Sorry for not posting earlier.... The VM Technician came round and we are back online. I managed to go through some of the questions with him although he didn't get back to me on the signal from the street & how far the VM box is from us, and I didn't get round to doing the speed test (I blame my 9 month old daughter who chose that time to need lots of attention)! What I did get from him is: - Our modem is Netgear which is not the best but okay. According to him, there are better wireless ones which they now have. The best 'ring main' adapter is Devolo and he highly recommends them. His diagnosis: Apparently we had a signal problem ("low return") and he needed a Network Engineer to fix the problem as the technicians are not equipped to sort out signal problems. He said the fact that previous technicians who had come round had 'fixed' the problems themselves explains why they kept recurring as they are only able to temporarily 'fix' the problem. He called the engineer who came within 2 hours and fixed the problem (from the VM box).... Well, we should supposedly have no problems for at least a few months. Time shall tell.... By the way, he reiterated that there are way too many VM subscribers in ED, with our road having one of the most users he has come across. -
Can anyone advise on nanny share contracts, perhaps share a template? I've found a nanny who I really like and would like to draw up a contract (either employing her fully and sub-contracting to a second family when I find one, or a joint contract with both families as employers which I would prefer). Also, what happens when one family pulls out of the arrangement? Does the remaining family sign a new contract or remain on the joint contract until a new family joins Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Please pm me if you are able to help. Many thanks, BC

Virgin Media broadband not working
Browncoffee replied to Heart108's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Have had VM technicians over a few times this year due to similar problems - no internet connection, despite upgraded service. It's now our 3rd day of no connection and we're once again expecting an engineer to come round on Monday. Given my husband generally works from home, this is becoming more & more frustrating, and we are now keen to try another provider. Any heavy users (who possibly also work from home & needs near-perfect service) able to recommend an alternative, better provider? -
As a new-ish mum, can't help but relate....:-D

Taxi company with baby seats?? Help!
Browncoffee replied to Sally81's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I often use the cab office near Honor Oak Station & they always have their car seat available (I believe they have one for infants and one for toddlers). I used them last week so no doubt they still have them. Their number is 020 8291 7744. Best wishes, BC -

We've travelled a few times with our LO and have had to check in her pram. The airport bubble wrap (think it costs ?6) has worked brilliantly each time. Hope you have a lovely flight. BC -

Mother Goose Nursery on Upland Road, any thoughts?
Browncoffee replied to checkmeout's topic in The Family Room Discussion
To comment on my own perception of Mother Goose on Upland Road, I have to say I agree with checkmeout. Out of 6 nurseries I viewed, it was the only one I did not get my daughter on the waitlist for, pretty much for similar reasons. The manager was lovely but the nursery looked like it desperately needed some TLC - books & toys were really old and "manky", and the whole place just looked like it needed a good scrub. Again, I can only comment on my views on the nursery, based on one visit. My advice is to trust your instinct and visit a few nurseries so you can compare. I just didn't feel it was right for me. My daughter is on the waitlist for the Waveney Avenue one and I've heard good things about the Greendale one which I intend to visit sometime soon. Best wishes, BC -

Husband and I are considering a last-minute holiday for the bank holiday weekend and would appreciate any recommendations. It'll be our first holiday without our little girl (who'll be enjoying her time with the grandparents) so really after the following: - lots of relaxation (heated indoor swimming pool, sauna etc) - lie-ins (can't even remember what those were like but know I desperately need them again) - a spa - lots of lovely meals - easy reach from London (no more than an hour drive or train ride) Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated by a very sleep-deprived mother:o)

Sorry for your loss, Woody549. I'm on Marmora Road but unfortunately did not witness the incident. Agree that something needs to be done about the speeding on our road. Hope you get some helpful responses.

Thanks everyone! I'll certainly be driving with the 'P' plates, at least for the first couple of weeks. @Twirly: motorway driving is still not allowed on 'L' plates so maximum speed so far is also 40mph. I plan to drive locally (avoiding motorways) for the first couple of weeks, then will have my instructor give me an additional lesson - just to tackle motorways:-o @Annette: every second counts:o) PS: I still hate turning right at the junction from East Dulwich Road to Peckham Rye:o( Please be patient when you spot the P plate driving taking her time, before turning right:o)
-
Thanks Ramble66. I'll go ahead and order one:-)

Just passed my test this week, and have had conflicting views on the above. Does having a 'P' plate mean other drivers are a bit more patient as I get used to driving on my own, or are others more likely to get impatient and frustrated especially when driving behind me? I obviously wouldn't be out driving if I wasn't confident. However, I'd be lying if I didn't say the first couple of days of driving solo have been slightly nerve-wrecking:o(
