It's the S&M streak in me.... I can't help but regularly read the DM website whilst pouring lemon juice into paper cuts. For me the main tone of the article wasn't saying that women's sport doesn't get the coverage it needs and deserves (which is doesn't). It was saying that women's sport is basically unimportant and the nation only cares for male sport. If you're a true sports fan I think gender is irrelevant. Girls taking part in sport is at an all time low, we have a growing obesity crisis. Sports journalism is dominated by male journalists and coverage of male sport with very little attention given to women's sport. I'm sure the journos in question would say there are just responding to their target audience but how do you start to generate interest in something without giving it any exposure?

Name and shame pk. Because my confused and angry logic was telling me that the more people know about this person purporting to be a journalist then maybe people power can hound him from his just for being such a complete tosser. A stupid pipe dream I know but hey ho. Besides this is an open forum isn't it? Perhaps good to just generate a bit of discussion?!

I'd like to raise the profile of this appalling and utterly insulting article in the Daily Mail today. I'm so incensed I don't even know where to start!

Hi there Anyone know of a good christmas carol concert somewhere locally? Thanks
-
Anyone know where I can buy locally liners for cloth nappies. I used to get them from Health Matters but they don't seem to stock them any more. Thanks

Anyone still on for this? Got loads of runner beans, courgettes and squashes to swap!

I'm so angry! This is mindless bloody violance. Some t**t on the radio earlier trying to justify behaviour saying it's because people aren't being listened to, no jobs blah blah blah. There's no excuse for this behaviour. It's so sad that this might be the perception of the rest of the world before the London Olympics.

In about a week we will have a glut of runner beans and squashes if anyone wants to swap. Am interested in some mange tout or any green veg really. Also does anyone know if you can freeze runner beans??

Hi there I'm looking for advice on how we can keep our 14 mo occupied during a 12 hour flight! Obviously won't be able to take a huge number of toys on the plane and looking for maximum diversion. Also what are people's experience of helping them cope with the jet lag? Many thanks!

Cervical sweeps; do they actually work???
LauraHW replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I had one at 40+1, went for a 4 mile walk and went into labour that night. Who knows if sweep triggered it but I wanted to give everything a go as I didn't want to be induced which I was going to be at 40+5. -
For past 2 months I've been making formula up using cold tap water on the basis that my 11 mo drinks water straight from tap and we don't sterilise anymore. Is this horribly neglectful of me??

Breast feeding documentary on tonight..
LauraHW replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Only 10 mins in but it's a pile of shite -
I've heard rumours about a drop off creche at the top of Lordship Lane where you can leave your DC for the odd morning of afternoon. Does anyone have more details? Thanks!

Cloth nappies vs disposable nappies.
LauraHW replied to karter's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Don't mean to sound sanctimonious and I do use a mixture of cloth and disposables but think "eco-disposables" are a bit of a con. I mean they all end up in landfill sites anyway. What's eco about them? -
Another recommendation for Millpond. We went from waking 6 -7 times a night to waking about twice in the space of a week. Within a month we were sleeping through the night, not consistently but enough to make me feel human again. I think the main thing about the sleep clinic was that it made us feel like we were taking control of the situation and gave us alot more confidence. I would definitely recommend it as I'm able to enjoy our little boy so much more now!

I know it's not East Dulwich but I'd be interested in hearing peoples' views on Ivydale Primary?

Recommendation for sleep advice
LauraHW replied to mumof3girlies's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks Nunheadmum. I've contacted the millipond clinic as I've heard good things about them and we've got a consultation next week. Happy to report on progress is anyone's interested!! Although now we've paid up LO will probably fox us by sleeping through (or is that just a distant dream.....) -
Recommendation for sleep advice
LauraHW replied to mumof3girlies's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I know that 4 months is probably too soon to start getting concerned about poor sleep habits but the truth is that I value my sleep far too much! My 4 month old wakes frequently during the night - about 5 - 6 times between 7pm - 7am. He only wants feeding once and doesn't seem to be able to soothe himself back to sleep and will only drop back off it we put dummy back in and sit with him a while. Do you think this is just a phase or should we try to knock this on the head now by seeking some help? We've just returned from holiday and think this might have unsettled him too. Thanks for your help -
I'm just starting to get my head around returning to work in May and am thinking of going down the childminder rather than nursery route. Does anyone know how to get hold of a list of registered childminders in Nunhead area or does anyone have a recommendation? Also any other advice on the subject gratefully received e.g. what a reasonable daily rate is, what the usual child:childminder ratio is? Many thanks!

Hi there All advice on this gratefully received! I have a 14 week old and I think he's just started to teeth. He's very red in the cheeks and dribbling and keeps wanting to chew his hands. Also he's started to wake more frequently at night whereas before he'd only wake once. Does this sound like teething or is 14 weeks ridiculously soon to start? Thanks!

dummies / pacifiers and how to avoid using them?
LauraHW replied to benjaminty's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Just to echo what everyone else has said. I gave in at 4 weeks because I was sick of my nipple being used as a dummy. Now I'm a dummy convert and can't remember why I was such a snob about them! -
Hi there I know this isn't strictly an East Dulwich issue but does anyone have any recommendations for nurseries in SE15 for a one year old? I know of a couple - Goslings and Colourbox - but haven't heard of anyone's experiences of them. Any advice appreciated! Thanks
