  1. Is it normal practice for a GP surgery to have a premium rate telephone number, and to charge ?25 for a referral letter (for private physiotherapy because the waiting list for the in-house physio is too long)?
  2. Thank you for your help.
  3. Does anyone know if any local GP surgery accepts repeat prescription requests by e-mail?
  4. I went to Pretty's a few weeks ago for the first time and was charmed by the extremely friendly and obliging waitress. I also really enjoyed my lunch.
  5. There has just been what looks like a serious accident at the junction of Brenchley Gardens and Forest Hill Road. The road is closed off and a number of fire engines are in attendance. Seems as if the proposed work to improve road safety is long overdue.
  6. Here is an ambulance service based in Kent but will come into South London: http://www.foxproject.org.uk/fox-casualties/
  7. I recommend joining Zipvan -- costs less than ?20 a year for membership and then a very low hourly rate for use of the van.

It occupies only a small part of it -- perhaps enough space for five or six extra tables. Getting rid of the playground seems mad to me.
  9. I saw the fox and it was indeed behaving strangely. Being out in broad daylight, wandering around in the open, scavenging for bits of duck food and seemingly completely unafraid of humans are all atypical behaviours, suggesting that the fox is ill, usually with a severe case of mange. This one looked fairly healthy and was very young. Perhaps simply a new adaptive behaviour of the urban fox?
  10. Will keep an eye out for it. What bit of Forest Hill are you on -- top, middle or bottom?
  11. We let out our house for 6 months while we were in Australia and used an estate agent. It all worked out fine, but one thing we hadn't realised is that the estate agent didn't pay us the rent every month as they received it, but paid it quarterly. I had been relying on a nice regular monthly payment to cover the mortgage and was rather unpleasantly surprised to find this wasn't the case.
  12. My kids are a bit younger and probably less adventurous than yours, but here is this week's menu. Tonight: slightly spicy tomato and red pepper rice pilaf with roast squash and broccoli Tomorrow: cauliflower and tomato mac cheese with smokey bacon Thursday: baked potatoes with smoked trout, prawns, avo, spring onion, mayo and lemon juice
  13. Here it is... Re: Teenager tried to steal my bike Posted by LordLaneship February 23, 07:18PM I have just had to call the police after catching two 12-13 yr olds (the boys were about 5ft max, white, slight build, and wearing hoodies) stealing a new Vespa on Ondine Road. I was weighed down with sainos bags but challenged them and they eventually ran off with the moped. If you live in the area, make sure you lock up/protect any bikes as best as you can.

  15. It was around 11.30pm/midnight. The police cordoned off a section of Forest Hill Rd and wouldn't let our dinner guests leave our house while they combed the front gardens and Cabrini grounds.
  16. Jimmyv -- you say you will rephrase the heading. Please do so, and put in something that indicates that the thread is about dog poo, because if I'd known that I wouldn't have wasted my time by opening it.
  17. Do you live on Forest Hill Rd Dbboy, or anywhere close to it?
  18. It might be worth looking at http://www.riverford.co.uk. The quality of the veg in their veg boxes is absolutely superb. I get all my veg from there so I can't say what their prices are like compared with other places, but they seem okay to me. It is also a very sound business in terms of its ethics.

  20. What? Wipe your bottom with The Sun? I tend to agree. Most uncomfortable.
  21. Here's an idea...
  22. Thank you for all the suggestions. I shall certainly try some of them.
  23. We lived there (near the top end) for 8 years. Loved it. Miss it.
  24. Does anyone know of someone with a special gift for getting cats to do things? My cats point blank refuse to push open the door of their cat flap with their heads. We tried all kinds of things to get them to do it, but have ended up removing the flap altogether. I can't face another winter of icy draughts in the scullery so really need some help. Any ideas?
