  1. I did a defensive driving course a few years back when I worked at Wimbledon and I managed to keep calm, I think thats what saved me.
  2. driving my van Loz...a deeply disturbing experience
  3. Rise up - Osmium
  4. I had a similar incident a couple of months back. coming home from work at 2.45am driving down, Lyndhust way where the road narrows a car came at me at speed and blocked the road, the two occupants jumped out and ran at me, "get out of the f***ing van!" I hit the central locking and one of them started punching the windscreen and drivers window with some kind of heavily re enforced glove. luckily I stayed calm and began to reverse at speed back up Lyndhurst with one of them hanging onto my wing mirror still trying to punch his way in. at the first junction I lost my passenger (and mirror) and aimed for Peckham Road with the car chasing. luckily for me there was a police car double parked on Talford Place so I pulled along side and repeatedly sounded the horn. I was fortunate that I spotted police car, because I have no doubt that if they'd have caught me i would have taken quite a beating. the police were great, but they didn't catch the guys. so all van drivers need to be weary if its the same two guys, it was truly terrifying and the level of aggression was hideous.

  12. a successful outcome! I've just received the reply to my appeal and the fine/notice has been made void. but they do warn that "officers have been instructed to pay particular interest and to deal with all other (fly)posters"

  16. last weekend I held a toy yard sale for my two boys, and as most folk do I stuck a few posters (a4 size homemade) around the local area. ten minutes before we were due to start two members of Southwark council turned up and asked if I'd placed the posters. I replied that I had and they then served me with a ?75 on the spot fine for flyposting! last night I walked Lordship lane,Northcross and Goose Green and took over 35 pictures of other illegal posters. to everyone thinking of sticking up a few posters for your yard sale, school fair or lost dog (yes they are illegal) beware.

  20. check your household insurance, you may be covered. I had a bike stolen last year and the police told me to try the insurance route. the bike was covered and they sent me a beautiful new replacement within seven days. I had no receipt or frame number either (I do now though) I know it doesn't make the theft any better but at least it could save the price of a decent replacement
