What kind of shop/eaterie would you like to see on LL?
Miacis replied to imasnookercue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Vietnamese and noodlle -
Agreed. I?ve recently become a wheelchair user and it?s really opened my eyes. Simple things like dropped curbs having too big a lip, people parking over them, cobbled streets, small pavers that come up. Tree roots are an issue but the surroundings could be smoothed rather than removing the trees which no one wants. Others? oblivious behaviour is more difficult. I just think there are some people who are aware of others and those who live in their own bubble.

This affects me so badly. I?m undergoing cancer treatment at Guy?s. being able to get a seat, not have to change then level walk made all the difference yesterday. Probably my last time able to do that journey and make it albeit exhausted. I did make the point in the TfL consultation. Guy?s is centre for most cancer treatment now. Bus, train from Ed then longer walk with the equivalent of 20kg lead weights tied to your legs will just be too much. I?m lucky, I can afford a cab but that?s just bonkers.

TfL plan to reroute Bus 40 away from London Bridge
Miacis replied to Bic Basher's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Have responded and added comments around disability impact to equality impact section. Would ask others to do the same. This really is a major issue for patients attending Guy's. The 42 bus is just not a reasonable alternative. I know it's hard to imagine but if you're not well or suffering from side effects of chemo 100 meters is a very long way (a marathon as said above) let alone trying to navigate crowded places such as London Bridge or bus interchanges. Thanks all -
TfL plan to reroute Bus 40 away from London Bridge
Miacis replied to Bic Basher's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Guy's is now main cancer treatment centre for SE London. Recently diagnosed, I know that I will need to use 40 rather than train to get to outpatients for chemo. Shorter walk to bus stop, no need to change and pretty much guaranteed a seat make it the only realistic alternative to a cab. If you're fit and well the train to lb is faster if more expensive. It's a completely different prospect if you're unwell or just slow on your pins -
Hi, DD is in yr 11. Doing all 3 sciences. We're looking for someone to help her fill in gaps in attention/understanding. Ideally mon or Tuesday evenings. Possibly to help with Maths too. Pm with details. Many thanks

Clearly I have missed this somehow. Feel a right eejit. Note to self : drink Much less beer, wine and learn fine art of compacting plastic bottles and cans. Meanwhile if you see a mad woman jumping up and down on top of blue bin contents you'll know why
-
When did the recycling bin collection change to every two weeks? We easily fill our big blue bin every week so will have to put a weeks worth of recycling into the normal bin. This just seems daft? How are others managing? We must have missed the notification as it was every week until Xmas. I assume this is a result of cuts

flashpark parking charge lordship lane vet
Miacis replied to wodey's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I noticed signs very clearly when getting off bus with my cat to go to vets last sat. Very obvious imho. Have to say being able to park outside vets was an absolute necessity when going to and from vets/emergency vets with our gravely ill dog. -
New timetable - all direct trains from east Dulwich/north Dulwich to Wimbledon are cancelled from Monday. These are packed already so God knows how we will get to work now. Can change at Tulse Hill on to thameslink but that is a)unreliable and b) very busy already. Will email Helen Hayes and Sadiq - this is just a nightmare. My only realistic option will be overground from Denmark hill and then change at Clapham junction which is more costly.

Found a package two days ago on our doorstep containing an old fashioned paper embosser with our address on it. Clearly dates from the time before postcodes. Just SE. Returned to its home by Christine who had bought it in a box of old bits according to the note left with it. So kind. It would have belonged to the man who lived here for c50 years before us. He worked at a printers. Feels like part of the house's history. Hope you see this. Thank you.

Hi Interested in what might be available in August this year for 12 yo girl. More interested in sport than drama. Need to cover whole days rather than just am/pm. She's now getting a bit old for her usual clubs and some of these only go up to age 12. Many thanks

One hour free parking in the area...
Miacis replied to easytiger's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Just realised they are proposing to turn the four spaces outside the Thomas more church from unlimited to one hour. We live beside the church and this is the only place we and our neighbours can park. Shops opposite are not ones you drive to. All local trade or from bus stop. Maddening. Especially annoying as we have had nothing through the door about this. If this goes through it will be even more of a nightmare than it is already . Pointless -

Miacis replied to Jah Lush's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Loved this and thank you for posting. Moved here in 1994. Loved the glimpse of the prefabs on lordship lane. last one still surviving and his stupendous garden makes so many people smile passersby and from the top of the bus. -

New Charter School on Dulwich Hospital Site
Miacis replied to littlek1cker's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Suspect it is simply practical. There is no space to expand the existing school. Having split sites is v v tricky. Perhaps ok at sixth form when more free time but really challenging when younger. I can see sense logistically for two. Time tabling is bad enough without having to factor in traveling between two sites. -
Couple of quick points: Being inner city and next to an estate doesn't necessarily make a school more inclusive - the ethnic/economic mix of these schools is strikingly different to our local state schools. It would be good if these schools actually published data in the same way that state schools do so we could look at the facts - unfortunately they don't. Nonetheless you can observe the mix. Many, many young people do charitable/voluntary work - from both state and private. Not seen any evidence to say that indep school pupils do more. Interesting study reported here that found that poor people actually give proportionately more to charity http://www.theguardian.com/society/2001/dec/21/voluntarysector.fundraising
