Daniel Tweedie is an excellent ENT surgeon who has provided great care to both my children. He works out of the Evelina at St Thomas' and privately through the Portland and The Cromwell.

Hi I know there have been previous threads on this a few years ago but is anyone experiencing low water pressure? The taps work fine during the day but in the evening very little or no water comes out... Thanks

Hi we have also been offered Goodrich - any views much appreciated. Kirsten

We have outgrown our Phil and Teds double and I am looking to buy a lightweight stroller type thing - can anyone recommend one? I feel I no longer need such a big buggy. My daughter who is nearly 2 loves walking but still needs a buggy and likes to nap in it so will need something which goes relatively flat. Any recommendations gratefully received!

Yes I won't use Evans if indeed they do open and will remain loyal to Balfes.

Trunki's - good idea or waste of money?

Thanks Pickle - that's really helpful -
Hi sorry this is such a boring thread - would anyone recommend a trunki? Are they useful for airports with a 3 1/2 year old? Thanks

This is an awful situation for all concerned - the staff, parents and children who attend Oak Tree. However it is unacceptable to blame sweetgirl for what is happening now. A child was in immediate danger as a result of the nursery's actions and posts like that from misshelen do not help anyone. I hope a way forward can be found and my sympathies to all those affected - it must be hugely stressful.

We have brushed concrete and it's a nightmare. Staines really easily. Not as hard wearing as you would think. If we get our kitchen done it will be the first thing to go!

I would be really grateful to hear other parent's views of Rosemead. I recently visited and had quite a few concerns, particularly with regard to the nursery and the lack of space. To be honest I had quite a negative reaction to the school but the children all seem very happy and they obviously get good results. I would be really grateful to hear other parents thoughts. Please pm me if you wish. Thanks,

Thanks - this has been really helpful and has given us lots to consider. Zeban - rather not say what we do precisely but I work within an unusual medical specialty. Thanks all! -
Moving abroad - where would you go?
KattyKit replied to KattyKit's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi, Thanks so much for your replies! With regard to the US work wise we have already checked it out and because of our professions it appears that it would not be too problematic to get work visas. Austrailia would be easier re: work visa but we both have colleagues who have done a stint in the US so it appears not impposible... K -

Moving abroad - where would you go?
KattyKit replied to KattyKit's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks for your replies. Scandinavia sounds interesting but realistically I think the language barrier would be too great. I guess the stereotypical ex-pat communities which are quite segregated puts me off Hong Kong etc - but this is based purely on stereotypes. It is probably a toss up between the US & Oz. How expensive is Sydney? Our jobs would pay comparable amounts to here and the move isn't really financially motivated in that we aren't necessarily looking for more lifestyle bang for our buck just a different experience. The distance and expense of family and friends visiting are negatives. Hadn't thought about US holiday allowances - good point. Washington DC would work well Jobwise but I have never been so obv find it had to have an opinion. We were also considering Chicago but cold winters puts me off! Thanks. -
My husband and I are considering moving abroad for a couple of years. Both our jobs are fairly portable, our children young and we would like to experience living somewhere else for a while. Jobwise it would probably have to be Austrailia, America or possibly Middle East. We are leaning towards America but can't decide which part. I am also keen on Austrialia but have never been. Can any family roomers offer any advice? Where would you go? K

Odd working hours- childcare advice please
KattyKit replied to tortor's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi, I also do odd hours including nights. We have found that our only viable option is a nanny who starts at 6.30/ 7 and is flexible about finish time. In laws and parents cover the nights the nanny cannot. It's tough financially but somehow we muddle through... K -
Hi, Do you have to have your own pump or can you borrow / hire one? I will finish feeding my daughter in a couple of months and would be interested in donating but I don't have a pump.... Kirsten

I hate them to be honest - they distract drivers and attract children to go near them and the road. I wish Southwark council would ask local residents' opinions about these things before going ahead. I also have no idea what's green about using spray paints....

Views on The Villa nursery (Lyndhurst Grove SE5)
KattyKit replied to gm99's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My son is at the nursery and we are really really pleased with it. The staff are second to none and facilities excellent. My son is one of the youngest and is quite shy and has being going through an unsettling time with me being in hospital for nearly a month and a new baby and the nursery have been really supportive to both him and us as a family. He is thriving there. They have just received an excellent OFSTED report. -

Yes Saffron I am aware of that. I was referring to the UK. Sorry thought that was obvious.

Saffron that is not quite correct - A mantoux test for adults over 35 doesn't diagnose TB particularly well and is not recommended - it's a chest x ray and possibly a blood test, depending on the results. Testing for TB if you have been in contact with someone with TB is only done after a careful risk assessment of degree of contact, how infectious they are etc.

Hi, Yes one of the reasons for not introducing universal chicken pox vaccine was the evidence that it would lead to increase in shingles in older people (however this will now be reduced due to the introduction of a shingles vaccine) and more importantly an increase in congenital varicella. This is because introducing a universal cp vaccine will significantly alter the epidemiology of the disease and result in a much later average age of infection amongst unvaccinated people ( which could be as high as 30% of the population) this would result in more severe infection and an increase in the number of pregnant women contracting the disease, hence the increase in congenital varicella. Like buggie I can count the number of cp related complications I have seen on one hand. It is generally a mild disease and complications are very rare.

Did the Kingsdale thread get taken down? Can't see it?
KattyKit replied to Cora's topic in The Family Room Discussion
If it was Kingsdale they'd be better off focusing on their GCSE results rather than surfing the talk boards of EDF and Mumsnet threaning to sue people for 'libel'... -
Judith Kerr Primary School formal consultation
KattyKit replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I am confused? Why a German school? What evidence is there for the need for a German / English bilingual school as opposed to a general community primary school?
