  1. It?s Fellbrigg Rd - North cross Rd end. Johnjohn you are so right - there are loads of these dropped kerbs around belonging to former business/industrial premises that are no longer used. Put 2m of yellow lines either side of these and you?ll have a no parking zone of 7-8metres all for no reason. There should be a way of declaring dropped kerbs not in use.
  2. White lines aren?t enforceable though unless there is access to a multiple occupancy property or the occupier complains.
  3. So Southwark?s site says: Driveways that serve a single property If there's no enforceable yellow line, you can park close to this type of driveway without penalty. We only enforce if the occupier of the property makes a specific request. In my case there is no yellow line so that?s my appeal.
  4. This morning I got a parking ticket for parking across a dropped kerb in front of some old gates opposite my house. No-one has taken a vehicle in or out of these gates for many years, probably decades. Because we live in an area of high parking pressure, we have parked across these gates and so have many others for the past 15 years and I have never got a ticket and I?ve never seen anyone else get a ticket, so I assume the usual parking enforcement officers turn a blind eye. Any thoughts on how I can appeal this? Yes, I have parked across a dropped kerb but I have not obstructed any access and I think I have a reasonable expectation that it?s OK to park there after doing so for so long. Secondly, is there any process for dropped kerbs being revoked? All thoughts appreciated.

  6. Fitzgeraldo you would only pay when you actually drive the car, not when it?s parked. 7. My GP told me that you should use full sun block or as full as possible on kids for a year after chicken pox to avoid scarring. I know that?s no help now but something to think about in the next few months. Hope things improve v soon.
  8. I can heartily recommend Dainty Sue http://www.daintysue.com/index_mb.html She did amazing parties for both my kids for years. Sadly they are a bit too old and I miss her! I don?t have any connection with Sue other than being a fan and a very happy repeat customer. Parents who came to the parties often said she was the best entertainer they had seen. That?s still the case for me and I went to a lot of parties before my kids were old enough to be dropped off.
  9. I can recommend an amazing Suzuki piano teacher in Nunhead - that sounds perfect for him because it focuses on playing by ear before learning to read music. And the method is suitable for young children. She?s called Natalie: [email protected]
  10. Yes people will be able to pay remotely but it will probably be a big deterrent for many people who would have left their car all day. The difference in number of parked cars over at Basingdon Way near Sunray Avenue has been very noticeable since a 2-hour parking restriction was introduced. It would cost about ?6.80 a day to leave your car there. So it all depends on who is parking there and why. If it?s mainly commuters it could make a big difference. But it may not change other types of parking. Where we live people park for shorter visits to shops and restaurants so I can envisage still having parking pressure either side of a two-hour period if that were introduced on our street.
  11. If you can afford it I?d stick with a nursery that is open all the year round - it gets really difficult only having term-time childcare when you work so I think it?s sensible to wait especially while your child is too young for holiday schemes. Childminders can be great but because they generally work on their own they can become unavailable because of illness or bereavement etc, which doesn?t happen with a nursery. Edited to say of course it depends on the nursery and the school, but I know someone who took their child out of an excellent nursery for a nursery place in a school and the learning was substantially behind in the school. It wasn?t a great school though.
  12. Thanks Angelina - good idea. I might get her an air hog, which is indoor only so hopefully won?t end up in a tree.
  13. Could you get a self-catering place in an estate that has other properties? There are places like this in France and Italy and no doubt other places. On cheznous you can actually search for places that have more than one property. And try Homeandaway, which covers lots of countries.
  14. Thanks PeckhamNicola, you?ve confirmed my reservations. I hope your son?s new drones last a bit longer!
  15. My 8 year old daughter has written to Father Christmas asking for a drone with a camera. It?s not something I would ever buy normally and I think if we do buy one it will not meet her expectations. I?ve only been looking at the cheaper price end and am expecting the cheap drones to be flimsy and easy to lose or break. The reviews seem to be either 5 stars (fake?) or 1 star. But Father Christmas always brings what you ask for because he can make any toy, she says! What would you do in this situation? And have you bought a drone that has lived up to expectations?
  16. It can be hours, days or weeks. A more reliable source: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/food-poisoning/
  17. Hi Ludinthemist, I assume you mean North Cross Rd? Your illness sounds really terrible - hope you?re feeling better. It?s really hard to be sure with food poisoning what actually caused it - people tend to assume it?s something they ate that day but depending on the type of bug it can take quite a bit longer for you to become ill. If you went to hospital then presumably they tested you and determined what bug you had. If I had been that ill and had confirmation of the type of bug I would report it to environmental health so they can investigate the cafe/restaurant in question. They would be looking for a pattern if they have had other reports of illness with a common connection. Sometimes people think they have food poisoning when it?s actually something transmitted in another way - norovirus for example which is dreadful. Most people get better on their own at home so don?t usually get confirmation of what bug or virus it is so what people think is food poisoning sometimes isn?t really food poisoning. I hope your luck improves!
  18. 50% increase in traffic sounds like rather a lot to me James - that?s half as much again. 19. The 9-10 window may work for people parking to catch the train. But if the parking pressure is from people driving to work at shops and local businesses, or to go to shops or restaurants, or cinema or mosque, the parking pressure would likely be just the same after 10.
  20. The little disco company are fab for girls that age - they did my daughter?s 7th birthday and it was great. https://www.thelittlediscocompany.co.uk

If so which part of the area? It can be very difficult to park on Fellbrigg, Shawbury, Archdale, Lacon roads and nearby particularly during the day on weekdays and Saturdays. People park to work at or visit the shops, market, mosque, temple etc. The pressure on this area is very different to the roads you mention.
  22. While understanding the points of view of Champion Hill residents, I?m really concerned about the knock-on effects of this trial. This won?t stop people who need to use vehicles using them - it will just displace the cars and vans onto other roads. I think this trial will have a serious impact on congestion from the junction between Dog Kennel Hill and Champion Hill round past Denmark Hill station. Previous roadworks etc have demonstrated that it takes very little to slow buses going up Dog Kennel Hill considerably, with tailbacks going all the way down Dog Kennel Hill and sometimes back to Goose Green. The buses up Dog Kennel Hill are a central part of the commute for a very large number of people living in East Dulwich, Forest Hill etc. I think consultation with TFL is essential before pursuing this trial. I would also expect the trial to have a serious knock-on effect on the junctions between Townley Rd and East Dulwich Grove, and between East Dulwich Grove and Red Post Hill. This is the obvious alternative route between Lordship Lane and Red Post Hill/Ruskin Park. These junctions are already very busy in the morning, especially with coaches and other traffic going to Alleyn?s and James Allen?s Girls School. An increase in congestion at these junctions would lead to even longer tailbacks (and pollution outside schools due to cars idling in queues) and delay the 37 bus route, which is another essential route for many people?s morning commute. If the impact on buses is as bad as I fear then a lot of people are going to be adversely affected by this trial, which is planned to last for 6-12 months.
  23. It?s now to let as an A1 retail property so I assume this means the application to change to A3 was rejected?
  24. We get 2 subscription items that (are supposed to) arrive on Fridays. No post at all this Friday. No post at all this Saturday. Then post today but not the 2 missing items and goodness knows what else that has got stuck somehere. This is on Fellbrigg Rd.
  25. Thanks for that Zig-Zag. The 40 is on the list, which is a crucial bus service for East Dulwich, with a potential rerouting at Elephant to Clerkenwell Green. The 171 terminating at Elephant would also affect a lot of people. All of these changes will have a bigger effect on people who can?t easily hop on and off different buses. I?m relieved the frequency of the 40 isn?t mentioned - hopefully that will stay the same.
