Breast feeding guru lady contact details
wellington replied to Samantha Forest's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The La Leche League (LLL) South East London meetings take place in the areas you mentioned. This is their website which gives details of their meetings: http://lllselondon.weebly.com/ What sort of person had your friend heard of (i.e. was it a professional) and what sort of advice was she looking for? -
They are not vegan if they ate meat and not even vegetarian. It sounds like they are a fussy or faddish eater.
-
Blue Brick Cafe is vegetarian and I think they have vegan options. A bit further I really like Greenz restaurant in Tulse Hill where there is a very good vegan selection.

Thanks for the input and advice. I think we'll wait till school returns and go during the week with our clubcard vouchers. I'm sure he'll love it though. He will either go swimming (which is a treat as he is no.2 and he has only been a few times in his life) or horse riding instead.

I'm just wondering whether it is worth it to visit the London Aquarium/Sealife Centre? I've only ever paid minimal entry costs to events and sights but it is my son's 4th birthday coming up, he loves animals and sea creatures and we've never been so I wondered if we should consider visiting. I'd love all your opinions please.

home visits for reception children
wellington replied to wellington's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Pripolla, yes, he did attend nursery there but the teacher is new and she couldn't make the meeting that was scheduled. Otta, is your little one going to Bessemer in September? I can't remember seeing anything in the information pack or anything being mentioned at the head teacher's talk. -
I read on another thread about reception teachers making home visits to the new children starting in their class and have also heard of this elsewhere. Is this standard for local schools? There was nothing in our information pack about this so I wonder if this doesn't happen at our school (Bessemer).

There are also hives on Melbourne Grove between the Italian and the solicitors.

Congratulations on getting a place - I'm sure you'll love it. I have two children that attend and really like it. My boys wear Sainsburys polos, sweatshirts and tracksuit bottoms and they are all cotton. I have bought the items with the logo on them but they always get lost and even though they are labelled they go missing.

So....which water plays are open people?
wellington replied to The Nappy Lady's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Just wondered if anyone can give updates on water plays that are open and working? We were about to set off when I thought to check this thread. -
Well, I'm happy to say that, after the upteenth time turning him over, he has finally stayed in that position and seems much better. My little one found him in an empty pot filled with water and thankfully too as he is the most magnificient one we have seen so far. I have seen at least 10 in the last 2 weeks and on about 4 occasions have seen them in flight. For the last 2 1/2 hours our little friend has been devouring some peach we've given him.

I posted this in the main section and someone, kindly, suggested I post it here: We have had an abundance of stag beetles this year. I have also finally seen many in flight too. They don't seem to be able to right themselves when the are on their back. If I turn them over they just flip themselves again. There is a right beast in our garden just now who is absolutely going manic and there doesn't seem to be anything we can do to help them. I would be grateful for any helpful advice anyone could give.

August baby. School age cut off date advice needed
wellington replied to dirty tree's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My son was also born at the end of August. He should be starting reception this September but we are deferring his entry. The information about entry to Southwark schools is here: http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200289/primary_school_admissions I don't think that they will lose their school place as the information says that "If your child is offered a place at the school before they are of compulsory school age you can request that Your child attends part time until s/he reaches compulsory school age or That their entry be deferred until later in the same school year If you do decide to defer your child's entry, the school place offered will not be given to any other child. However, you will not be able to defer your child's entry to primary school beyond the beginning of the term after your child's fifth birthday, nor beyond the academic year for which the original application was accepted." Hope that helps. ETA: If they miss reception (by deferring entry) they go directly into year 1. They cannot 're-do' reception. A huge gripe of mine with the school system :( -
Delayed primary school starting for summer babies
wellington replied to bobby's bear's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My first son was born in November but we still choose not to begin his formal education until he was almost 6 and he went directly into year 1. At the end of year 1 he was one of the most advanced in terms of reading and writing and is still in the same position now he is in year 2. He started class 1 without being able to read/write or having any experience of numeracy but I don't think this was detrimental to his progress. He also joined class 1 without knowing any of the other children, and although he is quite reserved, still made friends. My second son was born at the end of August and is supposed to start reception in September. We have put in our school application but will definitely defer his entry very possibly until class 1. Fortunately, I have spoken to his school where he also attends pre-school and they are very happy to let him stay in nursery until he is ready to transition to the formal curriculum (so go to reception at the beginning of spring or summer terms or start directly into year 1). Although reception is largely play based, my son has shown no interest in reading, phonics, numbers, etc. so I don't feel he is ready for the transition. -
where can I buy soft/sponge/PuSkin Basket ball?
wellington replied to curlykaren's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We got one in Sainsburys a few months ago. -
I just wanted to check and see if anyone has hired a rigid, heated birth pool and for the details of the company that you hired from. I had one about 3 years ago from Birthworks who have an agent in Brockley but I think she has changed her arrangements with the company so only provides the service where they set up the pool, etc.. I want to set it up ourselves again otherwise the hire is expensive. I'd also like a London provider so we can collect it ourselves and don't have to pay for a courier. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated :)

Acceptable sandwich fillings for school?!
wellington replied to susyp's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We're lucky my son likes to have the same sandwich everyday for lunch - hummous, grated carrot, mashed avocado and some kind of sprouts. Even though you may think it's boring your little one might like the repetition. I find if his lunch box has too much in it then he doesn't eat it as he'd rather quickly eat and go out to play. He has a sandwich, apple, organix bar and water. -
My eldest didn't start to do this until he was past 5 years. Some children/people are just social and like to be with others lots of the time. Some children are happy to play alone. You could put some special quiet toys out at the weekend and see if he'll play by himself but I generally think it is unrealistic to expect him to do so at his age.

home water birth question
wellington replied to duchessofdulwich's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I would personally. My brother and sis-in-law found, while my sis-in-law was in labour, that the hose attachment didn't attach to the tap properly so she couldn't use the pool :( -
According to the info for Wembley by the 2012 website there is no pushchair storage at the Stadium: http://www.london2012.com/venue/wembley-stadium/visitor-information
