Goose Green councillors - how can we help?
edanna replied to jamesmcash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi James, I wish Southwark would consider more frequent bin collections during this weather. The green and brown bins are incredibly smelly and full of flies. I can even smell them inside the house. Is there any chance of collections going weekly for a while? -
What are your teenagers doing this summer?
edanna replied to Kimmy1080's topic in The Family Room Discussion
If they like theatre, the Unicorn does courses: https://www.unicorntheatre.com/Holiday-Workshops The main one for their age group is sold out though. -
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them? It is quite scary in parts but less so on a small screen. And it is a really good film with part 2 coming out in Nov.
-
I wonder whether Dog Kennel Hill Adventure Playground might be interested? They run a summer scheme, as well as having lots of young people visiting in term time.

You could get someone to make them bespoke and then you could have whatever finish or colour you like and they will have samples.

Looking for recommendations for reading books
edanna replied to carebear's topic in The Family Room Discussion
When my son was at this stage I spent a lot of time on the Southwark library catalogue looking for reading books of the right level. I found some really good ones and some of them are tagged to the series so you can find similar books. My son enjoyed the Poor Pirates books: http://www.lovereading4kids.co.uk/series/Start%20Reading:%20The%20Poor%20Pirates You can order them free on a child?s card from other libraries. My daughter also really liked the Animal Fairy Tales series - if you search for Pandarella you will find it. -
Wavelengths in Deptford is worth a look, though they do make people queue up for entry slots and limit your time to an hour quite strictly. Also, depending on the age of your kids I think wavelengths don?t allow 3 kids under a certain age even with 2 adults. So check ratios before you go. Forest Hill pools has a shallow kids? pool - no slides or anything but a good depth for learning. I?m sorry to say I haven?t had good experience of swimming lessons at Dulwich leisure centre. JAGs might be a good option for lessons.

There has been a thread on this guy before. I stupidly gave him money the first time I saw him near Goose Green roundabout since naively it hadn?t occurred to me that someone would deliberately injure their leg to con people out of a few quad. I?ve seen him a lot recently in and around Denmark Hill station and have reported him to staff there. I was pleased to see him getting pretty short shrift from most people but presumably it works well enough otherwise he wouldn?t still be doing it.

Thanks so much AbDabs and malumbu. Really useful, especially that document AbDabs.

Thanks Penguin68 I?ve already done a lot of googling - in the past I?ve seen threads where people have detailed how they objected in relation to Southwark?s local plan etc - maybe if I?d said that the thread wouldn?t have been lounged quite so quickly!

There is a planning application for converting an old workshop that our house backs onto into a house. The plans show the wall at the bottom of our garden increasing from approx 2.3m to approx 4.8m. Because our garden is only approx 7m long, this means that we would have considerable loss of light to our back rooms and garden. There are some pretty complicated formulas for calculating adequate light so I?m wondering if anyone has experience of objecting to a planning application on this basis and what you did to show the potential effect. Thanks in advance.

Teach your monster to read is brilliant and free (on the site but you pay for an app). https://www.teachyourmonstertoread.com Mystery math Town is also great. You can set the level of difficulty: https://artgigapps.com/apps/mystery-math-town -
Whether childcare vouchers or the new scheme is better for you will v much depend on your circumstances - you need to work this out quickly so you don?t miss the date for the childcare voucher scheme, which is closing to new entrants. This is a good explanation: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/family/childcare-vouchers I?ve worked out I?m better off on the voucher scheme, especially because my kids are older so I wouldn?t benefit from the new scheme for long.

Wtd: recommendations for non-fiction books for 13yr old boys
edanna replied to Cora's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Cora, has he ever had one of the Ripley?s believe it or not books? There is some mind boggling stuff in there. https://www.google.co.uk/shopping/product/10369874696762231600?lsf=seller:2839496,store:1472536690526970026&prds=oid:12658829227644589180&q=ripley%27s+annual+2018&hl=en-gb&ei=rGRqWrnhB-XegAa1y5HACQ&lsft=gclid:EAIaIQobChMI_tmS9Z702AIVBLvtCh3yDASjEAQYAiABEgJc0_D_BwE -
Extension to ultra-low emission zone to north/south circulars
edanna replied to edanna's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I agree that decreasing emissions is a good idea but I think this could ruin people and small businesses who need a vehicle and can?t afford a new one. -
There is a consultation live at the moment about extending the ultra low emission zone (ULEZ) to the north and south circulars. Under the proposals, people living or working in East Dulwich (and a lot of other areas) would need to pay every time they use their car or van if it doesn?t meet the standards. In the case of diesel vehicles that means pre-2015. No ?sunset period? is planned for residents - so everyone would be expected to pay from day 1. https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/environment/air-quality-consultation-phase-3b/?cid=airquality-consultation I can only find discussion on the EDF around the last consultation about the central London zone so apologies if there?s a thread already on the new consultation.

There is an online form you can fill in to report dog poo and they send someone to clean it up (if it hasn?t been walked in so much it has disappeared). Google ?Southwark dog fouling? and you will find it. It?s v quick and easy.

Primary application - in no-man's land, any advice
edanna replied to Lucy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Yes definitely put 6 down because you will get a place at one of them in the end. It must be really nerve wracking but there is a lot of movement during Reception so even if you don?t have a place you want on 1 Sep it will happen. If you are near Fairlawn you must be fairly near Horniman too?
