Closure of Melbourne Grove to through traffic - new petition
EDAus replied to tiddles's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Agreed BrandNewGuy - I live on Ashbourne Grove and no-one has approached us until two days before the meeting, after months and months they could not find the time to pop around the corner consult us?? I am starting to believe that this was a deliberate attempt by Melbourne Traffic Action to ensure that any residents with concerns or opposition were not given the opportunity to speak out and be heard. One of the reasons I moved to ED was the community minded spirit - where is this in Melbourne Grove South? Do not all the residents of ED deserve safe streets? Where will all the traffic/cars go? This will merely redistribute traffic onto already congested neighbouring roads - Townley Road, Lordship Lane, East Dulwich Grove, Matham Grove, Chesterfield Grove and Ashbourne Grove. Congestion leads to additional traffic delays and additional pollution. How will all the cars parked on Melbourne Grove South get out - not down Ashbourne Grove this road is already at capacity and with two banks on the main corner, at times cars cannot even exist. Chesterfild Grove are getting M&S at the top section in addition to the car wash? Are the residents of Melbourne Grove South going to give up their vehicles? What about stopping the emergency services from using this route and avoiding the 9 lights/junction on Lordship Lane? -
Closure of Melbourne Grove to through traffic - new petition

According to the letter distributed by the Melbourne Grove Traffic Action - 'Some of the Councillors asked if instead we'd consider 'Filtered Permeability'' 'After several weeks of door knocking, 138 residents (over half be believe) have signed a petition supporting a barrier at a point between Tell and Ashbourne Grove' I have now spoken directly to 7 residents on Ashbourne Grove, not one was approached in person regarding traffic issues on Melbourne Grove or to sign any petition. Further, each of the 7 residents has spoken to further individuals within the street who have provided similar feedback. Some did receive a last minute letter through the mail box two days before the Dulwich Community Council meeting. Really it not that hard we are just around the coroner (I can provide directions!) - why did they not consult residents in Tell and Ashbourne Grove? Without a doubt the proposal would improve the 'quality of life' for the individuals on Melbourne Grove South but what about neighbouring streets and residents? -

Bels123 - thanks for raising this point, it is very relevant and should be included in any feasibility study. Apologies for overlooking the North side of Melbourne Grove, it is easy to get distracted by your own concerns/issues. Ianr - thanks for the additional data. So in summary: 2009 - 2,035 vehicles per day on the Southern end of Melbourne Grove 2015 - approx 2,000 vehicles per day on the Southern end of Melbourne Grove So no major statistical increase in aprox 6 years? It does raise questions about the statements made in the letter we received from the Melbourne Grove Traffic Action Group which cited 'excessive traffic volume' as an issue. Where the same statements made at the Dulwich Community Council? Edhistory - the person who signed the letter we received sign it with their name/contact details and Melbourne Grove Traffic Action. Sorry cannot provide further details. -

Living on Ashbourne Grove I am very understanding of the issues around speeding and inconsiderate drivers/riders etc, both ourselves and neighbours have experienced similar issues/concerns to those described by the residents of Melbourne Grove. I still have lots of questions/concerns based around: 1) consultation with neighbouring impacted residents - how will any future proposals be communicated, how will all the residents voices be heard? We would have happily turned up to the meeting this week however we were only informed on Monday/Tuesday via a letter through our door which stated ?In the next few day?s , I will be presenting our concerns and idea?s to the Dulwich Community Council? - no date, time or address details were given to attend the meeting. Further it appears that only one option was presented by the Melbourne Grove Traffic Action Group - the closure of Melbourne Grove between Tell Grove and Ashbourne Grove. We would have attended this meeting but had a pre-existing engagement. 2) displacement of the traffic onto equally narrow and busy roads i.e. Ashbourne Grove, Matham Grove - how will such issues be measured? If Lordship Lane has an accident or a build-up of traffic, northerly traffic will still use Melbourne Grove to avoid the lights near William Rose and Iceland, there by turning into Ashbourne Grove to re-access/join Lordship Lane. Further, cars will still be able to turn from East Dulwich Grove onto Matham Grove, then onto Lordship Lane heading South. Thus the problems and issues are re-routed to Ashbourne Grove and Matham Grove. 3) what other traffic calming measures have been explored ? One way street systems, chicane?s, flashing speed signs, speed camera?s, access restricting bollards, full width speed bumps, reducing parking to only one side of the street at all times, restricting parking on one side during peak hours of usage to ensure the safe passage of peak hour traffic? 4) Police Traffic Survey report While lots of stat's have been presented, is 15% of people going over 26pmh higher than average for the road in ED/London? Have studies been conducted on other roads within ED? When does the speeding occur, is it at peak times during the day with multiple road users i.e. children/commuters etc? Anyone willing to post the full report of the EDF? 5) emergency vehicle access and response times. Often when Lordship Lane is busy or blocked due to accidents or incidents we have blue lights come down Ashbourne Grove - what alternative routes will be available? How will the emergency services be consulted? In using the full length of Melbourne Grove to cut out Lordship Lane the services miss 6 major lights/junctions ? how much would this proposal add to an emergency transfer time? I would hope that our elected councillors would show due regard to the concerns listed above and incorporate them into the proposed feasibility study. Further I would hope that the feasibility study and consultation period do not run over school term breaks when a majority of residents are not available to provide responses etc. -

