Firstly, the other witness comes across as having an agenda, whereas the rest of us haven't. The only people on here giving it the pro-car/anti-human beings spiel are the anti-car mob. DB&B has a meltdown at the thought of crossing a road so hardly comes over as being rational, yet alone a credible witness. I have been in the gut wrenchingly unenviable position of having been in an accident involving a child running out into the street and me hitting them. Was speed a factor? No. Was there ANYTHING I could have done to avoid the accident? No - the opinion of the witnesses and the Police who attended. Was the child 100% to blame for running out from behind a bus stop while larking with his mates? Yes. Did I hold that against him? No. I was in far worse shock than he was despite knowing that (1) I wasn't speeding (2) I took my foot off the accelerator and covered the brake as I approached the bus stop as there was a crowd of children (3) there was not a thing the I could have done to avoid what happened. Your analogy about slinging a brick into a crowded room is not only moronic but deeply insulting to someone who has been in this situation. 30 mph is not too fast if you teach children to cross the road safely. DB&B et al are the problem as they abdicate all responsibility and make everyone else the bad guy. If we did make the speed limit 20 mph, then we'd have threads complaining about the increase in pollution. What we need to do is realise that ALL of us need to take an equal share of responsibility. And that, sadly, accidents do sometimes happen in life.

  5. DulwichBorn&Bred Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > And don't forget the overhill road to cross ! ....which is one way only. Given your last 3 posts, what exactly are you expecting? A tunnel from your front door to wherever it is you are going? Seriously, and I don't mean this to sound rude, take some responsibility. Roads have to be crossed. You CAN get from any Point A to any Point B in Dulwich using the crossings already provided. Yes, it will take 5, maybe even 10 minutes longer but if you are that concerned about crossing roads then stop stressing yourself and use what is already available. Yes, some drivers do drive too fast but the majority don't, especially at the time of day when the school run is going on. Most people can cross roads safely, but some seemingly can't, as per my earlier post! And sadly, accidents do happen. Teaching children how to cross roads safely and making them aware of the dangers served us 70's babies well enough. Perhaps if we moved away from the mollycoddling nature of society these days and made kids aware that some things are dangerous and bad things happen, then they can learn to stay safe and their parents might just stop stressing themselves into an early grave.
  6. Will PM you with contact details.
  7. For the sake of 2 minutes of your life, why not use either the crossing at Overhill Road or the library? If you cross there, as many of us do, you are doing so at an intersection of 4 roads and a semi blind bend in the Lane at that point. Barely a week goes past without me seeing someone dart across the road here to get the bus and nearly get pinged by the traffic (although I'm not saying that this was the case here). The same goes for the stop opposite Hebert Road, which has a crossing and lollipop personnel too! Having zebra crossings every 100 metres isn't the solution. Common sense just might be.
  8. Every time the Foxtons 'Sold' board is taken down from my neighbours property, they come along and put another one up. Must have last been sold 18 months ago, at least. Scummers, even by their industry's standards.
  9. If you have a decent internet connection available (fibre preferable for that many users) then you could go for a PC based system like 3CX. It'll be less costly than installing a full PBX. Each desk would need a network point though and you'd need to sign up for a VoIP account too. Do you have a budget in mind? I can put you in touch with someone if you want to PM me.
  10. A hugely successful last push just to get 531 signatures? Sounds likes one of Bob Crow's lines when justifying a strike that no one actually voted for. Given the recent additions to road furniture locally in order to slow down traffic in ED even further, you're only now cottoning on to the fact that this raises the pollution levels? If I donate some common sense, can I keep my 4x4?

Unless > you're travelling late in the morning like 0800 or > after, there's hardly a difference. Like I said, commuting so exactly around that time. I used to allow 20 minutes to easily get the train, now that's not enough. And as far as I'm aware, Chinese is a language albeit one that has many regional variations and dialects. @Civilservant - On the days I commute into town I have a heavy kit bag with me that I don't fancy lugging down the Lane. Would you suggest the same to all the mum's with buggies?
  13. Do any of the apps duplicate across the devices? Or are you only able to have. Apps A B & C on Kindle 1 and apps D E & F on Kindle 2? Not used a Kindle but maybe you need a unique account per unit.
  14. Plenty of people in plenty of industries have to work Boxing Day or over the festive period. If you're earning upwards of ?45k for what is essentially an unskilled job, then I fail to see what makes you so special a case. You go into it knowing that you will have to work some public holidays, it can hardly be a surprise. Do Tube drivers et al deserve time with their families at Xmas? Yes. But then do what I and many others do and use holiday entitlement for this period. My colleagues and I are on call over this period and despite never having had a callout in the last 5 years, I still banked up a few days to make sure that my time was undisturbed. What is really sickening is that it is the vast majority who suffer due to the tiny minority who had the gall to paint themselves as the victims and you get people like Malumbu defending them like we are back in the dark ages and live in a serfdom. Hopefully TFL will have the stones to follow through on their warning and sack those who strike as this seems to be what the man and woman in the street wants.
  15. grabot Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I guess that might be right. Hopefully in the > long term the lights will put motorists off. Put them off from what exactly? Heading towards Camberwell? To Forest Hill? Going about their business? Perhaps it will put us off commuting from East Dulwich station to London Bridge as you now need to leave 20 minutes earlier if you get the bus from further up Lordship Lane due to the congestion caused by the traffic calming measures. Causing congestion adds to pollution levels so the payoff for those who couldn't be bothered to use the crossings we all ready had is to add significantly to the pollution their cherubs inhale. Lordship Lane is, and always has been, a main road. You might as well hope to put motorists off using the South Circular. I was asked to sign a petition recently for a crossing on East Dulwich Road at the junction of LL as it is "more dangerous now". When I pointed out that the new crossing on the Lane at this point has caused this problem, you'd have though I was speaking in Chinese.
  16. Belvoir Road / Belvoir Lodge has been giving the PO problems for the 20 years that I've lived here. Last summer I took a bundle of birthday cards round to the corresponding address in Belvoir Road.....

  18. Erm, as their parent this is surely your problem as you have chosen to be a parent as opposed to, say, a neighbour who hasn't? 19. You're clearly more understanding of these things than I am, Chippy. See you for band practice outside your bedroom window at 5:00am then.
  20. Nope, at the weekend that is early in the morning and anti-social in the extreme. 21. I'd far rather put up with some noise during the daytime, than the racket my neighbours and their child make at 7:30am every Saturday and Sunday morning - without fail. That has a far greater effect and the quality of my R&R come Monday morning.
