Woman died after Muslim nurse refused to help as he was praying
sheilarose replied to jelly's topic in The Lounge
Jelly, what exactly do you know about Islam? What books have you read about it? Which scholars have you listened to about it? You talk about the "ugly truth behind Islam" -- please give full details as to exactly where and how you uncovered this. -
God daughter is housesitting - do we pay her?

They are expensive and yes, you pay for food, travel and agency fees on top of their daily rate. But they do a wonderful job and we used to return to the happiest pets, a gleaming house and a hot meal. Nieces, nephews, friends etc do a good job too and deserve to be paid a bit I think. I agree that cats on their own are a lot less effort, though. -

Either my niece or my nephew house sit for us whenever we go away. We do pay them -- ?30 per day -- but for this we expect them to walk our dog, water the garden, feed the cats and not leave the dog alone for long periods. I love the peace of mind that comes with having someone staying in the house (better than any burglar alarm) and not having to send our dog to kennels. -
> Thoughts? I've been finding Gingerbeer to be quite credible and entertaining -- not a deranged right-wing oddball, which is what I understand this wolf person to be. I suppose time will tell if she bothers to get in touch with any of you when she arrives. I'd find the suspicious response quite off-putting if I were her.

Who is Michael Pemulis? I googled him out of curiosity and didn't find any images of someone in a yachting cap.

Did the helicopter hovering over that part of Honor Oak at about 6pm yesterday have anything to do with a police response to this? I hope they have at least come to your house and taken proper statements by now. This sounds like a serious incident and must have been terrifying for the victim.

Here are two things that might actually be useful to you, language-wise. What you call pants, the British call trousers. In Britain pants are underpants. So, for example, if you say to a British colleague that you like her pants, she will wonder how you know what her knickers look like and why you are being rather personal. Being British, she is unlikely to say anything about it, or explain your mistake. She will just look at you a bit oddly and let you go on to make the same mistake again and again. Similarly, what you call a fanny, the British call a bum or bottom. In Britain, a fanny is a front bottom, so avoid remarks like, "Oh my fanny aches after sitting down for so long" as you will be thought to be providing just a bit too much information.

Jeremy added the bit about the average adult female in the US being taller, not Gingerbeer.

Potentially Dangerous Junction
sheilarose replied to uncleglen's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Depends how far up Forest Hill Rd you want to go. I like going all the way along Underhill Rd to Langton Rise and then left on to Woodvale because there are lights at the junction of Woodvale and Forest Hill Rd. Not the shortest or quickest route, but definitely the least stressful. -
These are all genuine names of different undertakers: Human and Pitt (Cape Town), A. Will (Grahamstown, SA), Wake and Paine, Ashton, W. Uden -- all in London.

Apparently the burning eyes are produced by high levels of urine in the water and nothing to do with chlorine. I don't know if that's true, but I grew up in sunnier climes and we had a pool and although we used plenty of chlorine, I never had red stinging eyes.

Changed my mind about this post -- too hastily written while annoyed.

Try contacting the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers: http://www.ics.org.uk/london-branch -- the secretary's e-mail address is listed on this webpage. -
I used Alan Carr's book and haven't had a cigarette for well over 6 years. Still miss smoking though...

Absolute best thing for a sore throat: Green Bay Harvest Manuka Honey Suckers -- you can buy them from Ocado. I think I've been lucky -- 15 hours of nearly non-stop vomiting -- but now I'm fine except for sore ribs and throat and dehydration as a result of aforesaid 15 hours.

Park Drive, you are being idiotic. No-one said they didn't care about the welfare of the child. You have absolutely no idea about how this child is cared for on a day-to-day basis and equally you seem to be completely ignorant of the terrible damage that can be done to young children by disrupting their attachment to their primary carer and exposing them to the uncertainty and trauma of life in care. Of course, not all children can live with their parents, but this is not a decision that can be made on the basis of one out-of-control rant. The woman's racist behaviour is disgusting, of course it is, but lots of people do and say disgusting things (including you, in my opinion, vis a vis your attitude towards foster carers earlier in this thread). This does not necessarily affect their ability to be adequate parents and nor does it turn them into the monsters who killed Baby P.

We used to keep our heating on low for the entire winter and found our bills were lower than having it on intermittently. That was in a 3-bed terrace. I'm not sure if the same applies to a flat -- it certainly doesn't to our current home which is bigger and draughtier.

Anyone know of a decent place to stay in Manchester...
sheilarose replied to monkeyp's topic in The Lounge
I like Mint Hotel. Central location, friendly staff, comfortable beds and good breakfast. -
An inquiry has found that Iraqi hotel worker Baha Mousa died after suffering "appalling" and "gratuitous violence" in a "very serious breach of discipline" by UK soldiers. Yet only one soldier has served one year's imprisonment for these crimes. I really do not believe that justice has been done in this case, and join the injured detainees' solicitor in calling for all those responsible to be prosecuted.

More Dogs in Peckham Rye Park
sheilarose replied to the-e-dealer's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Where exactly is the Floral Garden? Where no dogs are allowed? I am a law-abiding soul and would like to know.
