Slightly further afield but the Camria does a great quiz on a Thursday evening, kicking off around 9...

If you haven't heard back from the BFing workshops by the time you are 35/6 weeks it's worth giving them a ring so that they can get you on a course asap. I don't have the number to hand unfortunately but it's the same as that for Joanne & Claire.

Pre-baby splurge on a fab hair do
ladyruskin replied to ladyruskin's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm really looking forward to treating myself! I have a local hairdresser who I trust but I really want to splurge on somewhere I wouldn't usually go to. -
Pre-baby splurge on a fab hair do

I sought advise on this very subject from a few hairdressers. They all said that highlights are fine as they don't touch the scalp and therefore the dye isn't absorbed into the bloodstream. They advised that full colour should be avoided as it does touch the scalp. I have had 2 lots of highlights during my pregnancy based on this advice. Edited for clarity -
I start my maternity leave this week and have decided to treat myself to a great hair cut in advance of the impending arrival. I want to be a bit spoiled and pampered with a cut and colour. Can anyone recommend somewhere (doesn't have to be in the immediate vicinity) that would do both and make me feel fabulous? I have a budget in mind, but it seems extravagant even to put it in writing!

sarahshah A few of us are meeting tomorrow night at 7:30 in The Gowlett for drinks and pizza. You're more than welcome to join us, as is anyone else who's free. Re your hips, I have been having problems with mine too. I'm lucky enought to have access to an osteopath at work who has been really helpful with this and my aching back. In addition to his massage (which is in no way relaxing and quite uncomfortable) he has given me some stretches to do at home and told me to ice my hips with bags of peas at least twice a day. The stretch I do is a good old fashioned glut stretch, the one where you cross one leg over the other kind of like this. I have adapted it so I do it sitting upright in a chair. I'm 33 weeks and it's still possible for me to do this - not sure how practical it would be for you.

OK. Pregnant & grumpy here, also liable to burst into tears at any moment (homones, dontcha just love 'em). I am the only pregnant person I know and haven't had a night out without the other half since March (he goes out regularly to watch the football, but apparently that doesn't count...). Is anyone around w/c 23 May for a meal somewhere nice (and local) and maybe a thimble full of wine each? It would be lovely to meet some of you as I have missed the past 2 meet ups, plus it will also help pull myself out of the 'nobody is my friend' doldrums!

We're investing in our first pushchair/travel system and have decided on the Bee+ The place we want to buy it from doesn't have the cocoon available in our chosen colour and they are suggesting we won't really need it anyway and can just go straight for the footmuff. Our baby is due in July so we probably won't it to be super cosy anyway. Do you think we could survive without the cocoon?

This is really a question for second+ time mums... I had a scan at 28 weeks which showed my baby to be weighing 2lb 14oz. The average weight at 28 weeks (according to BabyCentre) is 2.22lb which I take to mean a fraction over 2lb 2oz. Does this mean I'm in line for a monster baby? Is the fetal weight from scans always accurate?

Recommendations for nursing necklace
ladyruskin replied to bluesuperted's topic in The Family Room Discussion
True - the one I have in mind wouldn't co-ordinate with most of my clothes anyway! I don't like it but it's got big beads that are tied on to the string, so it's pretty solid... -

Do you have to get a special type of necklace or will any long, beady one do? -
Breast feeding documentary on tonight..
ladyruskin replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I am expecting my first baby in July and I have had episodes of depression prior to and during the pregnancy. I hope to be able to breastfeed exclusively but am prepared for the fact that it may be better for me & my baby to bottle feed (either using expressed milk or formula) if I have problems after the birth. My sister is a paediatric nurse and works with a team of health visitors (she is also training to be one). She is well-known in my circle of friends for evangelising about breast-feeding. When I mentioned my plans to her, she lectured me about how terrible it would be and that introducing a bottle to a new baby is the worst thing to do if I am hoping to breastfeed. She even started quoting UNICEF guidelines to me with a sour look of disappointment on her face. I haven?t even started breast-feeding yet, but already feel let down not only by the NHS but by my own sister who obviously doesn?t consider my mental health to be an important factor in the happiness of my baby. I know health visitors are there for the care of baby but some consideration must be given to helping the mother. Isn?t a mother?s state of mind and self-esteem as crucial as breast-milk in helping the baby to thrive?
