A message to the morons..............
new mother replied to peckham parkie's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
They are morons and well done to the park supervisor. We need to support him if the lady comes back. As for the rest of the comments on this thread, please get a grip and assess whether your obsession with pc behaviour is restricting your life somewhat. Someone said he/she had spent a day doing "person centred planning interviews" - without apparently seeing what a ridiculous use of language this is. Maybe it was a joke. Am I paying tax for such nonsense? -
Man at front door asking if I want windows cleaned?
new mother replied to cate's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Why are people being so rude? The op is asking a reasonable question. I suspect he is a con man owing to the card thing or maybe shy and didn't have a card.it doesn't matter. Pay after the event and, even if raining etc outside, don't let in while you go to get money. -
Dog poo no longer removed promptly

I always just clear it up if near the house. What a fool I am. I should be relying on the state for more and surely at least it could do one small thing for my taxes....this could be it... -
Dulwich ballet school term dates - help!

Many thanks, Miss Zoe. Will consider and come back to you if we want to take it further. -
In my form at school there were 25 girls, one of whom had asthma and a nut allergy. Now I hear frequently of children at school or nursery with xyz allergy. Possible reasons: 1. Better and earlier diagnosis. Possible but many of the parents of my friends were doctors (as the school was handy for drop offs if you worked in a big hospital nearby). One would have thought they of all people would have noticed the symptoms. Maybe not. Cobblers children shoes etc. 2. Insufficient exposure to early germs - too clean houses? Immune system is therefore very shocked when it encounters a new substance and goes down the route of heightened response. 3. Something dietary of the mother/ child once born is unnatural and triggers the reaction. Formula? Hope not as both my Ch were formula fed from day 1. 4. Fashion - fir the sake of completeness, it had to go in as a possibility. Other? There are frequent studies done on this sort of thing but nothing beats forumites observation Of the world around us. Tell me the definitive answer that the studies are failing to arrive at....

Wise forumites, If you rent out a flat, do you typically ask the parents for a guarantee of rent? if notthe parents, who? The employer? I am asking as a friend is renting out for the first time and I have just read something about tenants not paying etc on the forum. Many thanks

What yields do you reckon straightforward two bedders generate? (by "straightforward", I mean central ED location, non basement, reasonable condition, prof tenants etc. I do not mean auction purchase, needs doing up style properties which obviously command a higher yield on the original price.) Annette, you are very cruel.

Dulwich ballet school term dates - help!
new mother replied to largeginandtonic's topic in The Family Room Discussion
How interesting. Thank you so much, Trinity. Funnily enough, I did Cecchetti for a few years myself as I very much wanted to have a particular teacher who swore by it. I found it much harder to get good grades than with RAD and the actual exercises and barre-work were more challenging eg holding developes for much longer etc. However, this teacher was rather an outlier hence why I would like the girls to follow a more mainstream syllabus. I think I'll get in touch with DBS this week - thank you again. -
Dulwich ballet school term dates - help!
new mother replied to largeginandtonic's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Maybe I should have started a new thread but I just wanted to ask- we are looking for quite a serious school(in as much as you can be serious as a child) for the girls. The reason I say this is that three generations of the family have been serious about ballet and my mother was, in particular. She considered it as a career. Anyway, we want somewhere that puts children in for RAD exams and where the teaching is, well again, serious. Do you think that DBS is the answer and, if not, where would you recommend? Many thanks for any suggestions. -
Question for teachers reading the forum....
new mother replied to new mother's topic in The Family Room Discussion
How very interesting. Thank you for all your posts. J am starting to wonder if it is all about how some children learn and that, if that is in a non conventional way, they are more likely to lag behind and come through later on. That would fit with the boy thing as boys are less prepared to sit and concentrate on books indoors early on, ime. Of course it begs the massive question - how do you measure intelligence- which is another issue entirely! -
Eczema cream that actually works?
new mother replied to HollieES's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Most children and people I know with asthma have eczema and sorry to say but allergy too. I would steer clear of nuts for little ones accordingly and watch very carefully, just in case. A girl at school had asthma, went to university and had a nut based curry with tragic consequences I am afraid. -
Question for teachers reading the forum....
new mother replied to new mother's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks. That makes perfect sense as clearly a 4.9 year old child could be quite different from one who has just turned four and could well catch up over time. My husband insists there were pupils at his school who suddenly managed a mega developmental phase aged about 15 and did fabulously in eg A levels when their previous exam results - O levels in our day! - had been fairly hopeless. I wonderif he just remembers it this way. Otoh, there were girls at school who had been very bright who dropped out of the picture and reverse developed if you like. It was put down to previous parental involvement tailing off and the playing field getting a bit flatter. -
I am interested to hear your views on children's development through the primary school. Do you find that he ones who are top stay top throughout - as was the case in my school more or less- or is the much mentioned "late developer" a reality? I don't have any reason for asking save that my husband and I disagree on it(!) so your views will be fascinating and very welcome either way.

If doing it electronically be sure to have it backed up! This is one of our biggest regrets - so busy and overwhelmed that few memories of the most wonderful time of our lives....

Is there any upside to be played in Nunhead? Just feels to me like ED is getting expensive - though worth it- and that there might be some easier and faster gains still over there? what do people think? Which is the best school currently?
-
Getting nervous about nunhead! It is actually getting quite nice, isn't it?(!) (meant as a compliment to those who had the sense to buy there a while back plus the owner of this new deli. It sounds great!)

Will read H and MM properly but, H, regarding sterling, this is exactly why I say that mobility of labour forces and a common language are essential. Same goes for the USD.
-
I would lovethe euro to have worked. However, I have never seen how, sans mobility of labour and a common language, it ever could be more than an ambition of a eurocrat. The problem is fundamental - once you give up control over ir policy, you rely on the rate setter having the same considerations as your country requires. Clearly, euro Europe involves a number of countries the economies of which will NEVER be in sync. A rate which is right for some will not be right for others, save by random chance. This is ok ish if you are doing well and can take the hit of an unsuitable level of ir but disastrous if doing badly. The whole idea is intrinsically flawed, sadly. To return to the actual query, I don't know. Break up and relaunch with various tiers? That could actually work, depending on how the tiers are comprised. Devaluation by eg 40pc? Bad for us as german exports would suddenly get very cheap and wipe us out.
