I am going to my first pregnancy yoga class at JAGS this evening and was wondering what to expect. I have never done yoga before, so don't know what I need to take. I don't have a mat - will they provide one or shall I take a towel as a substitute? My sister used to go to a yoga class which required you to take a sleeping bag along!! I have phoned JAGS but the girl on the reception wasn't much help. Thanks!

Pampers Baby Dry - chemical burn?!
ladyruskin replied to willjac's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I was just wondering if anyone has reported these incidents to WatchDog or the Consumers' Association? I doubt P&G would like this publicity and, judging by the amount of people experiencing problems here and elsewhere on the internet, I would imaginge it warrants further investigation. -
6 year old complaining of ear pain
ladyruskin replied to The Nappy Lady's topic in The Family Room Discussion
This probably won't help with your question but as a long-term sufferer of ear problems throughout my childhood, I found complaining of an earache worked wonders for a day off school (no outward symptoms in a mild infection). It was especially effective in my teenage years when my mother was working part-time and couldn't take me to the doctors on certain mornings. That said, there were a couple of occasions when, after feigning an earache, I was taken to the doctors to find I that I really had an infection. I would say take her to the doctors just be on the safe side. -
I have banned anything birth-related from the telly. The first episode of the new Peep Show series sent me more than a little crazy and I haven't dared to watch the rest of the series yet! I too am looking into pregnancy yoga classes so if you find a good one (have you seen the posts re the sessions held at King's?) please let me know!

Hi QueenMab, I booked my NCT classes early (and a little edgily as I have become horribly superstitious all of a sudden!). This I did under the advice of a friend who had her baby 18 months ago and found it tricky to get on the classes that were suitable for her pregnancy. I only got asked to book on 24 December though so there may be spaces available, my class is on Saturdays in June (11 & 18), which may be too late for you... My friend also suggested that both NHS & NCT classes are worth attending as they both offer useful advice, plus give you the opportunity to develop your 'mummy network'. I have also heard that the NHS classes held at Dulwich hospital are geared towards the 'King's experience' so if you're booked there they should be pretty handy. I can't help with the different birthing options I'm afraid. As this is my first and I'm a wimp, I am going for a hospital birth with as much support/expertise/drugs on hand if at all needed - sorry! I too am just coming round to the idea of being pregnant, even though it is totally planned and wanted. I have found it a real shock to the system and very difficult to get my head round. I have refused to read any pregnancy books as each time I try, I feel sick at the prospect of things to come. I have found a change in my feelings over the last week or so, since my first scan and now my hormones seem to be settling, but have found the whole idea possibly the scariest and most unsettling experience of my life! Sorry to have rambled a bit, I hope some of it helps in some way...

I admit, Oxford Street was a huge mistake on my part, but I count myself in those who are compelled to spend (this year at least). I wish I could make everyone happy with jars of homemade chutney etc but have tried this in the past and the crest-fallen looks have said it all. It seems that chutney is a nice gift if accompanied by something 'proper'! Just a grumble. I recall my nieces all loving the Sheldon the Turtles I knitted them one year - perhaps I should resolve to start thinking about Christmas earlier and not resort to the high street so much.

It's not even Christmas yet and I have lost the Christmas spirit. The streets are full of shoppers who feel compelled to spend ?????s on their loved ones, buying tonnes of useless tat that no-one needs/wants just prove how much they love them. I'm looking forward to spending time with family but can't help but feel over-whelmed by the consumerism and pressure from shops to spend spend spend. Can someone help me regain a little seasonal spirit before I descend on my family with the spirit of Ebenezer Scrooge instead? :(

I drink over 2 litres of water a day. Hasn't done much for my complexion, all it means is I get woken up at 4am with a very full bladder!

I am suffering too with acne. It's all along my jawline and chin which suggests it's hormonal. As a long-term sufferer of acne outside of pregnancy, I thought I'd had solved the problem over the last 18 months... Not so! I have been assured it will pass after the first trimester though. (Sorry, this is my first post in this group, have been lurking for a while though...)

lordship lane post office 20 mins
ladyruskin replied to Dickensman's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Bobbaz, they have such a machine at the post office near where I work and it has helped reduce queues significantly. The machines are used for posting items using standard delivery and for buying stamps. If you want to send something recorded or special delivery then you have to queue. They operate a ticketing system for the counter services, akin to the deli counter at Sainsbury's, but there are different 'queues' for special delivery and foreign exchange if I remember correctly. Perhaps it's a pilot system that they are considering for wider implementation... -
My Dad was once denied a promotion because he was deemed as being 'too honest'. The again, he was working in Local Government at the time...

My work has a policy that you should make 'every effort' to come in to work and that, if you're unable to get in, you should phone your immediate manager by 10am every day that you are unable to get to work otherwise it will be taken as annual leave or unpaid leave if no annual leave remains. That seems fair enough to me, although every effort is subject to personal interpretation so some people blag more than others... Personally I find it an effort to get out of bed most mornings, never mind get to work, but still managed to trudge through the snow this morning to find colleagues from Clapham and other tube-serviced parts of London hadn't made it - grumble grumble grumble.

If there's going to be a 'best baby/toddler group' category can we have a 'best place to pick up single men above the age of 30' category too - just to balance things out a little, for those of us who are pramless..

Is there any update on this - it sounds fantastic and I am looking forward to it opening!

"Do we tell the people of Kent and suburbia they have to add to their hour long journey - or the people of Camberwell they have to take a bus that takes all of 25 minutes?" Have you ever actually got a bus along the Walworth Road at 8 in the morning? 25 mins is a total fantasy! And I am alone in not relishing a walk home from London Bridge on a dark, cold, rainy winter's evening via E&C? (?) Perhaps in this day and age the GLA should look to promoting establishing offices outside of Central London so that the poor souls from Kent didn't have to trek so far - Citibank have offices in Lewisham for instance IIRC, thus negating the need for any Kentites to access LB at all. -
