  1. I think they are trying to encourage you to invite everyone, perhaps?
  2. Bea, see my other post but yes drop in would work v well. (for us at least.)
  3. Absolutely agree Bea. The term commitment thing is no good for most of us. I end up wasting so many sessions owing to sleeps (thank goodness!) and last minute feeding requirements. Drop in would work very well for us.
  4. Heating on as they cannot have many blankets. THe bag thing is only for after a certain age in our case around 6 m I think....
  5. Sorry cannot help but jsut to say well done on the new job, (especially in this climate)
  6. Caro Green - I'm glad you said "normally". They certainly don't necessarily have the mechanisms to wake when hungry and if not putting on weight etc, closer attention must be given to when they are waking. OP, while I agree it's important to be tactful, for me personally and Im sure for your daughter, the knowledge that grandma is obsessed by her granddaughter is very reasssuring and lovely security to have. Id speak up on this/any issues. When your daughter said should she put an alarm on, the answer is...errr yes absolutely. Belle, re prvate hospitals, Im afraid that theya re all too aware of who pays the bill and the fact that the parents want an easy life. I use private medicine a great deal but I never would for birth etc. (seldom an emergencey facilities and I know of too many women who have died unecessarily as a result...)
  7. I was told clearly by the post natal ward to wake my babies every 3 hours religiously and to set my watch accordingly. I thought it was a bit draconian but only last week heard of the baby of friends - for whom they had waited nearly a decade but that's by the way - who had to be rushed back into hospital on a drip after some damn fool advised them it was ok to let her sleep a long as she liked. Tempting though it is to let them sleep, I'd be waking her long before 6 hours.
  8. If they are genuinely well made, it is a good time to buy and you could get a bargain as the Stokke is the fashionable one now. The shops will be dumping their Bgboo stock.
  9. Stokke is the thing now apparently...about the same price but better. (I had neither!)
  10. thanks what does the baby do while you are exercisng? watch? like powerpramming? thanks
  11. "Am reminded of a good friend who, when out in busy cafes, became enraged when people sat down at tables to nab seats before queing for their food and beverages. He considered this to be terrible, anti-social behaviour. It got beyond complaining to bemused friends / family: he would actually confront strangers in cafes. At the time, he was not in a good place in terms of his mental health and now looks back with embarrassment/amusement." Smiler, Im with him on this one! As you/he say/says it is frightfully anti social and wastes a table.
  12. Apenn,[and with more apols to FM] Youa re totally right. I know one thing only about home births. It takes longer to get from my house to theatre than from a ward to theatre. That is the one thing I know with certainty and it was more than enough for me. Otherwise, as I said in my original post, if you are fair, the home birth idea is indeed tempting. FidgetsMum, Don't think twice about this. The staff are immeasureably better than other stories I've heard about maternity wards etc. The ward was ...gosh....clean. The loos were...gosh...spotless and so was the shower. The post natal nurses are really nice, helpful, non judgmental re bf or not, and basically seem to have got the idea that their job is to help you and your baby get well and home. That goes for the paediatricians we met, the cons surgeon, everyone. Hurrah. edit for sp
  13. It is especially cool as you didn't know and weren't starstruck like the rest of the country. Can you get hold of the originals? You could add those photos at the very very beginning of any baby book you've put together...
  14. I wanted safe births, end of story. I didn't care a jot about the rest of it. Homebirths have NEVER appealed to me for that reason. If something goes wrong, and with first births, you have no clue how it will go, regardless of how easy a pgcy you've had, you are a taxi ride via London traffic at least away from the hospital. PLease think twice about this anyone reading this who. like all of us would be tempted by the positive home birth stories - of which there are many of course. If something goes wrong, you are in serious trouble. OK, having said that. We had 2 very positive experiences of elective sections at Kings and would thoroughly recommend for reasons of cleanliness, professionalism, organisation and competence. THat goes for the theatre staff and the post natal ward. Good luck. it will be fantastic.
  15. I agree it's not on, Ruth. Why do they think you are going back? For fun??? Because you enjoy paying a fortune in tax, NI and nannies? No, to earn money to give your child a better life. Grrrrr!
  16. We love Latchmere!
  17. Apropos skin marks, I'd like to raise everyone's awareness of "cafe au lait" marks. THese are pale brown - hence the name - in colour but, contrary to strawberry marks, if a child has many of these, it can unfortunately indicate some very serious illnesses. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caf%C3%A9_au_lait_spot Don't want to worry people unnecessarily, but if you find any of your child, they must be checked out and preferably by a specialist. GP should refer on seeing them. OTOH, many many children have some - I was at school with girls who had a few - and of course they led to nothing, so PLEASE do not worry unnecessarily.
  18. the agent is no doubt desperately keen for it to go ahead so I'd get him/her on side. Ditto the surveryor who did your survey - good idea to get him/her back. lastly and not wishing toyimpugn the motives of your buyer, have you actually seen the lender's letter or is he/she just reporting it all?
  19. I'm very interested in Ligurosity's post - have I got your name right??- apols if not. He/she said that the GCSE pass rate increased from 30 to 50pc with the previous academy. Now, setting aside the fact that stat can mislead and be manipulated, let us assume that these nos are reasonable ones. He/she also made what I consider to be the critical point when judging academies - is the intake the same if they are just cherry picking the best ch locally, arguably leaving the rump in even worse sink schools behind, then I'm not impressed by increased pass rates. If, as Lig says is the case, the intake was substantially the same, I'm delighted.
  20. Agree with Fuschia. I had a weird experience when they cldn't tell me how much the delivery would be and I gave up at that point.
  21. Friend recommended a shop called Magi (as in the CHristmas story) which had nice things from this co: www.dotcomgiftshop.com you can order on line or go to the actual shop (Brockley Road, along from Crofton Park for any Monkey Music attendees). If you go to the shop, it charges the same, or at least, the same as far as my purchases were concerned.
  22. undiagnosed breech? good god, how did that happen in the modern age?!
  23. we've ended up taking a lot of unpaid leave unfortunately...
