  1. Here's a few links from the past (had a bit of time!). Hope it helps. Would definitely recommend dvd player with a two year old and some headphones. Also, colouring books with washable ink markers, puzzles, small new toys that you can introduce every so often during the flight. Hopefully your toddler will also sleep on the flight - we did this by continuing on with same routine as at home, ie, brush teeth, gym jams, stories then into the airplane seat with favourite blanket and soft toy from home. Good luck! long haul travel flying to Aus with toddler flying with baby car seats on airplanes virgin airlines trunkies edited to add re; charging dvd players - depending on airlines/type of plane you can charge them on board as certain planes have outlets and certainly a larger long haul plane would. You might have to have an adaptor but we've bought them from the duty free shopping on board in a pinch. hope that helps.
  2. Yes, I too was curious how they evade motion detectors? I assume all alarms have motion detectors inside otherwise what's the point? The poster from the other thread (name escapes me) who had the entire glass panel lifted out of their window also had an alarm which baffled me. Also, alarms that ring back to a 24 hour monitored service centre that can then ring the police or fire department if need be are obviously much better than ones that just make noise if activated. Sorry cross posted - question answered.
  3. It was placed in the family room where it shouldn't have been as it's not related. It's been moved to the lounge. Have you checked there, there are 17 posts on it already. Admin likes to keep the forum nice and tidy. ;-) Best, -C
  4. I agree with everyone that the colour will settle a bit and also you will get used to it. I did the same thing a few years ago and got rid of highlights that I had forever and was completely mortified coming out of the salon with what I considered to be black hair. My stylist did put a few lighter shades in front to not make it so dark but it still shocked me. I basically got used to it. Also be careful with using lighter coloured towels when you wash your hair as sometimes the colour will transfer if it has recently been done. If you don't like it by Monday (as you say) then ask to have a few lighter strands done in the front to break up the dark colour. Good luck for the pregnancy/delivery.
  5. I think there's has been a thread about this as I remember replying to one. My first was 2 1/2 when no.2 arrived so not a lot of preparing as she didn't really get it until baby arrived. Had a lot of books (za za's baby brother, etc) and also went out with her and bought a gift for the new baby which we picked out together and baby also came bearing a gift for her. It all worked out and they get along very well especially now as both are older. Now, I'm just preparing my youngest who will be 3 1/2 when our no.3 arrives and trying to avoid middle child syndrome, etc, as she is a bit uncertain about it all so trying to talk about the baby and give her a lot of attention at the same time. However bump is a boy so think that jealousy won't be a big problem as both children are quite excited to have a little brother. Hope that helps.
  6. Well done police and everyone involved! Hope your son isn't too shaken poor thing and good for him for riding straight to the police!
  7. When you talk about St. Mary's are you talking about the Lindo Wing? Or the regular NHS part of the hospital? Just out of interest.
  8. We used Huggies and never had leaks, but I see that you don't like Huggies from your post. We also made sure that the nappies were snug when fitted, ie, you can fit two fingers inside the top which when the nappy is on, will seem quite tight, but it's fine. This I learned this from the hospital with my first when I wasn't putting the nappies on properly and they were too loose and saggy. Hope that helps.
  9. Then there's this from a while ago.
  10. January 15th Candj (no.3!) - Blue January 26th Vickster - Pink!
  11. My youngest's due date was 7/7/07 which I felt rather dubious about, but luckily she came earlier!
  12. Pazzabitz - if you do a search on this forum you will also pull up a few threads about GG school. Just FYI. Hope that helps.
  13. That's a shame, spokes-woman. We have loads of young children on our street and it's lovely to see them all dressed up and excited about the sweets. We do decorations on our door/windows and have several carved pumpkins so it's pretty obvious we're handing out candy. Oldest child we had last year was maybe 10ish? And no one gets cash that's for certain. I also noticed with every passing Halloween that more and more houses were handing out candy on our road which is nice.
  14. Maybe it's a cultural thing as I've been on buses outside of the UK where able bodied people have offered their seats to my children (ages 3 and almost 6). I allow my 3 year old to sit down but my almost 6 year old loves standing. I too agree with you KidKruger.
  15. We are doing Sunday night, the 31st.
  16. London Recumbent in Dulwich Park (place James mentions) and in SE6 Compton Cycles has them. Hope that helps a bit.
  17. Hi Ruth, I can't exactly remember the price but think it was upwards towards $1000 because my husband insisted on having all the gadgets (what a surprise), ie, the stroller wheels, the bicycle attachment and the jogging kit and of course the baby sling and we got the double so it was more than the single. You can get the basic model which is a lot less. I'll dig through my paperwork as I had to buy the all weather cover here in the UK and I contacted the company in Canada and asked for a local UK retailer. Will let you know. You could probably also contact Balfe's to see if they could order them or at least they would be able to tell you where to go to have a look at them.
  18. We have a double Chariot which I've actually never hooked up to a bicycle, but have only ever used for jogging, er I mean walking. When we purchased it we also purchased the 'baby sling' that fits inside so that a young baby would be more secure (has a padded headrest and harness). It has loads of options, gadgets and storage and takes regular bicycle tyres and they came in a multitude of colours and designs - double buggy, single, all terrain wheels and can easily switch from bike trailer to jogging buggy. We got ours in Canada, but I'm pretty sure you can purchase them here in the UK as I've seen them around.
  19. I think it was the style of the graphics (slightly grainy 80's cartoon) because Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas didn't scare her. Must try old version of King Kong next! Sorry for going off topic, FRM!
  20. Agree Muzzy is very good for keeping up with the language as we have it in Mandarin. It's a very comprehensive way of learning with dvds dedicated entirely to just vocabulary and ones more cartoon like telling stories. I will say the graphics are a bit weird, not exactly Charlie & Lola cutesy which slightly spooked my eldest out when she was younger.
  21. We have the Miele washer/dryer combo and have never looked back. I love it especially because it is truly quiet and I can't hear it when it's on. I think if you do a search by users look up 'The Nappy Lady' as Molly started a few threads about just this with a lot of contributions, pro/cons, price comparisons. Good luck!
  22. No I don't tip my cleaner. She gets a bonus at Christmas and 4 weeks holiday pay.
  23. We use Tuscany Now when we go to Italy. Highly recommended and easy to use website.
  24. How did your alarm not go off if they were inside? Do you have motion detectors inside? Really sorry about your ordeal - esp the photos of children. We use a backup system for our computer which we keep completely separate (on a different floor). Can recommend someone to do this when you're up and running again. Take care.
  25. Also being the second girl my youngest had a dominating big sister to live with all her life (whilst dd1 had a blissful life for the most part). Youngest was lovely and cuddly with mummy and daddy and sweet with everyone and we thought we got away with the terrible twos until she turned three and it's like living with a terrorist sometimes - being manipulative, tittle tattling on her big sister, trying to get a rise out of big sister, always screaming for things to be her way (her vocabulary is much more advanced when dd1 was her age) and in a way that surprises me. It won't necessarily happen to everyone, it's just the dynamic for us with three strong female personalities in the home. Poor daddy, hope next baby is a boy! Sorry for the slight tangent and thread hijack Pebbles!
