  1. You make a valid point Toast, a number of these heads arent up to the job in hand, and have in all likelihood been pushed into these positions when they are not up to the task in hand, just because there are few others who will fill them.?
  2. Thaty is a disgusting site, and not representative of society as a whole. You seem to be missing the point though- no one knows what the intentions were of Moyles, you just want to jump to conclusions and make accusations. At the end of teh day this all seems pretty innocent to most people, and has just been taken the wrong way and blown way out of proportion, hence Southwark council not wuilling to comment any further and the police stating that there was not racial malice intended.
  3. This thread should probably stop now. Lady Libra you are not going to accept anything else but your own point of view, and anyone who argues with your point will be labelled. From your last post it is obvious that you are picking an argument.

  5. What a load of crap all of this is- Southwark council have refused to publish the findings of their inquiry into this matter. Why??? Probably because the results woudl show that this was all a big waste of time. It was never meant as a personal attack on the head teacher, and should never of been taken as such by her, but obviously that cant be published because it would make the head teacher look foolish for reacting in such a way. Southwark would also look pretty stupid to have wasted so much time on such a ridiculous case, its obviously not racist, its Charles Darwin for god sake, he has a bloody grey beard. How anyone can see it otherwise is looking to stir trouble. Admitedly there is teh question here of whether the imagery of parents holding the school to account in such a way is acceptable, but that is a completetly different question from whether from racism. I wonder if this was reported in teh Guardian, would people still be so adament that it was a racist act?
  6. Report him to the police, they will know where he lives and pick him up again and probably prosecute as he has been convicted before.
  7. Can anyone recomend any antenatal classes in the ED area, the only ones we can find are full day courses, but we both cant make them unfortunately, so ideally looking for some evening classes. Any help would be much appreciated.
  8. The guys ran off in the direction of Peckham down Crystal Palace road or one of the neighbouring streets. If you live around there please keep an eye out for her bag- she was very upset and somethig back is better than nothing. We think that the two guys were spotted on Lordship Lane outside the old video store 5- 10 mins earlier, both were in dark hoodie/ sweatshirt type tops, and dressed all in dark. They were acting suspiciously on Lordship Lane which was why i clocked them. Be vigilant People
  9. I see your point, but that would cost more money. The idea that residents are polled in the first place will give a better indicvation of whether they actually see a problem, if they doont then nothing furtehr need be done, its minimum cost and effort. Initiating a council study im sure would be pretty costly, especially to have one or two people conducting the study over a two week period.
  10. James, Maybe the answer is to poll all of the residents of the affected streets and see what tehir views of a CPZ are in the first instance. Im sure that wouldnt be too much to do, either a door to door survey or a few letters through letterboxes. Then at least you would know what the general feeling is of the affetced residents and can look at acting accordingly.
  11. If you noticed, I wasnt complaining Cate, I was merely pointing out the facts, as I sais it doesnt really effect me so im not that bothered, but can see how it effects other people in the local area. The estate agents opposite the station park behind the premisies in desiganted parking, and goose green was not included in any of the roads that were mentioned earlier, and i was refering more to the high concentration of agents further down Lordship Lane.
  12. I live on one of those streets and whilst I cant say that it is definitely commuters I cant see who else it can be. It is incredibly hard to get a parking space on any of them between 8.30am and 6.30pm however after this time there is always plenty of spaces, which would suggest to me that there are ample spaces to park for residents, as this is when everyone tends to be at home and there is never a problem. It is in the daytime that problems occur. I work in the day and get the train to work so it does not really effect me, but there have been occasions where I have had the day off, popped out in the car and then cant park anywhere again for ages due to the volume of parked cars. I had a week off recently and encountered this problem pretty much every day, but was amazed at how by 6.30 there were loads of spaces again. I can only see it as being commuters as you wouldn't park that far up from Lordship Lane you would park on one of the side streets, and there arent really enough businesses in that triangle, certainly not estate agents that would use those roads to park in, again they all tend to park in the roads directly off Lordhsip Lane (where most of them are located). The weekends can also be quite bad, not because of the shopping, but people use those streets to park whilst they go to church at the Dulwich Grove U.R.C. However this only tends to last one to two hours on a saturday and Sunday.
  13. Thanks all, I think we are going to see which one we can get in with, but at least we now have some good ideas. To be fair anything has to be better than Melbourne Grove
  14. Thanks guys- its 27m long x 10- I called them to check. Bit of a random question I know, but I need it to calculate a distance swim im training for.
  15. We have been having a few issues with the surgery on Melbourne Grove and thinking of leaving, but not sure if any in the area are better. we used to be with an amazing surgery in Balham, but this one has been really poor, especially in dealing with my partners pregnancy. Its a special and exciting time and we dont want it spoilt by teh surgery that we are with!!! Any recommendations welcome.
