  1. Its a guy at the end of Hillcourt/ Goodrich near Donkey alley who does the work on scooters to soup them up. Therefore, the local kids come to visit him late at night to get work done. Therefore, its not actually that easy to deal with, unless he is trading illegally... Trading standards may be the best approach along with the rozzers.
  2. I know the owner of the bike. Can you give a description of the car? Make, colour etc etc.
  3. -- moved topic --
  4. I noticed on other threads comments that some of the older regular posters have drifted off. As one of the early adopters who also stopped using the forum for some time (after being ranted at by another user who was roundly condemned for their opinions at the time) I wondered what other people thought about the levels of unfair or aggressive criticism on the forum. Recently, an aggressive poster has been banned, but i wondered how many people just read the hostile posts and think 'I'm outta here...?'. I am glad to see local businesses are taking less off a bashing these days - but it seems to have got personal instead. Thoughts?
  5. The reason the EDF works is because there are: 1. A high percentage of home workers in SE22 2. Lots of mums and dads who don't get out much (enough!) 3. Its a friendly open bit of London with a reasonable sense of community. It also has loads of gatecrashers!
  6. I'm with you there. I look at it in much the same way as the kid who got hit by a bus last year. Terrible and tragic, but I am not increasingly scared of being flattened by the no12. I am more concerned about a 747 landing on us... but that is my own weird phobia. A shooting near where I live is certainly a terrible thing - as is any shooting anywhere, but I am no more or less at risk of being shot now than yesterday morning. Shootings tend - based on anecdotal evidence, to be in some way linked to the victim. Therefore, if I keep away from drugs, gangs, criminals and people involved with guns, the chances are I will have a safe, but boring life. Unfortunately this also means certain demographics are more at risk, but we all make our own beds.
  7. Is it like being the only gay in the village?! miffy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Okay I am a huge supporter of East Dulwich, > because after all it is the centre of the > universe, but even I am struggling as a single > approaching 40 female, to meet and socialise with > other single friends. 8. Try it yourself and make up your own mind?
  9. Jeremy - I supose british food is just boiled beef and suet? Get out of your closed mind man! Turkish food can be a wonderfrul combination of fresh fragrant herbs and salads with tender infused meats grilled or stewed - think of a combination of greek mezze and arabic food. The pide mentioned above are a revelation. Good on you anatolia - we need achange from thai and indian. Jeremy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hmm... Anatolia. 10. Have a look at your neighbours. The herne do a good, well priced menu in a place that is family friendly. Si Mangia do good italian well priced food and are family friendly The cafe on peckham rye doe a good balanced array of foods and is family friendly. Seeing a trend here?? Keep the food authentic, well priced, some good wines (which do not need to be expensive) and make sure there is room for the mums on maternity during the day and there is a changing station in BOTH toilets and you should be onto a winner. Put me down for a table on your opening night. I'm a big fan of the food the old anatolia did.
  11. Those drugs figures are way off. Its snowing indoors in ED too. 12. Good good. Can we also have a bus to Honor Oak from East Dulwich pls? All we need is the 63 or 363 to be extended by a few hundred metres. HH and TJ - maybe you can force Boris into this one too?
  13. Honestly, what a bunch of idiots. If she knocks on the door, say ooh, oh dear etc at all the right bits, tell her to wait on the door step while you go and get your wallet, shut the door and go and get your camera, stich flash on , open door and bam. Last you will ever see of her. Failing that, punch her in the gob.
  14. I think the council would do well to spend their money refurbishing the pavement from the palmeston to Goose green. Is way too narrow, too uneven with too much street furniture to accommodate the masses ranks of prams. The raised crossings are a good idea too. It would be nice to make the area nor walking friendly without making it a total nightmare for cars. We need both modes of transport to work well - pedestrians are in short supply at 10 on a tuesday and therefore should not have automatic row (right of way) 24/7.
  15. we also live on Hillcourt and have a visiting cat we can't get rid of. He / she is a 4-5 yr black and white shorthair with collar and seems to come from either overhill or further up Hillcourt. He/she eats its body weight in food each day so if anyone has a cat that hits the above description and your cat strangely eats nothing but is maintaining weight, pls change your food to ocean flavour Iams as that is what it likes.... We are doing everything we can to keep it out, but are losing the war...
  16. Excellent - It is one of two eyesores in that strip. Anyone got more info??
  17. ?42k. That covers the cost of one full time (35 hrs a week) Community officer to cover plus some stickers to put in our windows. Put another way, ?42k is the average income of a burglar in SE22. BTW one survery states SE22 is 35% black or Asian. I would say that is a very mixed racial group and apparently we are middle income, middle educated and middle ranking professionally. Pretty average eh?!
  18. I am torn both ways by this. While I agree more areas of london need support and funding, removing this from areas which have self-invested is very unfair. For example, is it not the local population who look after their homes, shop in local stores, educate their children locally, invest their time and efforts in the community who make the area 'desirable'. I believe it is the residents of ED who have made this a place we all want to live in. It is also a folly to invest in infrastructure which cannot be supported. I will get off the fence to say that you look after your own back yard, and friends who live off the walworth road bemoan the fact that the local residents simply don't look after the place or put any effort in. When someones does try to help (putting tree in) they just wreck them. North cross is a success as is sells the products the local population wants. Put Northcross market in Peckham and i can only guess what the response would be. Look at the pathetic farmers market in Peckham - it simply isn't doing enough business to sustain itself. Harman has also selected a very odd area to point her finger at - surely Dulwich Village would have been more appropriate? I choose to live and invest my time and money in ED because I like the people and like the area. I first lived her 15 years ago and a lot had to change to make we want to return. This chage was due to locals investing as well as the government. To reduce funding because we are the 'have's' will send a very strong signal that taking pride and care of your area serves no purpose. Surely local endeavor should be rewarded.
  19. Is it just me, or is it also full of the wrong stuff? I went in to bu some basic baby feeding stuff and it was hopeless and totally outdated. Sorry, but keep up or fail. I would much rather see a boots there.
  20. I love the massive structural approach to snow building!
  21. For those who can't get to it... worth a look!
  22. I have just got back home after an hour wandering round the shops trying to find some food. While the shops were pretty much bare, the people of ED were in the best mood ever! I have never seen this area in such a happy, polite and generally good natured mood. Good to see the pubs doing a roaring trade too! I'm back off out for more of the same!
  23. greyhound cars on northcross road. ?40 and are usually pretty punctual. I use them 2-3 times a month for airport runs and they have always got me there in reasonable speed and comfort (although 2 have honked their horns at 4am which is totally unacceptable).
  24. Read dulwichdolls post.
  25. I hear there is a proper gym (ie one you can join and then never attend) opening near forest hill. Its only a 5 min bus ride and free parking eves and weekend.
