Hiya, I am looking for tips on how to deal with the ever more frequent incidents of travel sickness with my little son. He used to be fine travelling for hours, but over the last 6-12months has started to get travel sick on car journeys, buses, flights, boat rides, trains - pretty much every form of transport that is not walking (or his buggy). And its not just long or rough journeys: the most recent one was this morning on a 20min car ride. Before that it was on a very calm flight, during the approach to landing. Again, not a long journey. I am really baffled, as we tried eating/not eating/eating very bland biscuits or banana/not looking at books/games/toys etc. We also tried the pressure wrist bands - though he was really proud of wearing them, they seem to make no difference at all. He has never been a kid to throw up a lot (even as a baby) and although he is distressed when it happens, he is normally ok within minutes afterwards - but of course it is not a nice experience for everyone (including that poor taxi chap recently who was ever so friendly and helpful). For long journeys I'd be willing to try Joyrides, but that seems really not appropriate for short inner-London trips. Strangely enough, he is perfectly fine on the mini-carousels at the fairground... Any tips or suggestions, please? Thanks, mx

Stolen handbag in The Bishop Saturday 8th June

TBH, I am not sure what I thought I could do, even if the CCTV images had been of any use... -
Stolen handbag in The Bishop Saturday 8th June

Hiya, very sorry to hear about this - it is most upsetting when you personal things get taken, not just the money but the little things that have no value to others... What is also scary that this report sounds like an almost exact replica of how my handbag was stolen in the Bishop 3 years ago - the suspects were a couple working together (although no clothing description at the time), we sat towards the back and no one on our table or the ones around us noticed anything. Plus, I was told there was a spade of thefts that day, too! CCTV was also useless at the time - and no, I never heard from the Bishop, despite asking quite a few times for feedback/ whether the CCTV images could be used etc. Hope your sister has more luck and get some things back mx -
Swimming lessons? They've been a favourite in our house since my son was 4months old and he's still going at 28months. Peckham Pulse is runs great classes in nice warm water (but there are tons of other classes, too). Plus, check out the EDtots.co.uk website - lots of classes on there mx

try nail varnish remover, ideally the cheaper stuff - have managed to remove nasty stickers and permanent pen marks.

Hiya, I am sure it's for different tastes: we absolutely loved it and I was very sad to when my LO outgrew the classes by 2years. Bringing him up bilingual, I had worried as he took a while to start speaking more than single words (about 18month)so the fact that he was signing ferociously was a comfort. He started signing at about 14months (first recognisable words was Zebra...no idea why). Trish, who ran our class was wonderful with lots of other tips, too, e.g. making up little songs to chiffy LO along or introducing a change of activity - so overall, I would recommend it.

Recommendations needed for help/recovery of torn ligaments in ankle....

All the things Katanita said in her first post: some injuries take a very long time to heal but persistence will work. If anything really feels wrong, seek 2nd opinion but the key are the right exercises.good luck mx -
Parenting is a very tough gig - I had no idea beforehand! I, too, worry to the extent of having anxieties (sorry if I am blurring the lines, but it appears to have progressed from one to the other for me). Through in some sad stories on the news, and I can be an emotional wreck, wanting to wrap LO (and everyone else I care about) in cotton wool. As Saffron said, different strategies work for different people, and I do agree that the key is to be proactive to break that vicious circle. Things that work for me have a lot to do with not asking too much of myself: i.e. getting enough sleep (I know, easily said), healthy eating and exercise. Sounds fairly trite, now that I write it down, but it does help me: I am definitely more anxious when I don't do those things. When my anxiety led to panic attacks I sought help and did a course of hypnotherapy which was excellent. It unpeeled a lot of underlying issues and gave me a "toolbox" of coping tools - I can pick one for depending on the situation. It also helped me to reduce practicing worrying - I realised that I was putting myself through a daily worry work-out and with all that worry exercise, I was getting really good at it - hence progressing to anxiety. I know this is not how it is for everyone, but the analogy worked for me, so now I try to mentally exercise more positive thinking. Is it working? The panic attacks have gone, and I do feel better equipped to be less anxious, even though it is not a magic want. Hope you find something that helps you, soon mx

It's an odd mixture: I've always found the younger staff to be really friendly and helpful when with kid or without. The owner seems to prefer not having kids there as she tuts at the slightest thing, e.g. a small spill of drink on its saucer (not the table or elsewhere) caused a lot of eye rolling - I only observed it & made my mind up not to bother coming back with LO. But then the tone of the various signs around also don't make adults feel very welcomed (e. g. 'this is NOT a door', 'feel free you're our Wi-Fi but not our power' and a few more.... ). Shame, because great cakes and croissants, but even without LO I just pop down to Cafe Viva on Choumert road

So sorry, what a horrible thing to happen. Hope you're ok,

The virgin media fibre service seems to have improved considerably over the last 7 days (Se15 4le) - have been able to watch full movies on lovefilm.com, which was not possible before. We did have it confirmed that as there was an ongoing problem, we would be given a full refund (not much use as brandnew subscription and first 6month are free) plus we would not be held to contract. Haven't moved (yet?) as we cannot decide if other providers are any better....