  16. James is my counciller- my point is he is not everyones and so when peop,le are talking from outside of James' ward there is no need to keep coming back to his own ward. The Op is not from ED ward, neither are a few others who have posted. I dont think anyone on this thread has been criticising ED ward in particular- it was James who made it about wards statistics. The point was that these types of crime seem to be on the increase in the area as a whole, as this is the ED forum that constitutes the neighbouring wards also. Howeve that said I do agree that i think it more a perception that it has increased because of the more frequent posts on here, and without this forum there probably would be no issue, but the fact is we have this forum, like it or not and people are going to post things like this.
  17. James, Stop banging on about East Dulwich ward, commentators on here are users of the forum and not neccissarily from your ward. You seem to have some sort of issue about trying to prove how good you are and how good you have been in comparison to some over your counterparts in other wards. You keep going on about your marking kits and all you have done locally, which is great, but not everything is aimed at you, at does not continuously need to be related back to your ward. Oh by the way you may want to get your facts straight- you claim ED is one of the safest wards in ED, well putting that into context of this thread and your own figures, ED ward had the 4th highest residential burglary rate in Southwark in September. Maybe your beloved property marking kits arent doing aswell as you like to maintain. To be honest this threas has probably run its course now, and done the job of raising awareness in the local wards, but I agree with some of the previous posts that we dont need to keep on about this as though it is a massive issue. There are burglaries in this area and always will be, but it is by no means a rampant problem that should scare people. Its just something that people should be aware of and act accordingly, and not use the issue to scare or score some chief political points.
  18. I think it may be an even simpler reason than that- drugs. The guys commiting these thefts are doing it simply for drug money, not really any other material gain than that, just their next fix.
  19. That sounds like a good idea, thanks James.
  20. Yes thanks Nero/ Sean, I dont think anyone has said that they dont have a part to play. If you read the other posts you will see that most of us had alarms or double glazing or know our neighbours, I actually had the cime prevention team around from the police who said that there was nothing else we could really of bee done- if they want to get in they are going to get in was the specific comment. Unfortunately these things do happen and are occuring more frequently so i feel well within my rights to question the people who are in a position to do something about it on an area basis and who have access to the people who will make the decisions. And if people didnt "bleat" about it as you so eliquiently put it then other people in the area would not know what to be on the look out for. The poloice are actually encouraging the use of forums like this to make people more aare of whats going on around them. It is a bit of a contradiction that you dont want people writing about this stuff on here because it I certainly agree that I woulnt of heard of JB if he wasnt on her, but as he is and seems keen to comment on these posts then im sure he wouldnt mind answering questions about what he and the local authorities plan to do about it. The response that the crime figures have been reduced or that we should all go and join our neighbourhood watches doesnt cut it with me.
  21. What I am saying is that for the past 6 weeks if you look back on this forum there have been a number of different reported burglaries, I counted 11, which were break ins, not thefts, or any othe rform of crime (tehse are jsut the ones that have been announced on the forum). Also when you talk to the local Police they have said that their has been a sharp rise in this type of crime in the area recently. This is my point about these statistics, they are not always truly representative of the area. THE POINT OF ALL OF THIS IS THAT THOSE STATISTICS MEAN ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO MOST OF US and if the counciller feels that just by showing those means that that is doing his job then it doesnt fill me with a great deal of confidence. The issue is how can all of this be stopped. Like it or not there is a crime wave occuring in the area, and just because it may cross over into more than one ward so the figures dont look as bad shouldnt fool people. We are not being offered any solution here, the local council arent saying we will put up CCTV, or we wont increase police presence in the daytime in the areas affected, orsaying that they will carry out more stop and searches. This is the isse
  22. Loz, I think your missing the point, nothing seems happening about the 11 plus burglaries that I have been told about in the area in the past months (and tehy are just teh ones taht have been mentioned on here). When the police themselves are saying that they are seeing a noticable rise in crime in the area then that is good enough for me. You shouldnt always believe the stats that some people will tell you- they are not alwaya a true reflection of the hard facts, these stats included.
  23. It is alsop worth noticing with these stats that they give no weighting to the severity of the crime. East Dulwich has one of the highest rates of burglary in the are with only Chaucer. Grance and The lane above it. Peckham has a lower burglary rate than ED/ Peckham Rye but because of the high number of anti social behaviour offences it ranks higher than ED. If these crime were waited in terms of severity- ie burglary is view as a serious crime then ED would be much higher than most other wards. Although violence against a person would still keep cathedrals and Peckham high on the list
