  1. And also colouring books and pens or a magazine subscription?
  2. Lego, jigsaws, dress up things, marble run (plastic better than wooden IMO), books (let me know if you'd like recommendations of individual titles), musical jewellery box, Sylvanian families (with the family car), playmobil - loads of good sets including the swimming pool with slide (if you can cope with the water).
  3. I think Discover is great for you younger children but maybe less so from about 7ish. The olympic park is nearby though and great if the weather is nice.
  4. Little Bird have got an offer for performances on Sun 12 April: http://www.littlebird.co.uk/Discount-TheVelveteenRabbitApril
  5. Maybe another photo book with some funny/touching quotes about age? I wish someone had put so much thought into my 40th present!
  6. Well done Bessemer Grange - an amazing report for an amazing school.
  7. I'd like to know what was presented to the schools. 'Do you want the junction to be safer for your pupils to cross?' No school is going to say no to that.
  8. Re lollipop people, I received this reply from Matthew Hill this morning: There are no plans to change the level of school crossing patrol provision at this junction as a result of proposed works. When/if the works are completed, a risk assessment and site review will be carried out with the staff to ensure that they are providing the appropriate service to reflect the changes to crossing patterns and pedestrian behaviour.
  9. Sorry if this has been mentioned before - I haven't got the dedication to read all 27 pages - but has there been any mention of the lollipop people at the junction? I hope the redesign isn't a way of getting rid of them by stealth? They do a great job and in my view any crossing that has lots of kids using it regularly needs a lollipop person.
  10. It depends how posh you want to go and how adventurous your daughter's food taste is. There are a few places at Duke of York sq eg Patisserie Valerie. There's a place near the Peter Jones end of Sloane Sq that does great falafel wraps with a functional interior - sorry I can't remember what it's called. The restaurant at the top of Peter Jones is another possible option - a bit expensive for what it is I think, but plenty of seating and v child friendly.
  11. Hi James, just reposting this in case you missed it - have you noticed the extremely uneven pavement on Lordship lane going from the junction of E Dulwich Grove towards Goose Green, outside the CMHT and Chener Books? I took a bit of a tumble there last week and it looks like it could be quite dangerous - I don't know what's causing it - doesn't look like tree damage. I think this stretch could really do with repaving but it looks like there might be an underlying issue to address to avoid it happening again. Thank you.
  12. The crystals bit in the NHM is great (upstairs from side entrance) and a lot quieter than the dinosaurs.

  14. Often the GP won't know anything about the flavour of different brands but there does seem to be a big variation. With trimethoprim we had the most disgusting aniseed flavoured syrup that it was impossible to disguise. I got a new prescription and then did a tour of the pharmacies finding out the different options. Pinewood is flavour free for trimethoprim and much more palatable - I'm not sure about other types of antibiotics but the experience taught me to ask the question rather than accepting whatever I was given. It's great that you have found a solution but I hope this is helpful for future reference.
  15. I think those are ok options. They do both contain protein so if they have had fruit or veg as snacks I wouldn't have been put off by this. How many days is he going to go? If he's going to be part time then you will be in control of most of his meals. If it's a fun, stimulating safe setting then I would live with the food. I think there will always be some aspect of compromise.
  16. It would also be nice to get a present for the older child, something for 'big' boys and girls and even better if it's something that will occupy them while the baby is being fed etc.
  17. Thanks for highlighting this - we haven't had anything through the door yet. Agree that the phrasing of the questions is not helpful - even though it seems a good idea for a 30 minute space to be turned into a 60 minute space I couldn't agree in principle with the notion of 1-hour parking if that will be applied to currently unrestricted spaces.
  18. Thanks James - yes there was good notice of the Fellbrigg work, though for this to coincide with the double yellows on Crystal Palace Rd is very unfortunate timing from a parking perspective. I wish the council would think these things through. 19. Bunmi is brilliant with kids - we registered there after reading EDF recommendations.
  20. Thanks Knomester - this is my kind of thread! My younger one is also really enjoying Merry Christmas Blue Kangaroo.
  21. I got Christmas on Exeter Street as a result of this thread and I love it - thank you - and the kids love it too.
  22. I've got a Thomas the tank engine electronic toy that says all the letters etc. I find it as annoying as all those type of toys but if your son likes Thomas he would probably love it - happy to give it to you for free. PM me if you're interested.
  23. Little Clipper on Northcross Rd?
  24. The polar express http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Polar_Express I love reading it aloud - the language is lovely and it has a really magical feel to it. Lowering the tone somewhat Father Christmas Needs a Wee is good fun for younger kids.
