  1. Hiya, if you like a structured type of class, we loved going to sing&sign (http://www.singandsign.com/classes/classes-near-you/southwark-and-lambeth) and made good friends. ED tots website (http://www.edtots.co.uk/) has lots of other things on - hopefully you find something you like! Mx
  2. I have to say I frequently see no one offering to help - at a guess 50% of the time?

But it was still a nice wander, went to Mary-le-bow, where the vicar gave an interesting short talk, then walked along the Thames path - not something we had done for a long time - it seems to have improved. Next year: have subscribed to the newsletter and hope to be better organised (and get there earlier:) What did others go & see? m
  4. Hahaha, it Is talk like a pirate day, very appropriate :) Thank you every one for the suggestions, they're brilliant, and thank you for the offer, Grotty, too. I think we will go for a mix of bought ( got a sword and sash for belt) and I make some of the things suggested as the boy now says he doesn't want to dress up!!! Argh. So instead of full costume, we'll settle for light touch and accessories :) Many thanks, mx
  5. Hi, I had these amazing plans to make a pirate costume for my 3.5 yr old son for a party he is going to - only to fail completely and now look to acquire one quickly - the party is this weekend. Anyone know where I can buy one? Had a look in Sainsbury, but couldn't fine one - any other suggestions please?
  6. This is the first year I finally want to go - but the choice is pretty overwhelming! Any recommendations?
  7. Agree with OP - and that includes station staff: if there are three of you standing around chatting while watching someone struggle up or down the stairs, feel free to pitch in (and yes, I did say make that comment to the staff in question at the time, too).
  8. Petition signed
  9. Could it be restored using various forms of crowdfunding and run as a private, non-for-profit enterprise that monetizes other things, too?
  10. Do phone them and get them to explain exactly how the bill is calculated. I had a similar thing happen to me years ago and when I phoned the guys asked if I had a swimming pool. Living in a 5th floor flat, it was pretty obvious no... I kept arguing till they accepted their computers had gone wrong somewhere - and I did not owe them any more money. Good luck!
  11. Sounds like a great day - have shared on FB and hope to be there...
  12. Sorry to hear about your troubles - a friend of mine had exactly the same issues with her son simply not wanting to go and it turned into a massive battle of wills. They had some success with target sticker in the loo (along these lines: http://www.amazon.co.uk/toilet-training-target-stickers-Happeedays/dp/B002GZAWUK) turning a wee into a game (it was still hard work). Best of luck!
  13. It would be nice - other lidos seem very popular, so why not?
  14. We put bamboo down in our lounge and a number of bedrooms and love it. Very, very hard wearing, 5 yrs on, it looks like new despite heavy traffic. Not all bamboo is the same quality, the strip-glued type seems less strong, we have something called strand woven. Laid on top of the original floorboards, with underlay, it does a great job of insulating. We used this company - and I know our builder has recommended them (after coming across them via us) to quite a few of other clients: http://www.bambooflooringcompany.com/all-flooring/strand-woven-flooring/ good luck!
  15. Hiya, I would hugely recommend my childminder who is looking to take on another child - though she is more Denmark Hill way (near Vestry Rd). If you're interested, please PM me.
  16. Best of luck that you find someone - I have often thought something like this would be great to share some of the childcare struggles!
  17. Second to the Albrighton centre - you get use of the kitchen, too - and the bouncy castle is brilliant entertainment.
  18. Hiya, we got married there 3 years ago and it was really nice. Waited in a fairly traditionally decorated (but pretty empty) room with all the guests beforehand, the ceremony room was nice enough, and yes, did have a CD player. Overall ceremony was short and sweet but then had lots of time to take photos in the gardens which was very nice. Have a fab day!!!!
  19. I am very sure that watching Disney movies and wearing pink dresses (or any other ones) will not turn any girl into a subservient airhead. But I have sympathy for the OP's frustration: as a child of the 80s I remember being upset that there were so few strong females in movies - consequently adored Star Wars as it had Princess Leia... (and later, loved Buffy the vampire slayer - the series). So it's a bit disappointing that the new Star Wars movies are very light on female leads, and taken together with the general "pinkification" (pink Kinder surprise, anyone?), there seems to be a need for more people speaking out against this stereotyping. BTW, stereotyping goes both way, I really want more boys shoes/clothes that are not navy, khaki or have trucks/trains/planes on them!
  20. Cannot make teh 27th but ordered the swap kit - takes less than 5min to register. Hope a match can be found for your friends' little one (and others) mx
  21. Hiya, we're just back from a holiday with Pierre & Vacances in Fuerteventura (http://www.pierreetvacances.com/gb-en)- it's like a centre park but in the sun and the prices were nothing like centre park. Kids' club, sporting activities, loads of swimming pools and a free splashpark, great fun.
  22. We had one for a year and my son (3.5) loves his one. Taken it on several short haul flights and train journeys. He's not been in a buggy for about a year as well, so it was a godsend to have something that means we dont' have to carry him. Second the bit about everything falling out :)
  23. Hiya, spotted a the rucksack filled with little toys on a fence near Leisure Centre entrance. Hope the owner finds it.
  24. Hiya, sorry i cannot recommend any particular restaurant but on a stay for 2 nights in Antwerp with a 8 months old, I found all the places to be very child friendly. Even the hotel we were in - which was definitely more business orientated than families - everyone was lovely and very helpful. Food was lovely everywhere we tried. Have fun!
