  1. er why has this been moved to the lounge?
  2. Hi Does anyone know if the park closing times have been changed as a result of cuts? My adughter and I were turned out of Sunray Gardens just before six this evening - which seems appallingly early when it is still so light. Still lots of people wanting to use the park, play in payground, walk dogs. Two kids just climbed straight back in - don't really blame them - where else can they go? Looked at park closing times for rest of year and they do seem early. When the clocks go back the park will be closing at 3.30 - just as the schools come out. Is this normal and something I have just missed? It certainly feels much too early. Spoke to others and people were genuinely v annoyed about this. It felt new. One mum had spent 1 1/2 hours waiting around for a brownies group to start earlier in the week but couldn't use the park - despite it being perfectly light. So much for encouraging us all to get active. best M
  3. Please no, I'm begging you. Seriously I have begun to loathe tattoos whereas previously I just didn't want one myself. If you were going to open up coudl I suggest you draw up a code of practice: Nothing on the face or neck - except with written permission from grandchildren No Tats for anyone under 25 - with stringent id conditions. all to be hown aged pictures of themselves with tats aged 70 I just get so depressed seeing how young people have mutilated themselves for life
  4. Well said Tarot - am seething - and remind me someone isn't Alleyn's a charity? This is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO offensive Surely the 4x4s are enough
  5. Hi Two of our local trees have lost big branches in the last week or so and was wondering if people had ideas on what might be causing this and if there's anything we can do. The first one was outside the drycleaners at the top of Landells road, more recently two signficant branches have fallen off one of the trees outside St thomas more church. Am wondering is this drought distress or damage caused by the never ending gas works or both? Can we do anything? cheers
  6. A good travel plan is essentail and should include walking buses. Some mums drive to schools because they have smaller children/toddlers who walk agonisingly slowly so resort to going by car. If the school age children all walked together in a 'bus' it would save all a lot of angst/CO2. Others do drive as they then go on to work. If this all creates parking problems then it could be helped by the school being more active in encouraging people to park further away and walk. That and a few wardens popping up!
  7. er, no, but could do with somewhere other than sainsburys to buy undies/children's clothes at reasonable price without having to travel
  8. Hi all They landed slap bang in the middle of the junction - cool flying. It was a hit and run - hence large Police presence - it was being treated as a scene of crime Police said not life threatening so fingers crossed for bloke invovled - cyclist best to all
  9. Been a patient here for years - thought Dr Grant was great and I don't think I have ever come across Dr Johnson. Do see a lot of the Nurse practitioners for the everyday complaints you get with a small(ish) child. Universally competent and pleasant. Just wanted to stick up for them - you don't always need (or even want) to see a Dr!
  10. I go past this place at least twice a day for years and have never had any problems whatsoever from the people there. I do wonder where they are going and what they are running from and feel for them. many of the people have children and that must be especially tough.
  11. No way I have heard that Badger bakery may be forced to close because of the Sainsbury's Local and other shops nearby are starting to feel the pinch. So sad as there are some really good shops up here and i fear they will all go to the wall. A waitrose would be a disaster. and let's not even think about the parking....
  12. Just to say that I got the following very helpful response from Southwark today re getting something sorted pedestrian safety at the LL/Barry road junction. Got Tessa Jowell and the school on the case too so that clearly worked. Good Afternoon , Thank you for enquiry regarding the Temporary Traffic Signal at the above junction. The engineering works on Lordship Lane are expected to be completed by Tuesday 7th Sept, however the reinstatement of the carriageway will take until Friday 10th. I have arranged for a School Crossing Patrol Officer to be place at the junction, (costed to Southern Gas Networks), to assist with the children crossing but unfortunately they will not have anyone available until Monday morning so I have instructed SGN to have a New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) qualified operative on site to assist the children at the crossings. Well done Southwark!
  13. James Apols if you have picked this up already but I couldn't see anything on a quick scan of the above. I live at the top end of LL near the endless gas works. I am extremely concerned at the lack of pedestrian safety whilst the temp lights are in operation. The schools are back this week and this junction (barry road/Lordship Lane) is bad enough even with green men - I am terrified that there will be a major accident. At the moment there is no break at all when it is safe for pedestrians to cross - so people are just dashing across. I have contacted the council but would ask that you add your voice. Even a 'green man' break or lollipop person equivalent would help. I know it would make the delays even worse but frankly there are lives at stake here. There was a child killed beside Peckham Rye when there were temp lights last year. We need to learn the lesson. Thanks for any help you can give.
  14. looks like Southwark council are coming up trumps. Two charming noise abatement blokes have come round and will break in and stop it in an hour! (they have to wait for an hour to allow the keyholders to come apparently) I wonder if I can help break in...
  15. tried that - forgot to say - tin pot outfit who may call round tomorrow....
  16. I live opposite the lordship lane surgery at the top of the lane by the library and every night for the last week its alarm has gone off for about an hour from about 6.30-7.30. I rang them today in the vain hope they would do something about it but, guess what, it's ringing again. The police have been but can't do anything about it. Have emailed southwark council but no reply - that was on saturday. Have tried Southwark noise again and they say they might be around in an hour or so. Apparently they have to witness the noise from inside your home! I am on the point of putting a brick through their window - would have no effect other than to make me feel better. any ideas? miacis
