I am astonished to read that any parent of an academic child would want him or her to be educated with a random distribution of children. I would want such a hypothetical child to be stretched and to be able to compete in the world he or se should end up in ie a high achieving one. I would not want such a child to think he or she was awfully clever just because he or she was top in a class of mixed ability, only to end up without the skills to compete or survive at a top university thereafter. Am I missing something? Where is the gain to an academic child in spending time with less able contemporaries? You wouldn't do it with good runners, would you?

This is very interesting. I had assumed most people bathed children every night and did hair too, as we have always done. I started as I was told by a friend that it was good for establishing a routine/ helpful with sleep patterns and we were very keen to have children who were easy to get to bed and long sleepers. It worked but I am not sure what would have happened if they hadn't liked water. Both would happy pour a cup of water in their eyes as "play" and giggle like maniacs. In retrospect, probably quite unusual...

You wanted to attach it to a seat and use during the flight? -
Is there any mileage in asking them to cite flats they have sold at that price per sf recently? similar streets obviously essential component...

My family lived in palace road in the40s

Thank you SO much. Your recollections are fascinating, Computed. -
I think it is a concern as more and more people work from home and so are getting important deliveries. I agree the "before 8 and mid morning" deliveries were super, with hindsight...

All this is just tinkering with the edges (including my posts). Surely the key differentiating aspect is sleep. Get enough sleep and you can at least choose to be cool if you want to. wake twice a night with a six monther or older and I wldnt have felt very cool or even human.

Surely men are constantly "on the look out" and it is the role of the woman to choose whether the man's gene pool is good enough?

In cave terms, surely total - not just partial, SW- submission of the mother to the egotistical monster is best? This way, the squealer gets at least one strong adoring parent to protect him or her. I'm surprised that women fight this. I went along with it and still do, albeit with analytical resentment (!). Otoh, perhaps I am being illogical and inconsistent saying that. I certainly fought other "cave" aspects eg method of giving birth. Each to her own?

Theft on Lordship Lane, easy target Mum with buggy
new mother replied to busymum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Very sorry to hear. Can you remember any more about them? Clothes etc? Obviously you must report it to the police (and cancel the cards if not already done). What a shame. -
Single mum of teenage boy needs advice
new mother replied to hilili's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Act sooner than later and don't wait to see what happens. Nip it in the bud now. It's unacceptable and the school needs to deal with it. -
One of the effects of older eggs is that their lifespan once released is much shorter. So, in order to maximise the sperm and egg meeting, you should ensure a constant supply of fresh sperm. there are other issues such as "transport" which would have to be looked at too, after a certain age.

Agree with all the above. I might still read the book. It was disappointing as we get so few chances to go out....

What crime is the EDL guilty of? Because, you know, if it is really inciting racial hatred etc as claimed, there are laws to deal with it already. You don't ban the march. You let it go ahead and, if a law is broken, you swoop down on the perpetrator. Isn't that policing?!

Any views? We have just been and I am loth to reveal the plot....

Faith schools when you're not religious... wrong?
new mother replied to Sanne Panne's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Very nicely put and very decent of you not to go for a faith place. Many people suddenly discover religion and lose principle at this stage. I don't know what they do faithwise at all but, given the tolerance and "reasonableness" of your post, can't see that you would find it a problem. -
Security! It is an indirect compliment. Tougher carers don't inspire total confidence and security. Good mummies do. :-)

What did you wear when you gave birth?
new mother replied to Strawbs's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hospital gowns for sections. I looked a fright as the photos accurately record. -
Did anyone have a bike stolen last night?
new mother replied to Spinky100's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
What did the police say when you reported it? Presumably they are pursuing "channels", as they say.... -
Stuart turner monsoon pump question (seriously!)
new mother replied to new mother's topic in The Lounge
Chick, yes thanks. I didtry them as soon as the fault was diagnosed and they caveated their answer with a lot of possible issues that might arise so I was really none the wiser. -
Mansion tax - lib dems or Vince Cable at least
new mother replied to new mother's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Loz, thanks. You immediately fixed my woolly logic. The point is that no cash has been realised and the "profit" is a paper one. How can people be expected to pay for a non existent profit? Furthermore, what happens in a downturn? Does the govt give back the cash when the value of the property dips. No, off pissing it certainly is that many of my friends geared themselves to the hilt 20 years ago and now live in mega houses the rest of us cannot afford but that is the extent of it. Off pissing it stays. There is nothing to be done about it. They made a smart longsighted decision. -
Funding it is clearly a joke. The event itself sounds perfectly ghastly but not as frightening as the idea of an "Irish shop".

To cut a long story short, the damn thing's leaking and I've ordered a little pack of, inter alia, rubber gaskets which are the things that are causing the problem. The chap charges by the half hour and is very much of the, "it'll take as long as it takes" persuasion. Funny that. Can anyone give me a vague idea of how long such an operation takes as currently I feel sure I will be ripped off. Thanks