James - how can local residents provide input into the development of the feasibility study? Has a group, other than the Melbourne Grove delegation, been established, if so how do people join it? If no group has been established are local residents living on potentially impacted streets i.e. Ashbourne Grove, Tell Grove, Matham Grove, Chesterfield Grove interested in forming one? -
Closure of Melbourne Grove to through traffic - new petition
EDAus replied to tiddles's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We live on Ashbourne Grove and will be directly impacted by any proposed changes - we only received a letter through our door at the beginning of this week (Monday or Tuesday from memory). Prior to this letter we had never been asked to signed a petition or approached by any concerned residents. James I look forward to seeing the pack developed by the residents of Melbourne Grove as we have growing number of questions. -
We live on Ashbourne Grove and only received a letter through our door at the beginning of this week nor have we been approached to sign any petition or have we been door knocked by any concerned residents. We would have attended the meeting last night however we had a school meeting which had been booked in months in advance.

DBS (old CRB check) for nanny Ofsted registration
EDAus replied to HelloDulwich!'s topic in The Family Room Discussion
Checks are now completed by the Disclosure and Barring Service - https://www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check/overview Disclosure customer services [email protected] Telephone: 0870 909 0811 Minicom: 0870 909 0344 If you send an email include the full name, address, telephone number and any DBS reference numbers. I would contact DBS in the first instance, it may be possible for you to request the check as the employer, however as you would do under 100 checks per year, I think you would need to apply via an Umbrella body (list of bodies - https://dbs-ub-directory.homeoffice.gov.uk/). Hope this make sense and helps. -
I would take a look at Edtots http://www.edtots.co.uk/

What are people's experiences with using zipcar locally ?
EDAus replied to clare's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Unfortunately our experience with Zipcar has not been as positive the main problems being: 1) dirty vehicles - chicken bones, take away rubbish, some oily patches on the window that even with window cleaner did not come off, dirt and plant materials in the car etc 2) no fuel, having to change plans and spend time from your booking filling up the car 3) problems with the car that they emailed us to fix e.g. tyre pressure - took 20 mins of our booking to sort out 4) damage to the car - someone had tried to move something too large inside and damaged the centre glove box and inside of the car 5) bookings being moved - we have booked a car on a street near us, at the last minute we received a text stating the booking had been moved to another vehicle on the other side of East Dulwich over 15 minutes walk away from the original booking. When we called they told us eventually someone had written off the car we booked, nothing else was left so we had to put up with whatever was available or go without. 6) unreliable no car in the bay - when I called them I was told to search the street which I did for 15 mins in the rain with arms full of shopping. Eventually I asked them to track the vehicle, they refused to tell me what had happened to the car, after requesting to speak to someone more senior I was told that the car had been tracked and was miles away, basically the person had not bothered to return it. They transferred the booking to another car which was again over 15 mins walk away as it was the only option available at zero notice. As a nice touch they started the booking charge straight away so I was paying to walk to alternative car. We ended up an hour and half late for our appointment. Each time we have complained and they state that the issue/s will be dealt with directly with the member etc but in our experience it is getting worse rather than better. We have started using Enterprise in Peckham Rye, they have been more helpful friendly and reliable. -
I saw a black car hit on the corner of North Cross Road and Lacon Road tonight at 6.10pm, the impact made a very loud crunch noise. It was hit by a silver golf car - sorry I tried to get a picture of the car/driver but they noticed me and drove away dangerously into North Cross Road without even checking for traffic. The registration started with FLO and had a C and 03 I think - sorry I tried to note it down quickly. I left a note on the black car - sorry I could not get more details.

When visiting family in Wiltshire we came across a great garden centre with a cafe and children's play centre - climbing frame, sand pit and ride on tractors etc. I am a keen gardener and I was just wondering does anyone know of anything like this within easy driving distance of ED/London i.e. 40mins to an hour?

Hi a silver Nissan 5 door car has been parked in the Zip car (car share) bay since yesterday morning and I noticed this morning it had been ticketed by Southwark. If anyone knows who owns the car - please let them know to move it or it will keep attracting tickets. If anyone needs any further details please send me a private message.

Hi I called the foodbank in Peckham and my other half dropped off some food around Xmas time and earlier this year -they were really friendly and grateful for the donations. I have also dropped off some items at the Foodbank in Westminster. They normally ask you to call first to make sure that someone can be around to let you in etc - sometimes they are staffed by volunteers and/or have very busy paid staff who are trying to speak to customers etc. Feel free to message me if you have any further questions - happy to help.

Donations Urgently needed - Hostel at the top of Barry road
EDAus replied to SebsC's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I donated some things today (books, toys and baby clothes) and the staff were very grateful. I asked if they needed anything in particular at the moment just in case we had something that they could use lying around the house. They mentioned that they could really use donations of good quality suitcases/bags, cutlery, china, sauce pans and bed linen. Things that would help people set up a home once they are ready to leave the hostel. Just a reminder the hostel is at the top of Barry Road, there is a drive that you can drive straight into and people there to help you unload anything you can donate.
