The environment agency should be contacted - they can bring oxygenating equipment to help the remaining fish https://deframedia.blog.gov.uk/2020/08/19/environment-agency-staff-working-round-the-clock-to-reduce-fish-deaths/ "Anyone who sees fish in distress should contact us on 0800 80 70 60"

Advice please: pet insurance for an 11 yr old cat - Thanks all, now sorted
elloriac replied to IlonaM's topic in The Lounge
First off, apologies, I cannot help with recommending an insurance company. What we did instead, was to put the amount of money that we would have paid for a policy per month into a bank account, just for that purpose. Made sure we did it every month, no excuses. Not allowed to use the money for anything else. If you can find a company that will provide lifelong cover for an 11 year old cat, it will be quite expensive, and in our experience, whenever there is a problem, it's difficult to get them to pay out anyway. Luckily we didn't have any major expenses with our rescued 13 year old cat (from Celia's), and now that she has passed, the money is still sitting there in case our 'new' cat needs it. (We continue to put money in every month.) -
If you can manage online, Lynda/LinkedIn Learning has a free 1 month trial and has courses in Excel and the like: https://www.lynda.com/search?q=excel&f=level%3a1%5eBeginner Don't know of any in-person training, outside of adult education, but they won't start til September.

We've had success with blue tits nesting on our allotment (One Tree Hill) and our friends have on Blythe Hill, again with blue tits. The RSPB has guidance on where to site bird boxes, depending on who you are trying to attract: https://www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/advice/how-you-can-help-birds/nestboxes/nestboxes-for-small-birds/making-and-placing-a-bird-box/ Seeing that blue tit have nested in those cigarette disposal bins outside offices in the past, I think they are probably not very picky!

If you want to have your hearing aids funded by the NHS, you will have to get a referral from your GP. I foolishly didn't look into that and just went to Specsavers. The hearing test was done in a soundproof booth and seemed very thorough. I'm happy with my hearing aids and they have made a world of difference, after far too long as you describe yourself! To get discreet ones, which my friends have been surprised at how small and unnoticeable they are, it was about ?1K each ear. They do occasionally have sales, but I don't know how much discount is offered. (I was shocked at that, and it took me a long time to pay it back...)

Ginger cat found - do you know the owner?

This cat is at Celia Hammond in Lewisham. The number associated with the chip no longer works. They couldn't tell my neighbours (we live on Ryedale) where the chip was registered for data protection reasons but they did say that it was not local - they said quite far away. Do you know anyone who has moved from out of the area? Please help this friendly cat find his people

Luca's on North Cross Road also has lots of vegan options, and vegan cake. Yum! Most places have vegan options now - in addition to the Actress, the Great Exhibition has a lovely Sunday roast, and there are vegan burgers on their reg menu too (IIRC!). Watson's General Telegraph (Forest Hill Road) also has vegan options and vegan Sunday roast. I imagine all the pubs do. Check the Tiger in Camberwell too - fab Sunday roast. There's lots of takeaway available through the various delivery services. We love the Full Nelson in Deptford, the same people do the kitchen in the Four Quarters, which we have indulged in on Deliveroo... Mostly though, we cook at home...

I've received my sticker but still no big brown bin to attach it to. Anyone had a bin delivered yet? -
Forest Hill Road Surgery - again.
elloriac replied to George Orwell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm very happy with the Gardens surgery. Excellent online booking service, choice of appointments. Reception staff vary from efficient to friendly, but I never get the feeling that I am unwelcome that I felt at the Forest Hill practice. -
there was a sign on the window on the weekend saying that they would be open today, however, I left for work too early to see if they had...

It's probably more effective to donate money instead of food http://time.com/money/4123363/donations-food-money/ http://nationalpost.com/news/canada/stop-donating-canned-goods-to-food-drives-your-string-bean-castoffs-are-only-making-things-worse http://www.slate.com/articles/business/moneybox/2011/12/food_drives_charities_need_your_money_not_your_random_old_food_.html

Found black and white male cat nunhead se15
elloriac replied to roxie99's topic in Lost, Found or Stolen
If you can catch him, you could take him to a vet to check for a chip. Or Celia Hammond will trap him, check for a chip. If no owner found, they will neuter him. See http://www.celiahammond.org/index.php/about-us/feral-cats. You can call them to discuss 020 8694 6545 (leave a message if no-one answers, it's rather frantic there) -
If the plans go ahead as discussed at the public meeting that I attended, the intention is very much to continue to provide pedestrian access through the cemetery - you can see the new pedestrian access point to Honor Oak Park, plus other new pedestrian access points from One Tree Hill and elsewhere on the drawings by downloading the "Proposals for Camberwell old and new cemeteries" document at the bottom of this page: http://www.southwark.gov.uk/iies

Travelling with meds to be kept at fridge temperature
elloriac replied to muffins78's topic in The Lounge
I have a Frio large wallet for travelling with insulin. I don't know what size your pens are, but the large ones are more than large enough for the Novartis insulin pens, plus some insulin. You could ring Frio and ask them about Humira, I'm sure they could tell you if they would fit, and the website does give dimensions for each size wallet: http://www.friouk.com/shop/medical/large-wallet.aspx -
they were knocking door to door on Ryedale a few days ago

Zippos might remove the poster boards from around the park (eventually!), but they certainly don't from the empty shops on Forest Hill Road. Nor do they seem to feel the need to ask permission from the newsagent/post office to plaster them all over his newspaper delivery box.
