/cycle/walk routes. I've seen John Lewis vans etc and the odd delivery of steel for extensions or loft conversions but never anything bigger than that. Not saying that once in a blue moon you don't get the odd driver of anything bigger trying to take an ill advised short cut but I wouldn't say it was a regular thing (source: resident for nearly 30 years)
  9. The contempt that Nigello has for Goodrich School, its staff and pupils is pretty repugnant. Why is it that all these pro road closures, pro LTN etc are such vile individuals??
  10. How many refits has this place had over the last 5 years? This is the third?
  11. And thanks to Southwark closing roads with massive planters, they have plenty of escape routes where the Police couldn't follow even if they did turn up. Win/Win.
  12. So, that's just more traffic pushed onto Upland Road? How very Southwark. I walk my kids to and from school and they go through the gates on Upland Road. Genius. I'm not defending parents who need or choose to drive their kids to school (one classmate is driven from Dawsons Heights every morning and afternoon!) but this is just nonsense and will directly affect the children using Upland Road. Is there no one in Southwark's traffic planning division that knows what the f**k they're doing??
  13. Not sure who specifically you'd need to see but http://www.thevalepractice.co.uk/ do a whole range of treatments for mums and mums to be.
  14. There?s been an accident on the corner of Lordship Lane and Overhill Road. The Lane is closed between the South Circular (as far as I can tell) and Court Lane.
  15. This (see attached) is the way Cllr Peter John OBE of Southwark treats his constituents and their businesses.

No. It?s paid for by taxes that we all pay and drivers especially so. For free? That?s your most cretinous one yet.

Sounds like an urban legend in the making.
  19. Had a postie knock on the door twice in 10 minutes yesterday with parcels, after going down to Peckham last week and being told there were no parcels waiting to be delivered. 3 parcels in total. 2 items that were duplicates as the retailer resent it after the original going awol and the 3rd was a duplicate of another parcel received 2 days before.

  21. Lordship Lane has been gridlocked both times I?ve been down it in the last two days and beyond heading to DKH. Even during times when it would normally be quiet. I?m also wondering about access for emergency services. What a shambles.

  23. I just woke up and could smell it too. Thankfully it isn?t me going mad! Any idea where it?s coming from? I?ve looked out in the street but can?t tell if it?s smokey or misty.