Thanks pommie - had a look and it looks very nice. Is there much to do near by, beside beach & pool? I did get a price check on the Thomson's website - is it normal that companies charge full price for a 2year old? Eeeek, I hadn't figured on that before....

Hiya, I am trying to come up with ideas for a holiday for 2 adults plus 2year old toddler in July that includes warm weather, pool, beach but is not based in Spain, the Balearics or the Canaries. I am trying to straddle the gulf between our previous independent travel and wanting to have some playmates for my son. Would be grateful for suggestions / ideas, thanks!

Hiya - I bought this one last week and so far am really happy: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004YGAFII/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 not used it for the mixing yet, but slicing, grating, blending is ace. The reviews are true, though: the instruction booklet is abysmal, you have to figure out yourself how it all fits together (which it does, very nicely, actually). mx

Recent experiences of Kings College Hospital maternity unit

I had my son there 2years ago and they were brilliant, I felt in really good hands, especially when decisions about emergency c-section had to be made. You can go on a tour to see the birthing rooms etc - it used to be on a Thursday early evening, but you better check. -
Well, Virgin came back to me saying that, surprise, surprise, their fix date for the fault causing slow speeds has been moved out to end of May - that means it has been going on since Nov, with fix dates continuously being pushed out... Has anyone experience of Hyperoptic? https://www.hyperoptic.com/web/guest/home

Signed up for easyfundraising. Important tip: apparently if you shop online, your basket has to be empty when signing in to find&remind (the easyfundraising app) allow them to claim your donation - so if, like me, you keep things in your basket, empty it first, then, use the easyfundraising browser extension and shop for your items. mx esme Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > "Another easy way to help raise much needed funds > for Xavier's operation is by visiting your > favourite shops online through his charity portal. > > > All of the details are below and there is no cost > to you. Goodliz, that it's exactly the reason why I want a processor that it's good at mixing, plus I'm feed up with the flour cloud when using the hand mixer....I have this idea in my head that I'd be creating these lovely cakes and making wonderful meals if only I had a food processor....yes, I know I'm delusional :-)
-
Oh, never thought about tipping delivery person....where would you stop? doors that mean I'm tight? But how to afford all the tips?
-
Hiya, just jumping on this thread as I been wondering about getting a food processor: - do you think it can replace a hand-held mixer for making cakes dough and the like? - do you find it really chops/grates all of the veg (meaning you don't have big chunks of it left at the end?) Goodliz: I saw the offer in Sainsbury but when I looked (about 4 weeks ago) there were cheaper options on Amazon for the same items. mx

Hi, it varies by airline. Some of the cheap ones allow only the one-piece fold up plus another item (car seat OR travel cot), some specify that the other item can only be e.g. a car seat and some (Ryanair) only allow a buggy, nothing else. Best to check directly with the airline...cue: ages in the phone helpline....sorry! Mx

Hiya, I wanted to resurrect this thread to get some up-to-date feedback. I am based in SE15, in Nutbrook st and since signing up with Virgin less than 1 month ago, my broadband speeds have been extremely slow in the evenings: less than 3mbps generally, sometimes down to kbps... They tell me that there is a known problem in the area, and looking at various threads, I have no confidence this will be resolved soon. Does anyone know a) if Sky fibre unlimited or BT infinity is any good in the area and b) are all these networks all on different cables or the same infrastructure? Not sure how it works with fibre. Any advice would be great! thanks Mx

Indiana - I am glad we are not the only ones putting the cot in the bathroom - when LO was 18month, I booked what I thought was a 1 bedroom B&B in Germany -it was a 1 room place! Luckily the bathroom was huge, otherwise we would have gone to bed very early indeed... We went to this place when LO was 9 months and really enjoyed it: http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/VacationRentalReview-g644244-d1675520-Apartment_in_private_residence_with_sea_view_a_c-Santa_Maria_di_Castellabate_Province_.html mx
