  1. I think Elm Green is worth a look, based on hearsay rather than experience. I believe the P13 goes there - one of the P buses anyway.
  2. I would definitely call the police - really scary. And hide anything irreplaceable eg jewellery and stuff of sentimental value somewhere where anyone breaking in wouldn't expect it to be.
  3. We've said yes. Real flu is dreadful and a spray up the nose seems one of the nicer ways of being immunised.
  4. Thanks for the tip about Maisie Hitchins - I hadn't heard of those. We like Oliver and the Seawigs and Cakes in Space and the Claude books.
  5. I had one of those alarms as a child and I remember very clearly the horrific jolt out of a deep sleep. I would only use one as a last resort. As etta166 says, training the bladder to hold more is the first thing specialists would recommend. We have a bladder training chart from St Thomas's, which has 8 drinks on it and each is supposed to be 150-200ml. It would be worth keeping a note of how much he is drinking on one day, just to see if it is within the recommended range. As others have said, 5 is pretty young to be dry through the night. Maybe you could try pull ups or those absorbent mats?
  6. I think it's highly unlikely to be The Gardens who have sold/shared your data. I say this based on my own experience of the practice, which I've been with for several years, but also because it's too quick - data is not bought or sold one person at a time so it's v unlikely that even if your information were illegally sold or stolen in a hack that it would make its way to a call centre that fast.
  7. Unless your scales are super reliable I would definitely try to get a couple of kilos under the limit. I had weighed my case at home and thought that it was 21.9kg but at the airport it was 24kg - so I had to hurriedly stuff some heavier things into my husband's case.
  8. Hello, can anyone recommend an intensive swimming lesson/course. I've seen some that are an hour a day for 5 days over half term for example. But because they are so short they don't provide childcare that would allow me to do anything. And also that doesn't seem very intensive. Does a half-day or full-day course exist or would that be too long and tiring to be effective? Any advice much appreciated. Edited to say: or please give me your recommendation for any teacher or course who helped your kids make great progress in swimming, particularly stroke technique.
  9. What about playmobil? The pirate ship is amazing, once you've spent ages assembling it, but it is expensive.
  10. There's an ad in the Pretty's cafe window on North Cross Rd about the flat upstairs. No idea what it's like but could be worth a look?
  11. Have you seen this? About to close: http://mobile.timewisejobs.co.uk/job/8935/hr-manager/
  12. Thanks peggoula
  13. Thanks so much for the tips RachC.
  14. Hi, does anyone have any recommendations for things to do with kids in Madrid? Ours are 5 and 7.
  15. There's an interesting blog I read on comics for girls here: http://geekdad.com/2015/02/12-comics-7-year-old-girl/ and a follow-up here: http://geekdad.com/2015/04/7-more-comics/
  16. MarkE, yes I'm sure it would affect Lacon Rd and possibly Ulverscroft but it depends which way vehicles are coming and when they realise the road is closed. Coming down North Cross from CP road, if drivers don't know about the closure they will take the last possible turning, which in this proposal would be Fellbrigg. If drivers are coming along Lordship Lane from the Goose Green end and want to turn into North Cross, they can't and then go left up Shawbury, left onto Fellbrigg and right - this is already happening of course and there was a noticeable increase in traffic after the initial closure. But at the moment people trying to get from Lordship to North Cross can still do so via Archdale Rd and so cutting off that road will I think inevitably put pressure on other roads feeding into North Cross including Frllbrigg and Lacon. 17. As nxjen says this has been the market team's plan for some years. More pedestrianisation = more pitches = more revenue. I do think this needs v careful consideration in terms of traffic. The corner of North Cross and Fellbrigg would become a real pinch point under this plan. It's already quite difficult to turn right out of Fellbrigg onto North Cross when someone is turning left into Fellbrigg from North Cross, with the built out pavements. I think it would get very congested and awkward for drivers and pedestrians. I don't think there's much benefit in making Archdale a dead end and then stopping just before Fellbrigg. It will just drive more traffic round the North Cross/Fellbrigg corner.
  18. It's a bit of an investment but the Playmobil pirate ship has been played with loads at our house.
  19. If you contact the police they may well have a good idea who it is. After an incident with a v aggressive woman coming to our house (could possibly be the same person as you describe though you haven't given much detail) I called the non-emergency number just to flag it in case she came back and our local bobby followed it up later in the week - he thought he knew who it was. Thankfully she hasn't been back but I did spot her on Lordship Lane a couple of days ago
  20. They do look like bites though I imagine it's possible they could be an allergic reaction as others have suggested. I wonder how long you have lived where you are? Fleas can lie dormant for years in the cracks between floorboards etc so if a previous resident had pets then that's a possibility. In that case the bites would be mainly on an adult's lower legs. I'm wondering if it really is the sofa? Maybe you are just noticing the irritation when sitting on the sofa when in fact the bites happened some time before? Have you tried not sitting on the sofa for a couple of weeks or completely covering with a bedspread?
  21. Simon Turgoose at the Vale is amazing with babies and adults.
  22. Dainty Sue is amazing. She has done lots of parties for my children and they have all been wonderful. She makes kids and adults laugh so much, does brilliant tricks and a good disco. http://www.daintysue.com
  23. It seems rather unfair to start criticising this man before he's even started. I don't know him but he does have senior management experience and I'm sure will have a strong vision for the school. Please can we be positive? I know some senior teaching staff who aren't heads but are utterly inspirational and I'm hoping and trusting that he will be a fantastic head.
  24. actuarygi - yes it's the dad's decision but hopefully if he reads this he will pause for thought because quite a few people are concerned about the safety of the situation. He may feel that he is in control of the balance of the bike and how much the dogs are pulling but it would only take one thing that suddenly stops one of the dogs or makes them pull in a different direction (spotting a cat or a squirrel, being shocked by a loud noise) to tip the bike over. Even if there are no cars around, a child without a helmet falling to the ground either on the pavement or the road could suffer a very serious head injury.
