Forest school/ outdoorsy play group
wellington replied to southeastlondonmum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Nature Play takes place on Thursday mornings in Dulwich/Sydenham Woods. http://www.nature-play.co.uk/south-east-london-uk.html -
Is it a house or flat? If it is a house it may be possible that it does not require planning permission and can be carried out under 'permitted development'.

Reptile party - recommendations please
wellington replied to Zo_Hop's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Yes, Wiggly Wild has reptiles and bugs. You can choose what animals you would like. I looked at Paul as well as he had attended our school fair and we enjoyed him and his animals. I chose Wiggly Wild as she had animals/insects that my son was particularly interested in. If you contact them you can see what animals/insects they have, how it works, etc. -
Reptile party - recommendations please
wellington replied to Zo_Hop's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We had Wiggly Wild Show ( http://www.wigglywildshow.co.uk/ ) do my son's birthday last year and everyone was very pleased so I'd definitely recommend them. My sister-in-law also attended a party by the same people and was also very impressed. -
Can we talk about Christmas presents?!?
wellington replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I think our 5 year old is getting Meccano this year. We've got lots of lego and other construction toys which he enjoys so I hope this will be similarly received. For those looking at the Haba wooden marble run as sold by Myriad I should let you know that we've had some problems with this as it is very unstable. Even my 9 year old gets very frustrated at how easy it is to knock a piece over and for everything else to coming tumbling down too. I have thought of selling ours and getting a more stable one. -
Wills / arrangements for kids in US-UK families
wellington replied to chica9's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Ummmm....I'm totally wrong on all fronts. Sorry! I spoke to my husband last night about this and our solicitor was thorough in their questioning of our financial situation with regards to holdings, etc. He works in finance and has more knowledge of tax implications so he enlightened me what the issues might be. I'm still curious about child custody though. -
Wills / arrangements for kids in US-UK families
wellington replied to chica9's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I am in a similar situation but our solicitors didn't advise us of any ramifications of children having dual nationalities or being of different nationalities when drafting our will. What type of issues were you thinking of? What child custody points are there? -
Corduroy acceptable for school trousers ?
wellington replied to Dulwich Born And Bred's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My boys have always worn tracksuit bottoms (both straight and elasticated leg openings) which are very easy to find (Sainsburys), reasonably priced and 100% cotton. -
(Boring thread alert) - affixing kids artwork to walls
wellington replied to pilsbury's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We use the Ikea curtain wire and clips and absolutely love it. My eldest has used blue tack on his bedroom walls and unfortunately it has damaged the paint. -
Any local Messy play (baby) & soft play centre (toddler)?
wellington replied to cazfay's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Bessemer Grange Children's Centre do a messy play session on Wednesday afternoons. There is soft play at Peckham Pulse, Brixton Rec and Gambados in Beckenham. Personally I'd go to Peckham with an 8 month old. -
Where to buy - blank sticker album for sticker trading
wellington replied to enjoy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I've got them in the poundshop in the past. They are blank but have printed covers. -
I kept my middle son at nursery until January. Socially he has been fine but I think he did find the work a bit overwhelming. I think now after one term he is finding it easier. My first son didn't start school until year 1 and also settled in well. Academically, he was behind his classmates (couldn't read, write, etc.) when he started and finished at the top of class. He also made friends and integrated well. This has been the right decision for both my children and I wouldn't hesitate to defer entry for my youngest either. I think you need to do what works best for you and your family. FYI I let the school know after he had received his place.

tongue tie - but can feed - should I still get it cut?
wellington replied to dibden's topic in The Family Room Discussion
DS3 had tongue tie but we chose to not have it treated. The reasons we didn't have it snipped is because of the pain to him, the aftercare not being very straight forward (and painful according to the TT specialist), it not being guaranteed a success or to solve all the problems, and me not being in any pain. I don't know about the weight gain as I didn't have him weighed but felt he was thriving. It was not easy or straightforward breastfeeding him, he would slip off, we had trouble feeding lying down, trouble feeding in the dark, etc. but all of this was overcome by about 4 months with practice and persistence from us both. I saw a speech and langue therapist for their opinion on the impact on his speech but they didn't think there would be any problems. My boy could never stick his tongue out so you can imagine my surprise and pride when he started sticking his tongue out at about 7 months - I was absolutely over the moon. I think the adhesion has stretched out. -
Most dark chocolate eggs will be dairy free whichever brand you choose.

I live on one of the neighbouring roads and this area is lovely. I think you'd be lucky to live there. The only thing worth possibly mentioning is traffic/vehicles associated with the school run at Alleyns. I don't find this to be a big problem though as it is limited to those times of day and vehicles don't travel at speed. Good luck!

How to get baby home from hospital?
wellington replied to OverTheRainbows's topic in The Family Room Discussion
In a car it is not safe to have the seat belt around you and your baby or use a sling as the baby would be crushed in an accident. Glad someone was able to lend you a seat. -
We moved to Sutton for the reasons you gave but left after 2 years to live in East Dulwich :) I agree with what the others have written. We lived in South Sutton in a nice area but there was no sense of community, we didn't know our neighbours well or see them all that often. The town centre is not a very nice place in my opinion. Yes, you can get more for your money but there are other places where you can get the same and are lovely. I wasn't that fond of the surrounding areas either. If I was interested in moving to that area then I'd look at Banstead although the train services aren't as frequent (or fast) to London.

Has anyone had placenta capsules made?
wellington replied to hellosailor's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I haven't had capsules made but did have a smoothie after my second little one was born. Personally, I felt it was very beneficial and felt far better emotionally and physically than after my first and third were born. -
I'd highly recommend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility as the charting (body temp, cervical mucus and cervical position) helped me become pregnant with my third after about a year of trying. I think the problem with ovulation predictor sticks is that they pick up the hormones but don't definitely tell you if you have ovulated. The only way to tell is by monitoring the minute temperature rise that occurs when ovulating - you need to monitor and record it to pick up the pattern. The book also explains other possible reasons for not getting pregnant (it could possibly be your partners sperm, etc.). I also had 2 or 3 sessions of reflexology with the lovely Charlotte Allocca before I became pregnant - http://www.touchtherapy.co/

Yesterday, in the Dulwich Park car park there was a catering truck which was being used in conjunction with some onsite filming being done so maybe they are connected.
